Many aircraft came to grief in Derbyshire during the war, mistakes, primitive navigation equipment, poor weather and the high ground were usually responsible. The high land around Bleaklow and Kinderscout claimed most, mainly British but some American too, very very sad, most have been forgotten with no memorial so its really nice to see that a small hamlet like Middleton went to the trouble, they should not be forgotten.
Thank you for your comment. It’s good that the village did have this memorial erected in memory of these young men.
I just can across your channel by chance! That was utterly delightful! thank you! I had an uncle on his first flight was killed I on his first bombing run in a Wellington during WWII. Its sad when you her of guys loosing there lives back then! May they R.I.P

@@rolandstravels I had an other uncle that flew in the same plane and survived and used to come with us on boating holidays! Sadly! Cancer got him and it was not smoking! I do not want to say where he got it ok!
@@nigeldewallens1115 interesting 🤔
Know the village and enjoyed the video very much. There was a castle or as better described fortified manor house. It saw some minor action during the English Civil war on the side of the Royalists.
Thank you. Yes, I read about the fortified manor house in my research. There's plenty of history to this little village.
Great video totally enjoyed-I have shared on my FB history group 👍
Thank you, James. I hope you’re doing well.
