  • Today, we will take you on tour inside the new Marine One. A helicopter is a crucial part of the Presidential transportation system and is the number one go-to when it comes to moving the president quickly in an urban area. For example, if the President has to go from the White House to the Airport it is much safer to take the helicopter instead of a car that can get stuck in traffic. Since the newest Helicopter is already quite old, the Sikorsky VH92 will soon join and replace the old Marine one.
Which Helicopter do you think is the best one?

Enjoyed the video!! Having been with HMX-1 and on presidential service during the Nixon, Ford, Reagan & Carter administrations, I've worked and traveled around the world with the VH-3D's. I didn't hear any mention of the VH-1N Huey's.....but they too were a very executive aircraft. I know Marine One is long over due for an upgrade.....but when they do, you can rest assured there will be no finer aircraft to travel on.... but will bring a sadness to me personally. A LOT of great memories with that squadron and I only wish I was young enough to do it all over again!!! (smile)

The Secret Service was concerned with safety in the 60's when putting the president in a helicopter but they put him in an open limousine with the top down driving through a southern city with tall buildings on both sides with people in open windows in the tall buildings. That's govt for you.

They warned him about it even in the 60s but he didn’t want the “Ivy league charlatans” standing on the back of the car. (Ahah btw they did look stupid I can totally see why if you look at pictures). But people back then didn’t have air conditioning so it was completely normal for windows to be open. Also they had this extreme innocents which was more like denial given they almost greased Truman outside Blair house in the 40s. So they had multiple things. But It’s no different than today. You have liberals target aborting black babies via planned parent hood. The dems even released a report in 2008 explain abortion 100% was for population control of the African American community. But yet liberals are all for killing all babies and nobody is saying anything. You have liberals starting race wars and causing self destruction in the black communities where people like myself non political have to go work night and day to reverse the damage and child abuse. But no one is saying anything. So what we are doing today is far worse and apparently you just over look it like it’s no problem just like they overlooked open windows because people didn’t have air conditioning back then so it was normalized. Just how target abortions have been normalized. - btw I’m not anti abortion. I’m just anti target abortion where liberals target based on skin color. The black population would be 130million if not for the target abortions but as of today the black population is 41 million. They’ve aborted 40-63 million. 40 hard confirmed but we’ve found another 15-20 million uncounted. Planned parent hood was started by a extreme racist. - but I’m just giving this example of how people can be so wrong and racist but yet everyone thinks it’s perfectly okay. In 50-100yrs people will be saying the same thing about us. “How could they? How could they wipe out people just because of skin color? How could they be so concerned about women’s rights but then turn around and target black females?” Just wait the crap they. Did in the 60s is child’s play compared to our crap. But you can see when something becomes normalized everyone ignores the truth and dangers.

A big reason for the delays in replacing the old VH-3Ds has been the desire for the next generation Presidential helicopter to replace not only the VH-3 but the VH-60 Whitehawk with one model.
The VH-3 cannot be flown on the C-5--much less the C-17--without major time-consuming disassembly and then re-assembly and flight testing at the destination. The VH-60 can and is flown on the C-5 and C-17 but its passenger capacity is much less than the VH-3.
So, what was wanted was a helicopter that had roughly the passenger capacity of the VH-3 but in a VH-60 package...and when this was combined with the ever-more-sophisticated communications systems required to support POTUS this became a nightmare for first Lockheed and then Sikorsky.

Voice track good, but video appalling and rarely matched the commentary - and in S92A cases the aircraft noise signature did not match the helicopter being shown at that point in time
Notable omission was that the Lockheed offering was dropped after the Navy changed the “requirement” so often, potentially propelled by politics. For example, the spec was changed to require TWO SAFES instead of one. The sheer weight of an individual safe and the criticality of “centre of gravity” on a helicopter shows how crazy this requirement was, even for just one safe.

in the UK we built two modern aircraft carriers for less than that and our ultra modern destroyers only cost 1 bill each.

Marine One is the call sign used whenever the President is onboard any aircraft operated by the Marine Corps. If he was on a helicopter operated by the Navy it would have the call sign Navy One. If he was on an aircraft operated by the army it would be Army One, so on and so forth. The call sign is not Marine One just because he’s on a helicopter and Air Force One just because he’s on an airplane. It depends on what branch operates the aircraft.

Along with their 27 H92 based Cyclones, which took forever to be accepted, the Canadian Armed Forces actually picked up all the failed lockheed VH-71 examples too for a song so they could supplement their fleet of EH-101 based Rescue Cormorants. The Canadian Navy has already lost one H92 bird at sea on shipboard deployment due to a deadly avionic software programming error that still isn't completely solved by Sikorsky. Happy trails Mr. President.

In 1992, Prince Charles played polo at the polo grounds in Vero Beach, Florida. I was a flight instructor at Flight Safety at the time, and since the center manager was Peter Banfield, a former British Royal Air Force pilot, he briefed all of us what we should do if we encountered the Prince or Diana or the brat kid William and the non-brat Harry. Basically, we were not required but we should nod head or "curtsey" to the Royal personage. All of us were adult professionals and if Prince Charles had walked into the Academy most all of us would have shaken his hand...But I bet that the only person "curtseying" to "his majesty" would have been Peter Banfield.
What brings this up is that while Prince Charles was playing polo in Vero Beach, there was a US Army Blackhawk helicopter parked on the field ready to go and there were police EVERYWHERE on A1A near the polo grounds-

The aircraft seen at the Reagan Library is not a VH-3D. The aft air stair door is located on the right side, unlike the the VH-3D which has both air stair doors located on the left side of the aircraft.

Totally misleading video thumbnail. Don’t waste your time watching because it doesn’t show you inside ANY new marine one.

Try editing the video to reflect the item you are speaking about. Stop cutting through shots of 5 different helicopter models in a single sentence.

Marine One refers to ANY Marine Corps aircraft that transports the president. Airforce One is any Airforce aircraft, and so on.

This video is about as messed-up as the presidential helicopter replacement program itself! At least 3 relatively contemporary versions of the aircraft are depicted, interchangeably, and the narration frequently doesn't match the view. The copy is, to be charitable, rambling. And it incorrectly explains the significance of the call sign "Marine One." But it did kill ten minutes...
