this was so rtragic, Pelle was having one of his Best years when he died and also could have been one of the best goalies in which the flyers could have won the Stanley Cup in 1986 and maybe even 1987
Pelle was surrounded by a great team. It was very sad to learn that he was gone. Those of us that walked down Broad Street had very high hopes for those years.
This guy was crazy good, he would have been there goalie for the next 10 years, Ron hextall would have played on a different team, trust me. I am not saying that Hextall would not be good, but they would have kept Pelle over him. This is the Len Bias of hockey, the only difference is that at least most people got a chance to see him play professionally. Both stories are so sad.
Interesting to hear someone who has been there and I'm glad you met him and that he was a nice guy. I was only around 9-10 at that time. There is something I call "kult" about Pelle, maybe because he died so young and at just the start of his success, R.I.P. indeed.
I remember when Pelle died, but I was only 10 years old when it hapened. The news reports had me believing that he was plastered. Two beers, a shot of pepperming schnapps, and whatever mixed drink he had, isn't enough to get the guy hammered to the point where he can't drive. I'm move inclined to believe that he was driving a little fast and just didn't see the wall. But either way, and I'm not a Flyers fan, in fact, I hate the team, it bothers me that we were led to believe that he was drunk.
For a man Pelle's size, these investigators and teammates are covering up for him. A man that weighs 200 pounds can burn off 3/4 of a drink each hour. Pelle had probably been drinking for several hours. He had a BAC of 0.24, which is three times the limit currently. With each drink of booze, a 200 pound man's BAC goes up 0.01. That means that Pelle would have had to drink around 30 drinks. That much more than just drunk. That's even worse than blackout drunk. That's near passing out, uncoordinated drunk.
Don't drink and drive. Period. However his hockey skills meant a lot to a lot of people. I feel for his passengers on that particilar night. On many other nights he was the pride of his team. Are we entitlled to miss him or celebrate him though his flaws? I hope we are.
nice, they show a great amount of respect for Pelle. It probably will be retired in the future if no one has had it since. I wish the best for Philadelphia, they have a fast and fun team in NHL09 at least(sorry, I haven't seen them on TV much, being in Sweden and all)
Listen again. He said that there were no indications that Pelle was intoxicated....at Bennigan’s. That was the first of two bats he stopped at. He’d had two beers and a peppermint schnapp there. At the second bar, he had at least one more beer, and a B-52 shot (vodka and Kahlua). That’s what one of the waitresses remembers.
that was a very sad day in Philadelphia history and also if he was alive the flyers could have won another stanely cup and had a chance to be one of our greatest goalies
said his BAL was twice the legal limit and driving intoxicated cost him his life, how sad, he was so great, I watched him play, what a tragic loss. My little brother was killed on the same day 11 nov, in 2005 by a drunk drver. we were huge red wing fans. I feel for pelles family, first hand I know the pain, it never goes away> RIP Pelle . good luck flyers and my best to all you philly fans.Red wings 2009? flyers/wings finals :)
@konicki , WRONG. Barry Ashby's number was retired because he was still close to the team and he had leukemia. Ashby wasnt "retired number material" though he was average to above average. PETE ROSE ? Look at what he did off the field. BARRY BONDS ??
Well, his lawyer says one thing, and the facts say something else. So I can only assume that Wikipedia is presenting facts in that his blood:alcohol was .24%, which would make you absolutely right, and I stand corrected.
@konicki , so in your world Jim Leyritz of the Yankees, a certified World Series hero, who mowed down a woman and killed her, should still be a World Series hero because he was a hero on the field. Am i reading you correctly ?
@k3304 actually, I think Pete Rose should (and eventually will) be in the Hall. What he did off the field in no way takes away from what he did on the field. And like I said if Ty Cobb and Ruth are in then why not Rose? Barry Bonds cheated at baseball, which should certainly disqualify him, so I'm not really sure how you're comparing that to drunk driving. As for Ashbee, yes he was a victim of tragedy, he also was an All Star, won a Cup and carried a +52 plus minus in 74 -- hardly average.
You can't place the blame solely on the woman. She was frightened. If you want to blame anything blame the alcohol. That affects a person's thinking ability. Lindbergh was going 100 MPH in 25- MPH zone. Plus he had drank twice the legal limit. If Lindbergh was sober and was driving at a safe speed this probably wouldn't have happened. So who do you think is really at fault?
Thank goodness he didn't kill anyone else. If people want to drink and drive, I'm cool with them taking themselves out in the process, just leave everyone else alone.
@k3304 Yup. Athletics are not dictators of morals. He is a World Series hero. He's also an asshole. But that doesn't have anything to do with the World Series.
I hate the Flyers, but hockey lost a great player in Pelle Lindbergh. It's a shame anytime somebody's life is cut short, especially with such a promising future.
@justice008a - Just so you don't make yourself look stupid again; (Following researched from both wikipedia, and the Philadelphia Flyers official NHL website.) "Although his number 31 was never officially retired by the Flyers, no Flyer has worn the number 31 since Lindbergh's death."
Bob Frose had a good season after pelle died but 86 nobody could score on mtl and by 87 and 88 those flyers teams were good but the oilers were just that much better
We get it. Don't drink and drive. Well, then why do bars have parking lots? No bars should have parking lots. They're just begging you to drink and drive.
The parking lots are there for people that work at the bar, designated drivers, so on. The presence of parking lots doesn't mean someone should drink and drive, it's no excuse come on. 😂
he was driving with two other people, a girl sat on the passengers lap that was with him and the lady was pissed at his impaired driving so while they were driving by that school he crashed at she reached over and turned off the ignition freezing the car pretty much and the rest you know
Replying to an 8 year old comment, but this is impossible as you describe. Ignition key in a 911 is to the left of the steering wheel next to the door. BS comment is BS.
what if he had killed someone... while he was driving? let say it was youre daughter or youre son.. how had you reacted? drugs and alcohol does not make any sense in traffic! just saying!
LOL. This is such an old video. I read a few of the comments. No one is mentioning that his blood alcohol level was almost 2 and a half times the legal limit? The only good thing about that, was he was the only one to die in the crash. He didn't kill anyone else. I have no sympathy.
this was so rtragic, Pelle was having one of his Best years when he died and also could have been one of the best goalies in which the flyers could have won the Stanley Cup in 1986 and maybe even 1987
he left too soon..he was the one who inspired me to be an goalie, and an proud swede
Pelle was surrounded by a great team. It was very sad to learn that he was gone. Those of us that walked down Broad Street had very high hopes for those years.
RIP Pelle. Can't believe my Flyers have never retired #31.
Brad Marsh with the old man glasses just like Scott Stevens 🤣

This is the Len Bias of hockey, the only difference is that at least most people got a chance to see him play professionally. Both stories are so sad.
Why he dindnt hire a taxi driver or somebody to drive his car. He was a great athlete and his girlfriend is very cute, beautiful. Rest in Peace

"led to believe he was drunk?"...by the fact he was drinking? by the fact his autopsy revealed he was TWICE the legal limit?
For a man Pelle's size, these investigators and teammates are covering up for him. A man that weighs 200 pounds can burn off 3/4 of a drink each hour. 25 years to the day
Back when goalies actually relied on skill , not huge equipment. I was an Oiler fan , but he was one of my favorites , big loss for hockey in general.
yep before padzillas ruled supreme
Don't drink and drive. Period. However his hockey skills meant a lot to a lot of people. I feel for his passengers on that particilar night. On many other nights he was the pride of his team. Are we entitlled to miss him or celebrate him though his flaws? I hope we are.
I miss oldschool hockey. The new NHL seems so incredibly tame.
That said, why was Lindbergh even allowed to drive?
If Pelle would have played for Sweden in Canada Cup 1987 there would be 3 games against Sweden, not CCCP! The greatest!!
To quote Joe McGrath from Slapshot with the name of course changed..."Poor Pelle...he had a future...I told him to watch that drunk driving!"
rip pelle
great goalie great person
people think that money and wealth are the ticket to hapiness so sad
That is the roumor I always heard too.

Yeah, but nobody has ever worn that number since. Respect.
TWO beers, and a liquer called Peppermint Schnapps.
lol she sounds all serious like he just killed a dozen beers.
Peppermint Schnapps?
R.I.P what a great guy.

Tragic is if it was out of your control. He was impaired. Who stays out til 530 am
"Drive a Poreche Potvin," Ranger fans at MSG.

that is the truth, we could have won the stanely cup in 1986 if hwe was still alive and also 1987
I hate the Flyers, but hockey lost a great player in Pelle Lindbergh. It's a shame anytime somebody's life is cut short, especially with such a promising future.
Did Rangers fans really do that? Wow. If they did, that has to go down as the all time classless fan move of all time!
@drewboy2 you're right i just looked it up, she has to be lying or some shit, this is bizarre, its all a fuck up, totallly unfortunate
I would have bought a $50,000 limo and paid a driver $50,000 a year.

I think it's a bit gay to start debating how much he'd had to drink. Don't drink and drive at all.
RIP Pelle, du var bäst!
Oh yeah, just a few beers, not drunk at all. BAC 2x the limit.
He would have been one of the best
@konicki , The Flyers never retired his number because he was a certified drunk driver
What a shame, rest in peace.

Try telling this to justice008a
Yeah this guy must have been distracted

Beautiful wife
what if he had killed someone... while he was driving?
let say it was youre daughter or youre son.. how had you reacted?
drugs and alcohol does not make any sense in traffic!

fuck off
In Europe , it’s zero alcohol in the blood

What do Pink Floyd and Pelle Lindbergh have in common......their biggest hit was "The Wall".
this red porsche is one hell of an ugly car
Good thing he killed himself and not an innocent person......typical Flyer.
SuperThunderlips You are kinda an ass.
