  • Here's a walkthrough of coiling the USB cable and TRRS cable of an ErgoDox EZ mechanical keyboard. Transform a bundle of ugly wires into an elegant coil using a hairdryer or heatgun.
You can likely just use electrical tape but to be safe the heat resistant stuff I used was this: www.amazon.co....

Thanks for sharing. Exactly what I wanted to do. Your audio seems to be very low by the way. Had to turn my volume way up.

Yes, sorry about the audio. It was my first video in about 8 years and I messed up the input level!

good video again! as someone else said, your volume was really low in this video, though your other ones sounded fine. the quality still sounds great. how long exactly did you heat up your cable for each time? i know you waited 15 minutes between but i didn't hear how long you heated for. been thinking about doing this once my keep comes in :)

It’s hard to say how long it should be because it depends on the intensity of the heat source. Had my heat source on low and did around 5 minutes. Got it to decent heat and kept it there. It should feel very warm to touch but not scolding.

Great video! This is precisely what I'd like to do with the cables on my Moonlander.

Ha! It was one of the first things I did after getting mine :D

Hey Ben, Just ordered my moonlander today thanks to your lovely introduction to it.
Was wondering about coiling the TRRS cable as soon as it arrives, how is it holding up 5 months later?

Hi Sage. Cable absolutely fine. Pretty much the same as the day I did it 👍 Let me know how you get on with it!

It seems that the cable must be coarse enough to be coiled properly. The one that goes with Moonlander is quite soft, so I've ended up making it a little curly at most.

Did my Moonlander one absolutely fine. Sounds like you just need to apply more heat or for greater duration.

Thank You .. I was going to build a new longer cable, and I wanted a coiled one... Thank you .. Now I will just coil the existing one, and create a spare one ( both coiled )

Wouldn't coiling the wires like that cause electromagnetic interference and possible data lost or noise?

Well, I’m not an electrical engineer so couldn’t say for sure but many cables are coiled and I’ve not experienced a single problem 🤷‍♂️
