I finished this one last fall. The instructions are great. Read them. Then read them again. Then read them a third time and only then pick up the exacto knife. Also, any time you're waiting for glue to set, work on the oars. I waited until the end to start work on the oars, doubling the time it took to build it. 👍
Una caja que incluye el modelo, las herramientas y los materiales. Ya no hay excusas para no hacer un barco a escala. Excelente! Abrazo desde Montevideo, Uruguay
I would love to build this kit. I'm serious about wanting to learn this hobby. I've always been fascinated by Tall Ships and that age of sailing. There is a special beauty with these masterpieces of engineering and was the main reason why it was even made possible to explore the world in those days. "A tall ship and a star to sail her by" was a phrase that represented freedom.
These are fun to build. I agree that the painter lines are somehow oversized and look out of scale, but I just stole some smaller scale rope from another kit. I’m sure Model Shipways would have replaced it if I asked; they will replace any lost or broken part free of charge and no questions asked. Very good customer service. Beyond that these ‘simple’ kits are fun and satisfying. And friends and family are somehow amazed by the results. Such an easy audience!
Just came across your page! I started with this, then completed the rest of their “shipwright” series, a great primer. Been working for several months now on their Bluenose, up to sails and rigging now, which is how I found you. Can’t wait to finish and begin the next! Learning patience in the build is key.
That or the equivalent Midwest Kits models. My very first wooden ship model was Midwest's Dinghy 1/12 scale. It built up very similar to this model, pretty basic, and I was very pleased with the results. Second kit was Midwest's Chesapeake Bay Flattie 1/32 scale. Again very pleased with the results. It's really nice having these kinds of options for a beginner in this hobby, or something that goes together quickly for an experienced builder.
@olhabatchvarov, It’s definitely a good kit to learn with, but I found the mooring line to seem out of scale. I wouldn’t expect a dory to need a 2 inch thick rope. In hindsight, I could have unraveled the rope to its individual plies for more accurate scaling. I am amazed how well the oars turned out on mine. I got the whole shipwright series and am about to start on the Pram. It’s all to work up to Billings Bluenose II as a gift for a family member.
@@OlhaBatchvarov thanks. I have about 6 or 7 others in varying degrees of difficulty. I decided to learn a new hobby as I get closer to retirement: wooden models and rock climbing. Hard to tell sometimes which I spent more $$ on. Both can be quite addictive!

Результат перекладу At this level you can build anything! Maybe you have a favorite period or a specific scale in which you already have models? It is better to choose from this point of view. From my experience, even the same manufacturer can have kits of different quality! You will improve something in each, so why not do it on the model that interests you the most?..
@@OlhaBatchvarov Thanks for the really appreciated response, I admire you very much. Do you know the great Alexander Dobrenko? I was a friend of him, he loved my city Naples very much. as regards the kit, I am very undecided between the Amati Mercury brigantine or the Eskedra one. Then I also saw HMS Pegasus. I think for that price they are the best, then I don't know, I'll ask you who are very expert.

This is exactly the case! If you do not ignore the instructions and do not rush to glue everything as soon as possible - then everything will be fine!
Now that is the perfect kit to begin with. Good luck to those entering the raffle!
It really is! Thank you!
Good luck everyone

I just received the Seabright Dory Lifeboat. Haven't started it yet. I'm saving it for when I take a break in my current larger projects.

For a beginner kit the instructions are not very clear. The pictures are tiny and of bad quality. Good luck...
If you compare these instructions with others, you will understand that they simply do not exist in other kits)))
This is purely from my experience!
