C'mon Barak you're just an opportunist, and you're not even touching on the real root of the problems. No doubt the current Israeli parliament is very problematic... but seriously suggesting that the supreme court should act as a kind of a "live constitution" that is able to stand guard against all and every type of poor parliament decisions is just a bad idea. Judges are people and not all people are the same. What's really lacking in Israel is a written constitution, that can only come about once parliament recognizes its duty to create one. The reason I don't respect Barak's stance here is that when him and his party were in power they never made any serious attempt to do this. Not only that, but few people know that the first elections in Israel, in 1949 was not for a parliament, but rather for a constituent assembly that had the job of creating Israel's constitution. Ben Gurion which is the political ancestor of Barak (Israeli Labor party) won this election but quickly chose to literally make a coup and shortly after the mentioned elections, announced that this assembly is now the official parliament, giving his party of course the leadership and power to do whatever they like without being bound by a constitution... So please, first admit and recognize your own "original sins" and the fact that you never really tried to rectify them, when you had the chance. What we need is to start thinking of ways to fix the issues from the bottom up.
Here you see one of the many examples of hatred and fear amongst our people, this user, publicly states that he wants the interviewee hang on a long tree, akin to the way Haman, a certain antisemite from the Jewish culture, was. He is doing so because in his mind, by saying all these things, the imterviewee is committing a dangerois act of treason, that could potentially lead to Israel falling into chaos and demise. This thought, which has no basis in reality, has been enforced by the Israeli politicians so much that it's hard to not at least picture at thus point. The immidiate response is what you'd dread it'd be, other Israelis from Barack's side of the political map accuse him of repeating a right-wing talking point and proving that violence instansiates completely within the right
This is untrue. These protests are not about him or any other politician. They are about the Israeli people defending against their country sliding into a less democratic regime. Barak gains no more political advantage than anyone else from them.
Guy, stop with the propaganda -- Israel doesn't even use capital punishment. You have untold Palestinian Arab trrsts whiling away the hour watching TV and talking on their smuggled phones all day.
The country is falling apart due to their inability to communicate with each other, millions of doctors and hi-tech people fled, the millitary is refusing to cooperate, economists are warning of a demise, and everyone thinks they're the victim and the other side is to blame... In Israel, apartheid is a form of racial discrimination. Inequality of laws based on religion or nationality in a country may be called discrimination. Discrimination is the violation of the rights and freedoms of a person or group of people on the basis of their membership of a particular social, ethnic, religious or other group. Discrimination can take many forms, such as segregation, apartheid, genocide, racism, and racism,,..,,,.
NO APARTHEID There are 10 Arab members in the Israeli parliament. Arab, Samer Haj Yehia, is chairman of Israel's largest bank, Leumi. Arab, Dr Masad Barhoum, is Director-General of Israel's Galilee Medical Center. Arab, George Karra, served as a judge on the Supreme Court of Israel until his retirement in 2022. (as of 2023) The Arab party, Ra'am, was part of the Israeli government under PM Bennett from 2021-2022. It would interest you to know that three Arabs served in the first Israeli Knesset in 1949. They are, Tawfik Toubi; Seif-El-Din El-Zubi; Amin-Salim Jarjora. (From Wikipedia: List of members of the first Knesset. Arabs and Jews go to the same beaches; are patients at the same hospitals where they're attended to by both Arab and Jewish doctors.
The Israelis protests about the democracy but it was the IDF who provided the Jewish nation that democracy from the wars fought against the Arab and Muslim nations throughout the decades. It is also the IDF that protects that democracy from current threats in the middle east from Iran to their proxies in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza. Therefore, having that judicial overhaul strengthens the Jewish state's democracy since the Supreme Court and other branches of government are incapable of eliminating those threats.
The IDF doesn't defend democracy. It defends the existence of Israel, but it's up to the people of Israel and its government branches, including the supreme court, to keep it a democracy.
Complete nonsense. The IDF, the Israeli Defense forces, is our military, it provides us with security, as militaries do across the world. It does not provide us with Democracy since keeping Democracy is not a task for a military. The Israeli Democracy is based on free elections, separation of powers, human rights and rule of law, all aided and supported by (among others) an independent judiciary. Moreover, since Israel is engaged for more than 50 years in a bloody war against terror organizations and civil Palestinian population, heavily criticized by the international community, every Israel soldier is willing to participate in the fighting, knowing that there is a robust and respected Israeli legal system scrutinizing the government's actions and decisions, so he or she is not taking part in war crimes. Furthermore, the Israeli political drama in the last decade is due to the supreme court unwilling to turn a blind eye on the legislation to draft only secular Jews, with ultra-orthodox boys exempt from the 3 years-long, mandatory, risky, un-paid military service. It deemed such legislation as unfair and unequal. One of the motivations of the reform is to overrule the court decision and provide full exemption, turning the secular Jews to the slaves of the hawkish ultra-orthodox (they are very eager for Israel to fight the Arabs, as long as they are not the one who send their children to the IDF). It is clear that should the ultra-orthodox will succeed most of the Seculars will revolt and will be unwilling to draft to the IDF, similar to many volunteering reservist who already stop showing up for duty. This threat is already clearly stated by the current Chief-of staff who demanded a universal draft, with no exemption to ultra-orthodox. The Current Minister of Defense, Galant, stated that the reform is a grave risk to Israeli defense, and subsequently was fired by Bibi, only to be reinstate after a mass demonstration against the move. Barak himself is the most decorated soldier in the IDF, former chief of staff, Defence minister and PM. His words are true. Conversely, Most of the ministers of Bibi’s cabinet did not even serve in the IDF, many due to false statements, and some due to rich criminal background (Ben-Gvir). Bibi will go down in history as the worst “leader” of Israel, and no decent person should support such evil man.
@@gilkujawski7023 Throughout the millennia, it has been Traditional Judaism that has kept the people alive. Secularism is another variety of Hellenism.
This is a very weird interpretation of history. The Jews were subject to the most horrifying exterminations. I truly don’t see how one can honestly say the Jews were “kept alive” by anything. The minority that did survived was able to do so due to Christian and Muslim theology, that used the Jews as useful scapegoats- they did not care about the Jewish “traditions” (whatever they are). Judaism is highly influenced by Hellenic ideas (Maimonides philosophy, which is the center of Jewish theology in the last millennium, follows Aristotle to the letter). The old (false) dichotomy between Judaism to Hellenism refers to time prior to the destruction of the temple i.e. when the religion revolved around sacrifice of animals, and has nothing to do with the Talmud that was written and canonized centuries later - assuming you refer to the “tradition” of Ultra-Orthodox to “study the Talmud” instead of enlisting to the IDF. FYI: The “tradition” of not enlisting to the IDF due to being an Ultra-orthodox started in the 1970s. The Secularization of the Jews (Haskala) was a movement that followed the European trend of the 17-18th centuries. One counter-reaction to this movement was the Ultra-Orthodoxy that was formed in the beginning of the 19th century, taking its version of Judaism to a very unique route (e.g. the “tradition” to wear outfits of old Polish nobility as a type of uniform. Do you think it is compatible with the dress code of the Maccabees who fought the Greeks?). The state of Israel, which is the issue at hand, is the product of Zionism, a secular national movement championed by secular Jews in the end of the 19 century Europe based on the secular ideas (nationalism) of that time. Due to certain religious interpretations, most religious Jews were against Zionism. The ultra-orthodox (up to this day) are not Zionist. They actively opposed the establishment of the state. It’s ridiculous to regard ultra-orthodoxy as representing some historical authentic Judaism. Furthermore, considering their ongoing opposition to the state and Zionism, it's crazy to take their ideas as an inspiration to the way the country should be governed, and see them as something that ensure our future. @@cosimodirondo972
