This is by far my favorite video on this channel. It's just so heartwarming to see the little bug break out of his shell and become a big and confident moth.
I was expecting the “It got the worst diss-honner a fully evolved Pokémon...” speech for this episode. I can safely say that I was pleasantly surprised!
I like his story it's like the opposite of tauros, he learned how to escape the bottom tiers and slowly become a good pokemon, without a mega or a special trearment The true dragon slayer awaked
and, Blastoise (who just got Shell Smash), Clefable, Nidoking, and to an lesser extent Nidoqueen. Now if only Electivire has Bulk Up, Volt Tackle, Close Combat, Power Whip, Mach Punch, Drain Punch, Sucker Punch, Knock Off and the abilities Iron Fist and Electric Surge, whiling it's counterpart Magmortar has Earth Power, Dark Pulse, Aura Sphere and the abilities Mega Launcher and Sheer Force if only man :(
Venomoth is such an underdog story. From absolutely useless to a terrifying sweeper capable of going up against some of the games biggest powerhouses. All hail venomothra
Venomoth was being held back by the lack of good stabs, the absence of the physical and special split and a set up move. Once it got those, it truly shined.
It's so weird because its stats aren't that great. 90 speed and spa is alright, but not stellar and the rest of his stats are really meh. Crazy how good it got with those stats.
Back in days like gen4 as example. 90spe is good. Nowadays 100 is ok and +100 good. For me i am a 'think out of the box - guy' i dont wanna say i hate meta but k hate people who stick with that and judge all pokemons/heroes/units etc by their stats. FSG said it, it had his niche. And some meta-driven player understimate this small niche, or just oversee that cause meta exist duh Basically all lowladder Uber players
Instead of one massive boost like a Mega Evolution, Venomoth just happened to quietly improve over time. Baton Pass, Tinted Lens, and Quiver Dance. Truly a "substance over style" Pokémon.
Wow, this is one of the coolest and most eye-opening videos in all the years of this channel. Venomoth is a true success story in terms of buffing over the years, with no heavy-handed stuff like a mega evolution or insane stat changes. Just a trickle of new abilities and moves to power it up!
Wow. I gotta be honest, Venomoth is one of those mons I never really cared about, but seeing it go from chump to champ like this....like the man said; it's just heart warming. It's a true underdog story sadly most pokemon don't get and I honestly appreciate it a lot more now.
Somehow, Venomoth is my favorite 1st gen Bug-type, surpassing even Scyther and Pinsir. Until now, it's still one of my favorite Bug-types, alongside Heracross, Scizor, Durant and Yanmega.
Even if the quarantine ends, I was told that it doesn't mean the virus ended, so peeps will just keep getting infected and there will be another quarantine. @@venusrose9890 Outclassed. As the generations went on, it's failures in gen 1 were felt, holding it back. If only it received more attention right off the bat when it really mattered, maybe it would have gotten an evolution in gen 4 :/
Gen 6's power creep was so extreme that *Metagross* became UU (without its mega, obviously). And yet, Venomoth managed to hold on to its niche. Also, after a Quiver Dance, Venomoth would actually threaten Metagross, *despite being weak to it* In gen 7, Venomoth was faced with the hardest task for any special sweeper: handling Blissey. Something that not even Kyogre could do properly. *And it managed to succeed.* Do *not* underestimate this little moth.
And here's the best part: In BDSP, it's a legitimate thing in OU. This is what all the lasting buffs and general additions after Gen 4 managed to accomplish.
Easily one of my favorite vids on the channel. It's just such a wild ride, watching it absolutely invert the usual "powercrept into obscurity" trend, especially for a gen 1 Bug mon; and not only did it find a niche in the first place, it managed to slowly and quietly turn itself into an utter TERROR in the mid-tier meta. Beautiful.
Venomoths impact on the meta from gen 4 onwards starts at 4:37, leaving 13 minutes of video left to watch; which is longer than the luxray video. Tfw venomoth was more competitively viable than luxray. Unfortunate does not begin to describe.....
I think its worth mentioning that Venomoth was actually something quite interesting and unique back in gen 1 Nintendo cup 1997! Poison types are significantly better in that format since Double team was allowed and Toxic was a common way of dealing with it, Poison types useing Double team couldn't be handled by that method! In addition Having Sleep power and stun Spore at 90 speed is actually a lot better then some of you might think, in Nintendo Cup level 50 Jynx was the best most common pokemon used, and it was usually a lead for its ability to pur something to sleep and then freeze something else with 30% Blizzards all the while taking those opportunities to set up Double team, Since Nintendo cup was bring 6 pick 3 those qualities made Jynx incredibly dangerous! However if you Run venomoth at level 53 it outspeeds Jynx and can put to sleep before Jynx can use Lovely Kiss! Then it can set up its own Double teams and paralyze something else on the switch. Nothing else that beats Jynx has a paralyzing move! (Besides body slam) and finally since Venomoth doesn't hit too hard it actually makes use of an attack that you wouldn't expect. Psywave! When used several times due to the free turns given by Double team and sleep powder in average it does some pretty alright damage output for a Venomoth! replay.pokemonshowdown.com/rby-gen1nintendocup97-1525 This is not my battle but it's a good example how someone useing Venomoth to moderate success!
I still love Venomoth to this day. Been playing NatdexUU and I have this absolute weapon sweeping if things go right. Slap it up with Buginium Z. Have your sleep powder, quiver dance then Bug buzz and giga drain. Youre all set. Doesnt work 100% of the time solely because of Sleep powders accuracy, but its fairly consistent. People dont really seem to remember tinted lens when they send in their fire or steel type that get absolutely demolished thanks to tinted lens. If they ARE a bulky mon like Mega Steelix or Mega Aggron, you have that buginium Z to one shot. The only thing to be afraid of at full health is choice banded aqua jet from crawdaunt/ choicebanded bullet punch from scizor or something waking up in the middle of quiver dancing to one shot with a physical attack. You live and die by the sleep and its possible to go substitute like FSG said, but giga drains just so nice with the overabundance of seismitoads/swamperts around. Sap Sipper users like Goodra can be seen here and there, but are generally uncommon and you should have a team mate to hopefully help with that.
@@陳嘉宇-y4q As a poison type, you don't need to be in a trash can. You ARE a trash can or something along those lines more often than not (wink wink pollution trio (Weezing, Muk, Garbodor)).
I actually love Venomoth! I was a bit sad to see how bad it was in the first three gens, but that success story with Gen 4 getting the ball rolling is really heartwarming. When most Pokemon, especially ones from RBY, have a exponential downward slope in viability, seeing Venomoth jump back up from the brink of Ledian tier is so awesome!
to be fair, the only reason it was NU at that time was because it wasn't yet discovered that it is actually good in RU. Might also have something to do with meta shifts, dunno but well, thats how a developing meta sometimes does strange things
After all the videos detailing the saddening and heartbreaking declines of many Generation I Pokemon, it feels so damn good to see one that has actually managed to dig its way out of that hole to become great. And a Bug/Posion-Type at that.
How to make Venomoth OU? Raise it's SpA to 100 or even 110. TBH it's already got most other things down. A decent ability, good STAB options, base 90 speed is nothing to scoff at. It just needs more power. Clefable became a total god in Gen 6 with only a 10 point boost in it's SpA and changing it's type to mono Fairy.
Actually, I think it'd be really cool if u do a How good was "Quiver Dance", showing the best Quiver dancers by every region, match-ups and what elses. Imo there such a hype on that :P
It seems Poison types usually get better over time, which isn't surprising given how utterly useless the type is before Gen 6, and how amazing the new type it counters is. Good for you little moth, you finally found your porch light in competitive play.
Aaaa the little bug that could, indeed. I used to love it when I was little just because it looked pretty and learned psychic (I had no idea what I was doing). Now it's all grown up with quiver dance (and I still have no idea what I'm doing / play casually but your videos are super interesting). I love it!
A pokemon that rose significantly in the competitive scene without a mega!? I'll be damned. To quote Lupe Fiasco, "He came back in the same suit that he was buried in." Well played, Venemoth.
One of my favorite episodes for sure. I loved seeing what used to be one of the worst Pokemon in the game skyrocket to legitimate viability, and without even needing a Mega!
Probably one of the best glow-ups in Pokémon. It gained so much utility and power all while playing to the mon's base stats and typing in a unique and interesting way.
I'm so happy for my boy Venomoth, it's so cool when pokémon that started bad get better with the new generations. I've been asking for this video for ages, I love this moth so much. Thanks!

Why not Landorus?

Crawdaunt: *gives a thumbs up*
@Clove Conway It probably breaks off a claw, holds it upside down, then grows a new one. XD
@Clove Conway *THUMBS UP IN LOBSTER*
UU is very ban-happy tho, to the point UUBL sometimes approaches the size of an actual tier.
@@Eriorguez Ugh, IKR? It's so annoying.
UU has a very specific metagame in mind, which is absolutely cancerous. Hell, look at gen 3 UUBL, which is BIGGER THAN UU OR OU
Milotic/Metagross/Mega Blastoise: RU in gen7.
Venomoth: RUBL
I guess power creep and moves really can make or break a pokemon
If Blastoise had gotten Shell Smash in gen 5 he would probably have been an OU staple. So one move can indeed make all the difference.
Now thats ironic......I like it.
@@zxb995511 Thing is, in Showdown, where Blastoise could Mega evolve and use Shell Smash, it was instantly banned, so if it got Shell Smash in gen 7, Mega Blastoise would be banned at once.
Mega Blastoise of all things was banned in National Dex. y'know, the same place where Galarian Darmanitan, Dracovish, Melmetal and Metagross-Mega are all running wild.

THEY are realy deserved a mega (and most of them also look pretty decent unlike Salamence who is a freaking flying Croisant now!)

yes

Wonderful
Looks like Venomoth bounced back after it's disastrous first 2 generations.
This might be the only Gen 1 Pokémon that has been consistently doing better and better since it’s debut... most others fall through the tiers or stagnate in a tier
Clefable with Magic Guard, Unaware and Fairy type, as well as 10+ in Sp. Atk
Nidos (more so Nidoking) with Sheer Force, which that ability combined with Life Orb does a lot of damage without the LO recoil, even with only 85 sp. atk

Nowadays

Instead of one massive boost like a Mega Evolution, Venomoth just happened to quietly improve over time. Baton Pass, Tinted Lens, and Quiver Dance. Truly a "substance over style" Pokémon.
Watching Venemoth 1 shot Metagross at 12:18 is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen 😢
Wow, this is one of the coolest and most eye-opening videos in all the years of this channel. Venomoth is a true success story in terms of buffing over the years, with no heavy-handed stuff like a mega evolution or insane stat changes. Just a trickle of new abilities and moves to power it up!
I can already imagine Gen9 Venomoth abusing Quiver Dance + Tinted Lens with Tera Blast.
Wow. I gotta be honest, Venomoth is one of those mons I never really cared about, but seeing it go from chump to champ like this....like the man said; it's just heart warming. It's a true underdog story sadly most pokemon don't get and I honestly appreciate it a lot more now.
I am honestly surprised from this video. Way to go Venomoth.
Somehow, Venomoth is my favorite 1st gen Bug-type, surpassing even Scyther and Pinsir. Until now, it's still one of my favorite Bug-types, alongside Heracross, Scizor, Durant and Yanmega.
Remember back in Gen. 1 when people say Bug types are the worst types of the series? Boy. Look how long they go.
And this proves that Bug types can be good and not always be the weaker ones.
More like "How good were Quiver Dance and Z moves actually?"
No, that was Volcarona
And Baton Pass and Tinted Lense and Sleep Powder and Toxic Spikes. No other Pokemon can do all of those things.

Gen 6's power creep was so extreme that *Metagross* became UU (without its mega, obviously). And yet, Venomoth managed to hold on to its niche. Also, after a Quiver Dance, Venomoth would actually threaten Metagross, *despite being weak to it*
In gen 7, Venomoth was faced with the hardest task for any special sweeper: handling Blissey. Something that not even Kyogre could do properly. *And it managed to succeed.* Do *not* underestimate this little moth.
And here's the best part: In BDSP, it's a legitimate thing in OU. This is what all the lasting buffs and general additions after Gen 4 managed to accomplish.
Venomoth: They danced at my misfortune...
Venomoth: Now I dance on their graves.

Easily one of my favorite vids on the channel. Venomoth > Luxray
Staraptor set a high standard that Luxray and Bibarel had no hope of reaching.

The way you described Venomoth's rise was genuinely heartwarming.

From one being shunned by everyone to being a God among pokemon.
Smogon council: We ban you from UU but we do not grant you a rank above NU.
Venomoth: How can you do this? This is outrageous, it's unfair!!
to be fair, the only reason it was NU at that time was because it wasn't yet discovered that it is actually good in RU.
Banned from a tier you weren't even in. That's an accomplishment no matter how you look at it.

Actually, I think it'd be really cool if u do a How good was "Quiver Dance", showing the best Quiver dancers by every region, match-ups and what elses. Imo there such a hype on that :P
At least Venomoth got an indirect buff in Heavy Duty Boots
Lel nah
Exactly what i was thinking. Hopefully it comes back in dlc!
How does a moth wear boots?
@@shirshanyaroy287 The same way Reuniclus would wear boots
It's more of a nerf to lose Buginium Z.
To see that it now is better then some of the Pokemon that beat it in Gen 1, and how they ended up...
Great Video btw!
It seems Poison types usually get better over time, which isn't surprising given how utterly useless the type is before Gen 6, and how amazing the new type it counters is. Good for you little moth, you finally found your porch light in competitive play.
This was such an uplifting episode
Most heartwarming episode. It's nice to see this bug comes this far
I Honestly Thought Venomoth Was The Coolest Pokémon When I Was A Kid!! It Had A Great Sound And Everything
I'm assuming the capitalization of every word implies this is going to be the most interesting biography ever written
Thanks For Your Assumption
Is Beedrill but better except when Beedrill mega evolves
Is Beedrill What????
In generation 13, there will need to be a tier above AG just for venomoth
Aaaa the little bug that could, indeed. I used to love it when I was little just because it looked pretty and learned psychic (I had no idea what I was doing). Now it's all grown up with quiver dance (and I still have no idea what I'm doing / play casually but your videos are super interesting). I love it!
Chuggaacconroy: Even though it clearly flies, it can still be hit by ground types.
Nihilego and Eternatus. :/
Peterson Byrd and Naganadel
Volcarona too. Even Magnezone and Chandelure for pete’s sake
Lel, eternatus sucks
Marowak after attempting several times to fling a bone through the air at an airborne target, but somehow always missing: Hey, I got one!!
Glad to see my Venomoth made it this far. It's my favorite Bug type Pokemon of all time.
Crawdnaut and venomoth, two pokemon with meh stats but an amazing ability turning them into a uu destroyer
I love mons with a story of becoming better and better with each generation
A pokemon that rose significantly in the competitive scene without a mega!? I'll be damned. To quote Lupe Fiasco, "He came back in the same suit that he was buried in." Well played, Venemoth.
bugs before gen 5: something sneezed at me and I'm dead now
bugs after gen 5: I am become death, destroyer of worlds
One of my favorite episodes for sure. I loved seeing what used to be one of the worst Pokemon in the game skyrocket to legitimate viability, and without even needing a Mega!
Probably one of the best glow-ups in Pokémon. It gained so much utility and power all while playing to the mon's base stats and typing in a unique and interesting way.
what did we learn today kids?
Butterflies suck, Moths are terrifying
I'm so happy for my boy Venomoth, it's so cool when pokémon that started bad get better with the new generations.
I've been asking for this video for ages, I love this moth so much. Thanks!
Amazing enough to make a grown man cry
this makes me happy since venomoth was a gen 1 favorite of mine.
0:48 *Names my Venomoth "Victreebel" *
