SARS seizes R10 million in Bitcoin mining equipment unlawfully connected to the Eskom grid

  • In a raid on an unauthorised warehouse in Vryburg, North West, members of the South African Revenue Service and the South African Police Service seized Bitcoin mining equipment worth R10 million. The crypto-currency mining equipment was illegally connected to the town's electrical grid through the warehouse. In addition to the costly consequences of not paying for services like electricity, Eskom has issued a warning that illegal connections could overload the national grid and cause trips or failures in power.
