  • Welcome to Joint Base Andrews, home to the 316th Wing of the United States Air Force. My cousin is a huey pilot and graciously ushered us through all the security hoops necessary to get us on this base. It was the tour of a lifetime.
After trying out the rad gear in the suiting-up room we headed to the helicopter simulator, where we get to experience a few hours of what it's like to fly a helicopter in restricted airspace. We flew all over Washington DC, including the White House, the Capitol Building, and the National Mall.
We also got to tour a Huey helicopter, which is a Vietnam-era helicopter that is still in use today. Our kids had a blast crawling all over the helicopter and learning about its history.
This video is a great way to experience the excitement of flying a helicopter without ever leaving the ground. Many thanks to Joint Base Andrews, the 316th which helps secure the capital, and my rock star cousin.
