Dan Gables 1972 Munich Olympics Gold Medal should be on the Top 100 Athletic Achievements. Going through 7 opponents w/o one point scored against him
There are about 1% as many women in wrestling as there are men. It is difficult to compare them on the same scale. Great vid. Agree with most choices.
They are wrestling other women, though. That is like saying the wrestlers from the 20s are not impressive. Makes no sense, the competition is still there.
@@jf8138 No, it makes perfect sense. There are still 6 freestyle Gold Medals, and only a few women chasing them. Thousands of men are after them. Who has the better chance of succeeding? Think a bit.
I think its a combination of their wrestling skills, accomplishments, and how they have represented USA rather than just the skill level of the wrestler
@@Gumby2Real I can accept that
@@jf8138lmao the skill when it comes to women’s wrestling is drastically below what the men have to face. Just go watch some matches. It’s like watching the best modified kids go at it😂
this sounds terrible, but women's wrestling and men's should be in different categories. This list is wild
It's not terribly It's the truth.
It’s not terrible at all. This is a pc list.
Some serious disrespect to Cael and Dan with this list.
Why, their accomplishments don't compare to those above them on the international level. The placement is correct. If you want to make a comment on disrespect, look at Hodge.
I think Jordan's longevity gives him the edge over John Smith
Not only that he kept other Olympic medalists from competing for years(dake and Taylor)
And it can be argued that Burroughs competed in an age with a higher caliber athlete. Imo it was also a deeper weight class on a world scale
Jordan has one Olympic title and if John stuck around there is no question he would have more world titles. As mentioned he retired with 6 world + Olympic titles at 26. Burroughs had 3 world + Olympic at that age. I also think the Olympics is substantially harder than worlds.
You could make the argument that the USSR only getting one entrant means everything pre 1992ish should not count the same, in which case I could see you ranking Burroughs #1, but I don't think Burroughs sticking around forever really makes a strong case for GOAThood. Its not like JS was not the best in the world at age 27.
@@johnalmondbro8732 please read what guy above you said. Thank you have a nice day
@@readclementine5228 2-3 behind Bruce.
Sorry, but there should be another list for women.
There probably shouldn't be one
Barely anyone competes in women's wrestling so the talent pool is small.
@kevinsho2601 women wrestling is growing to be fair. Fastest growing sport. But your point still stands. It's not as big an accomplishment to win in a pool that is 1% the size of the men's pool. If I beat 1 guy In a race, it's not as impressive as beating 1,000.
@@kevinsho2601 then they shouldnt be on the list
I scrolled the comments section expecting to see more of the accomplishments of these great individuals and flowers given... but I guess women being on the mat has broken some people's brains...... Flowers given to all the wrestlers in our history... an unbelievably tough sport with minimal flair on the receiving end... Thank you
Here's the thing. And I know it is controversial, but THAT very fact is a problem. There is absolutely no room for inclusion on an EXCLUSION based list. This list is the ethical epitome of exclusivity. You cannot include women on the list. Ever. There is no version of a top 1000 where a woman could crack the list. That is conservative and everyone knows it. A decade of state champs at all divisions of all states will produce more wrestlers at a higher level than women can challenge. There are noteworthy women, but the list is already reduced immensely of deserving men where there aren't enough spots available for everyone.
Another fantastic video! thank you!
Fantastic wrestlers . Love from Iran
John Smith is a very great pick for number one! Double jointed, strong, smart, and tough!!!
Great history and highlights.
I think 2 golds by Baumgardner beats out 1 gold by Borroughs. I love Jordan but it's like stars versus coins in Mario Party. Olympics is just bigger and more impactful. Probably unpopular opinion!
Nice 10 part series.
Someone please help me out here. Was Carlton Haselrig on this list? His wrestling experience enabled him to becoming an offensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers. His college accomplishments should have him in at least the top 90 best American wrestlers.
Sad to see a picture of Dupont next to Bumgartner 9:14. Was he in the team photo as a donor?
I have enjoyed the whole series. Combining men and women in a list like this makes little sense in any sport but especially wrestling. Think about swimming or track. Is Ledecky greater than Phelps? Is Flo-Jo better than Bolt? Gymnastics where the events differ; looks like Simone B is top. Make two lists. Most influencial people in US wrestling would be interesting. Some are coaches, some are athletes or both.
Amazing how far some people will go to protect their perceived manliness and use any excuse to dismiss women, no matter how accomplished.
@@lougiacobbi725 Not a dismissal. A statement of Facts.
if you looked at it just skill based yeah you probably shouldn't combine men and women but I think this list is a little more about how they represented America more than just their technical wrestling skills
@@Gumby2Real I would agree if the list were of the "most influential American wrestlers"
@@thoughtbubble7546 true but that’s my only thoughts on why they would have women grouped with the men but yea not the most accurate title for the list
6:48 this is just straight up untrue. Henry cejudo is the youngest american to win an olympic gold medal he won it at 18, EIGHTEEN, TWO YEARS YOUNGER THAN SNYDER WHEN HE WON AT RIO. Snyder is one of the greats of this generation, but to say he is the youngest american to win olympic title? NO!
Bruce is #1. Not even close. Only debate I will accept is John Smith due to his dominance.
Yeah I'm going with John Smith on that one.
@Michael-ii9fs Bruce had a much longer high level career. 4 olympic medals. World medals in 13/14 year stretch. Made the finals in 3 college seasons. Why do you choose Smith?
@@scooloverBruce was a heavy. Much easier to have long career and much smaller pool of talent.
@@sweeterscience83 ...and there it is!
@@scoolover because peak isn't equivalent to longevity. Consistency does matter. But John had plenty where that isn't an issue. It isn't the career longevity award. It is the greatest award. I do not consider Bruce's top level to match that ultra-competitive weight class dominance of John. I watched Bruce in person when I was a kid...I'm not knocking that pick. But my pick is John.
Haha margolis and grazer in the top 10 and ahead of Dan gable and Cael. Do better Christian. DO FREAKING BETTER! Ahead of DAKE? MY GOD MAN.
It’s going off accomplishments not who would win in a match
@user-hc2vk2zj7n I think the argument is that female wrestling is so new that level of competition is significantly lower, so the achievements are not comparable.
Women should not be included in this list.
good night
Ok Flo blew it putting women in there above Sanderson and Gable. What a joke. So lame
Sorry girls, but to compare the new womens wrestling with mens wrestling is unfair to say the least! Regarding the mens list: Winning an Olympic gold medal during the cold war against the Russians means much more to to the nation then winning one nowadays. And i expect a coaches list..cause Gable created not only olympic gold medalists but other coach-legends.
I agree with other posters: zero women should be on the list. Zero. Competition isn’t even comparable. Burroughs isn’t even close to Gable or Cael; Smith is the greatest and Bruce B should definitely be in top 10.
This might have been good, but ... annoying music.
stop with the fucking women in the top ten the level of competition is nowhere near close
the theme was accomplishments
I think
@CMcKinney7 what's a bigger accomplishment. Winning against a pool of 1 million vs a pool of 1,000?
@@svan81 the pool isn’t what matters. I agree women shouldn’t be this high on the list but what matters on this list is how well they’ve performed over the years against others.
@@CMcKinney7 against other women
DT got hosed on this list. Undervaluing Olympic golds like crazy. PFP #1 in the world for 4+ years
This was made before David’s ‘22 and ‘23 golds tho
@@jbud2877 oooooh. Didn’t know that
Lol girls wrestling
Lot of women's wrestling hate in here.. 😬 hate to see it
well, cause it is an unfair comparison, unfair for the men....
