Lol yep.. al frio hahahaha
Hola yo vivo en Ridgewood Queens ,se de los espacios pequeños en apartamento.Tengo renta estabilizada así que no pago mucho de renta. Bienvenido a N.Y
I have lived with my non-twin (😂) brother in 344sqft for past 8 years. We have good layout in our apartment so it is not big hustle. It is easy to maintain and clean, lower utilities and yeah not problem of any kind living in such small apartment. (And yeah in my country this kind apt goes for 150-350€ depending on location in capital and conditions (it is 99% of the time completly furnished and with balcony/terrace) but hey it is not NYC or any other major city that is expensive). :)
Wife and I pay 600 dollars a month for a full house and a big back yard in Green Bay Wisconsin.
That's a great deal. By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
wisconsin vomit
You couldn't pay me to live there.
$450 in Beloit.
That sounds so chill tbh always thought about moving up north to Wisconsin later on (I’m from Chicago). The amount of land you get in Wisconsin plus I’ve heard property taxes are way lower than Chicago’s. Sounds like dream land haha
Landlord is a criminal.
Then all Greenwich Village landlords are crime syndicate, hahaa. By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
Andre...
No. The landlord found people who are criminally stupid.
@GBomb Engineering
$300 a month in AZ gets you two bedrooms, all the amenities and a small yard.
I don't understand the appeal of spending so much to be miserable in a big city :? Can't you take a vacation there now and then and save sh^t loads of money?
I live in a small town and pay $350 for a 3 bedroom 1,200 sq ft apartment. No elevator, awesome landlord, she runs a video game store underneath us. No traffic, hardly any crime, great air quality, good water quality, friendly people, etc... I live less than a block away from a small park, and 1/2 a mile from a much bigger park. We don't have a large selection of restaurants though, or sites to see. Only nature.
@@TheBatugan77 but probably no jobs, restaurants, or fun things to do eh?
"We have a normal size oven."
My oven must be on steroids.
The apt is small but looks nice, since I don't have much furniture, and things, I could live in small apt like that, as long as I have a roof on top of me and a bed to sleep
What's up Manny, hope you're well bro.
Here Be Barr I'm good, hope you are well too, Welcome back
That's basically all we really need.
and a place to shit and shower
I am from NYC and a real estate broker but I don’t sell in Manhatttan but I was shocked to hear that a tiny 350 sq ft apt is $2700 a month. Not including any utilities. It is crazy prices to live in luxury boro.
Location location sadly
By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
luxury? I am not considering the city because of the roaches, so I stay north and take the train. a 30 minute train ride can get you a new luxury apartment for what this guy pays
Ah, I finally got to see your entire apartment. Making your brother’s room a living room is a great idea,. Rent is outrageous. Like you, I love that city. A friend and I used to hang on on his village apt rooftop. I loved it so much. It is magical at night. Every time I hear the song Up On The Roof, I have my flashback to that rooftop.
had a 2600 sq foot house with 3 car garage in Ohio. Mortgage with taxes was $1000 a month. Could never live in a closet in NY.
K Sib.. we pay for location 100%.. space is a major premium here sadly. By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
K Sib it’s still Ohio zzzzzzzzz
could never live in ohio.
lol comparing Ohio with NYC

I lived in Imperial Beach, Ca. Nice big yard, four blocks from the Pacific Ocean... Minutes from downtown San Diego...which is much prettier than NYC will ever be.
At a fraction of the cost, and with far superior weather.
I grew up in Chelsea, 26th and 9th (the middle-income 21-storey building development) in the ‘70s. About $300 back then for a nice size two bdrm apartment with my twin sis and my parents. Seeing these tiny apartments, and for these astronomical prices, makes me sick, frankly. The Chelsea apartments, and the similar ones on the Lower East Side, are still probably the most affordable apartments in Manhattan. Haven’t lived in NY in decades but I still miss it.
Esther14 yeah rent prices are insane indeed. So cool you have a twin also ! By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
Esther...
I miss the NY that used to be.
As a 5-6 year old...I could afford Yankees games, subway rides, and snacks for pocket change.
What 5-6 year old could do that now?
I remember growing up in a one bedroom apartment in Astoria for $650 with my family of 5 because that was all my parents could afford. I recently looked up how much that apartment rents for now, and was shocked to see it listed for just under $2000.
Cool apartment tour bro. This is what kept me from moving to NYC a few years ago (high rent for small places). Don't get me wrong, I love NYC and still think about moving there one day (after my kids head out to college), but not for now. Thanks for showing us your place, it really gives me an idea of what it would be like. I'd could see myself living there the wife though!
What's good Marlon ? Yeah it's a trade off, to live in downtown Manhattan. Other parts of NYC (uptown for example) have way bigger apartments.
Love to see your apartment and yes it's not that spacious indeed ;-) Our apartment was half the price and twice the space, but that's Dordrecht. I think in Amsterdam the prices made same crazy 'upswing'.
yeah, i can imagine. hope argentina is treating u well.
Hey John how you doing I'm glad you're back home I live in a house with my two youngest of my kids they're not married so I'm always alone at the house so for me the house is like huge casa so I enjoy the house with my two grand children when they do come and visit me my two grandchildren are from my oldest daughter Desi it's always a joy having the lovely grandchildren over your apartments nice it's me Vero again saying hello to the members of the Barrio keep up your lovely videosJohn and I suppose if I decide to ever live alone I wouldn't mind living in a small apartment it would be only me!😃😁😊
Thanks for checking in !!
I have family living there further out Laurelton, NY.. My father brought his home and has been living in New York since that 1970s. And I have lived with my father and my step-mother for a few years back in the 1970s. I have visited him a lot since then because I live in Chicago..
If it keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and suits your needs,, then it's perfect...The location is awesome.
I’ve lived in an RV here in San Antonio Texas including hill country area , so I think I could manage living in your space ! But like you said you pay for the experience , you’re only young once , so go for it ! I would love to live in New York for a while if I could 🤔!
I miss San Antonio and the Hill Country! And the tacos.
Boyd.. Yes I agree, you've gotta live it up when you're young. One day I want a super big space to hahaha.a By the way.. LOL, my trailer home was twice the size of the apartment I now have outside NYC. I went from 2 bedrooms, huge living room, kitchen, whirlpool tub, fireplace that was 14 by 80 to an apartment 14 by 18.... I miss my trailer home.
But when I retire I will be looking for an RV, living the dream
I think your apt is great!! Everyone wants bigger, more and more. But I love simplicity and cozy spaces😊
Thanks for the kind words .Check out my newest video on finding an apartment in NYC and leave a comment : ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
I moved from a 450 square foot to an 800 sguare foot apartment, and then i minimized, that is when I learned cozy has little to do with size. A huge bedroom with a bed and a night stand is as cozy as a stuffed small bedroom.
Living in a closet isn't cozy
Welcome home. Thanks for the tour.
I'm spoiled; afraid I'd have a hard time in such cramped spaces. Glad you can cope with it though. 👍
Yeah, this will be the smallest apt I ever live in.. I think hahaha.
I could done it when I was a 'yute'!
Nowadays, I couldn't get into or out of my 1980 Camaro without help! 😀😁😂😃
guys, the price is based mostly off location. in new york city, you’re surrounded by everything, there’s everything around u. good food, stores, basically anything. the city is expensive
A lot of people will say this is insane but honestly if you are a minimalist and don't mind the small space this is really good. Greenwich is a very trendy area so good on you for being able to rent there! NYC experiences are priceless and there's so much opportunity here, it's all about trade offs. Greetings from the greatest City in the world, NYC!
In Russia there are a lot of apartments of this size (33-36 sq.m.). Usually they are called a one-room apartment and include app. your size bathroom, a small hall or a corridor, a 5-8 sq.m. kitchen as a separate room with a door and a window, and of a relatively decent size room of 16-20 sq.m., sometimes with a balcony. 1-2 people usually reside in such apartments (one family, sometimes a young married couple with a small child). Nowadays, a lot of people do renovations of their apartments and you can find tons of videos of up-hauls and renovations. Many people share their newly-acquired knowledge of a renovation process, materials they used, etc., including "secrets" resourcefulness about organization of their living spaces (to see examples copy-past "ремонт квартиры" in Cyrillic (apartment renovation) on the youtube). It is interesting to see how our cultures differ. Had a Russian had such an apartment as you in NYC, he/she would never use such huge beds. Instead they would use a folding couch\sofa. And ... a full-size table in the kitchen... as upon Russian tradition, kitchen is the main place where the whole family meets +we tend to invite guests regularly and have fun at home instead of going out. Also, in Russia we still cook ourselves at home from scratch instead of using fastfood or frozen food. So, kitchen is traditionally a center of gravity of the whole apartment. As far as rent... the price of a 1-room apartment (which is 2 separate spaces: a kitchen and a room) in Moscow depends on its location. On the outskirts of Moscow the average price today is about $500+ while closer to the center it may rise up to $1000. The price may vary depending on whether the building is new or not, whether the apartment is well-renovated or not; how close it is located to the nearest metro station; what kitchen appliances it has; the quality of furniture, etc.

Thanks for making this vid! Really enjoyed it.
I lived in Williamsburg...and got a lot of space. It was really two separate living spaces, so I had a bedroom and living room and so did my roommate (dude I knew when we were in grad school). We shared a common space: kitchen, bathroom, dining area that was a no-man's land because we didn't cook. Your place is doable...for people who are quite close...a couple...or twins...but the decor feels a little frat-house. You should really re-grout your tile. It's actually an easy do-it-yourself project.
WBurg is awesome.. i was thinking about moving there, but the whole L fiasco changed my mind. By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
Expencive but is wort it great location best of success and travels player Barr
I chuckled when you said that your twin brothers room is “identical” to yours... with no pun intended lol 😊🥁
$2,700 for a doll size apartment 😱
😱
2 BRS at 350square feet. Surprising
thats cheap for Greenwich village, which is the most in demand neighborhood in the world.
juan ruvalcaba That’s NYC not Kansas. That’s a good price.
Robert Fernandez Yeah the same here in London mate. You pay for location tho not the apartment itself.
I wouldn't mind living in that small space if I were living alone but that's too cramped for a 2 bedroom. I'd rather rent across either of the two rivers and have a bigger space for less money and still be in close proximity to Manhattan.
I got the same shower curtain! It motivates my dreams when I shower! Although I'm on my second one now..my kittens nails in her adolescent time has torn It apart. She's a worldly swinger.

Before the internet I lived in a 300sq ft apt in Toronto which I loved. 2 rooms & a bathroom. I built a loft bed which gave me more room as I had high ceilings. My landlord took out the back window of my ground floor flat & put in a patio door so I gained another ‘room’ in the nice weather.

@3:40 “we like to collect money.” Haha who doesn’t? But seriously I do too, it’s fun to collect it from all around the world
I do too, I have money/coins from all the places I've visited....except London....I was only there for a layover. I have currency from Israel, Venezuela, Johannesburg, Germany, Switzerland, and several islands in the caribbean.
I'm from southern California and I've been living in mexico for 6 years now and im not planning on moving back. I just love everything here
Hey John, nice to see you!I also live in New York I think the price is not that bad for the area, I'm paying $600 for a tiny room in Brooklyn.
No.. it's actually considered affordable for Greenwich Village hahaha
Personally I couldn’t spend that much on an apartment when my 3200 sq foot house is only 2300 a month but it is New York and you are paying for location. I think it’s perfect if that’s what you want for your lifestyle and you’ve made really good use of the space. Thanks for sharing your apartment with us and good luck on your next move. 👍🏼
Mlab, thanks for the comment.. It is NYC and we do pay for location.. Speaking of my next move. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
About $45, 000 Mexican pesos that is insane!!!! in Guadalajara for 2600 dlls you can rent a big mansion with 6 bedrooms, pool, tennis court, jacuzzies, garage for 6 cars, sauna, studio and TV room etceteea in an area like Lomas del Valle, Colinas de San Javier or El Palomar.. I think a small, nice apartment like yours in a nice area here in Guadalajara cost about $ 600 US dlls a month
likely..
Love the tour. I will be moving into an apt. about that size. Looking forward to this new living arrangement. God bless you!!!
Hey neighbor. If I see you on the street one day I'll say hello. Welcome to New York! Cheers
Thanks ! I've lived here a while, but i'm welcomed back to the snow.
Thanks for sharing. I actually found it quite comfy for two bachelors to live there... You'd obviously work harder to get something bigger when you're ready to start a family, but all in all, I dig it... It's so New York. I would love to visit some day.
hahah you made me laugh when you were talking about the stairs I RELATE
I used to live in the Village many moons ago....and rent was always astronomical there. I also lived in Yorkville, Chelsea, Gramercy Park, Hell's Kitchen and the East Village, but the rents in Greenwich Village were always a lot higher. I miss NYC (the Village in particular), but not the price of rent or the tiny spaces. When you're in your 20's-30's size doesn't matter as much as location.
KingKongFan that's the thing most people don't get.. the location in NYC is everything.. We become horribly lazy. By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
I could totally live here, I mean if I could afford it LOL, its small but I love small spaces, and I like how you use mirrors! its very pretty and in a great city
i used to live in chinatown ny near soho for about 16 years...think we have 2 bedroom etc..rent was going up..we have to
moved.
do u pay bills water heat etc?
wait what? you have a twin? im just so amazed about twins
Yeah he makes the occasional cameo in vlogs.
i live in L.A and is also getting very expensive. Rent for a single is about $1,300 and 2 bedroom is about $2,200. But im planning to move in a year or 2 . I work for a great company and cannot complaint, the cool thing about L.A tho, is that we have the perfect weather. Im planning to visti NY before my trip to Mexico, but I wouldnt live in NY, i must admit that NY is very a beautiful. One: Overprice 2nd: the weather is a nono, too cold specially in snowy days. You should make a vid about NY shops, bars, places to take great pictures etc.....But John you can always go back to Mexico or ajijic and start a new life just like kinetic kennons and los perms hahaha. Cheers man good to see your vids. Your channel is like my netflix lol.
hahah thanks dude.
Solrac C what part of LA do you live in. I live in not so glam Hollywood and studios range from 1800-4000 a month. One bedroom from 2100-4500. Any 1bdroom that's kinda nice but no palace you can't touch four under 2300 unless you don't need parking.
I live in West LA near Beverlywood, and found a nice studio for only 800/month since 2010. It's a great location. It doesn't look "glamorous" but it's certainly not ghetto.
I love how people freak out about the prices of everything and how little you seem to get in return when moving to Manhattan. These are the people that don’t realize that living in cramped quarters and budgeting your money is part of the adventure and fun. New York is one of the most alive places on the planet, there’s opportunity and adventure literally around every corner. Is it the best place to settle down? Not really. Is it an amazing place of opportunity for young people? Yes it is. I plan on moving back soon and I’m so excited.
Of course people are going to freak out over the cost, paying that much for such a crappy tiny living space isnt normal. I get that it can be an experience for outsiders so to each their own I guess but pissing your money away for the sake of living in Manhattan seems a little silly.
But see that's it you completely miss the point. It's not for everyone, and sure Manhattan as a borough is a little overrated to live in as there are other places in New York City to live in. However as an outsider you shouldn't move to the city if you're a normal person expecting a spacious living area. You just won't be happy if you're expecting some high end loft with a terrace. However many people see New York City as a hub of opportunity, creativity, and culture. The experience of the hustle and bustle of a city is to many worth the sacrifice of their material belongings and living accommodations. It's experience and adventure, so yes someone like you who would view it as a waste of money shouldn't live there. That's okay, you view things very practically and would prefer a larger space. Sure the price isn't normal, Manhattan isn't normal, it's not necessarily for normal people either.
Yes high crime, homelessness, and a mentally ill communist mayor is real exciting. Nothing adventurous about living in an overpriced broom closet.
@@TheJpep2424 OH... my gosh. Nobody here cares about your politics. Not everyone wants to live at J Pep manor mkay? This comment is so old like why would you even bother to reply. So irrelevant.
Oh boy, with that money you can get a very luxury apartment in Guadalajara :D
Yeah, but what about the crime there?
Beverly what about the crime in NYC???? 😂😂😂
kparso01 Oh! I didn't think of that....you are right!
Good grief! Does anybody really want to live in Guadalajara? You could buy a dream house in Maine or Vermont!
@@beverly5886 you would honestly be VERY surprised how normal day to day life can actually be in mexico. don't let all of the media enforced stereotypes cloud your perception on the normal life that this place can really bring.
It's NYC! It's going to be expensive, sadly that's how it is and is the same in London and Brighton, too.
Found your channel when we were going to NYC last Nov and recognised the route we walked from midtown to the 9/11 memorial when you showed the view from your fire escape.
Thank you for sharing your apartment with us, caught a glimpse of your mezuzot, too ☺️ just had to replace a few of ours as the script had deteriorated.
Looking forward to more New York vids.
Thanks, good catch ;) And yes, i'm planning a bunch of new NYC stuff shortly. It's actually harder for me to get motivated to make videos in my own town haahha.
It's small but doable. I could make something this size work once I got rid of 75 percent of what I own. I live in a house with 3000 square feet of space which means I have a lot of crap.
Check out my latest vlog if you want to see how my housing search is going.

I’d love to live in that apartment. I live in Texas. I lived in a house here that once had two bedrooms but the landlord combined the rooms and made a walk-in closet with washer and dryer and one huge bedroom. It had a huge backyard and front yard. I paid $400 a month. So your rent would give me a heart attack each month. But I’m sure the experience would be amazing.

I've lived in NY for several years and can say this apartment is actually a good deal, given that neighborhood's demand. Was last paying $1500 a month for a modern studio about 5 years ago out in Sunnyside and that was near the bottom of the market.
My family is apart of Manhattan. I've never lived there. I've been looking into prices for the past year. There is no way I would live in your apartment. It's way to small. Manhattan is a wonderful place though. I'm in Pa at the moment. Will be moving to Az hopefully soon. I love hot weather. Thanks for sharing. :)

When I call an old friend or a business in NYC, I usually throw out that I would like to move back. Almost without exception, I get the exact same response: 5 seconds of silence, and then, “Why?!”
Fantastic! Love your attitude. Yes I would have lived there. Glad you have a sibling you know you get along with. Really 3-4 people could love there. I live in the Bay Area so I know expensive housing. So worth it for the location for a few of your younger years.
Hey welcome home! I live in the "forgotten borough" rents are much more affordable here. I drive in or I take mass transit into manhattan, Park Slope, Williamsburg or Astoria. (of course it's not the same as living in those neighborhoods) It's been working for me for many years now. Your rent may be expensive but to be young and live in Grenwich Village is priceless! Thanks for the apt, tour!
You're very welcome.
You live in Staten island right lol? X3
I got really lucky, or blessed if you will, I’m a super for a 6 story building in the west village and it has a doorman and they pay me well to live in a 1500 sq foot 3 bedroom apartment with all utilities included. I even have a bar sized pool table. My family and friends love to come and stay with me.
What is the average price of an apartment in your area/building?
9,999damage A one bedroom apartment will run you 800k to one million. It’s ridiculous.

When I hung in the Village during the 60’s, I met a guy named Bruce Whos grandmother owned a place in the village, but she passed away. He was going to stay there while going to NYU. Bruce and I used to go up to the roof and smoke and eat and just enjoy life going on below us. Whenever I hear the song, Up On The Roof, one of my favorite songs, I am flash-backed to my nights with Bruce on that roof. 4 to 5 stories above the street
Great song.

Its not the best thing for me but it's a good idea for a couple
Sounds about right. Not surprised. I saw prices like that in Boston when I lived there. It's all about location location location.
New York is definitely an exciting city and probably best to live there when you are young and don't mind the shortage of space. I'm too old for that now and live outside of Denver in my 3,500 sq. ft home with four bedrooms, 3- car garage and mountain view for 2,250 mortgage & taxes. I don't fault you one bit for living there because priorities and circumstances change all throughout life. My best to you and thanks for the video tour.
Great music choice on your laptop 😀👍🏼
hahhaha thanks guys
Hearing the door open and close still gives me chills.
Jajajjaja
In a heartbeat - good for you!

I moved from Dallas to Indianapolis and downsized from a 2 bdrm 2 bath condo 1100 sq ft to a 1 bdrm 1 bath apt thats 750 sq ft. This is as small as I can get. My living room - dining area is 400 sq ft. But you are living the life in NYC! Enjoy.
I live in London so I get crazy rent prices. For what you're paying there in rent in Greenwich village you could buy a 2 bed 1,000+ ft apartment in upper Manhattan with outdoor space. I went from renting a tiny apartment to buying a huge apartment further out of town and my mortgage was less than my rent and the commute isn't crazy. I think I would really struggle to go back to living in a box however central it was.
I used to have that same shower curtain, and so did Joey and Chandler on Friends.
That’s outrageous $$$ , But I do see the benefits of the area, coupled with the experience of the area! I pay $2000 for 2131 sq ft- 4 bed 2.5 bath
Half Acre on a lake- in TEXAS -- and it’s a popular place to live!
Wow, I wouldn't know what to do with that space. By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
5 bedroom 1,500 Texas here!
Love the shower curtain...hahaha I think I need to get one myself! Very functional use of space...you can totally live in a Japanese studio apartment =)
How are you able to save for retirement????
UNO in Yonkers, a duplex (two story) apartment can be got for 2800, 24 hr security, package concierge, 2 outdoor decks with BBQ you can reserve, and 2 party room you can reserve at no charge. Growing neighborhood, 30 minute train ride to 42nd street. Oh, and 450 square foot studio micro apartments , which have washer and dryer in the unit, heat and a/c, and all electric, and free wifi, all for that one price of 1700 to 1900 depending on the floor and the view.. No surprise con ed bills.
I could do it; I love New York! But it might be hard to leave my 1960s 2,800 sq. ft. colonial. Might have to leave the piano and dining room table behind 😊
Dawn.. yeah the piano would be a problem to get up the stairs here, jaajjaa. By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
Making it work. 💚 it!
The outter Boroughs (Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens & Maybe Staten Island) is not much cheaper either especially in neighborhoods with easy access to the subway. But probably for the same price get a bit larger place in nice quiet neighborhoods.
Thinking paint...plus would do a banquette w/ table in kitchen ...cozy & cute
Hmmm.. i like your ideas hahaha. By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html
Very cute, good use of space, too! I'd live in a place like that, but couldn't do the stairs, LOL I'd have to carry my S.D, as he's a Corgi. 😂🐶

I have the same rent as you guys. I live in chicago at the north end of michigan avenue behind the hancock tower. My apartment is a vintage 1920s midrise. 2br 2ba, about 1200 sqft, totally renovated bathrooms and kitchen (predictable updates like stainless steel appliances and marble tile). Original hardwood flooring, fireplace, a huge living room, an entry foyer, lots of crown molding everywhere, tons of natural light, and a view of lake michigan (I'm on the 20th floor). It's extremely quiet and i walk or bike everywhere, don't drive in chicago. We have free laundry in the building, free heating and gas and water. This is one of the only old buildings in the city with hvac in each unit so i control the temperature and don't pay for it, which is amazing. No window a/c which is also amazing. I love it here and this apt is one of the reasons I'm staying in chicago.
I just visited NY and i love it there too and honestly I'm tempted to move there for a year or so, could live with a friend in queens for very little money and queens seems like my scene, but imoresssions as a tourist are always sorta rosy. Anyway, enjoying your videos and if you ever get burned out on NY check out chicago, quality of life is much higher although the city is sleepy in comparison.
Dude I pay 300 for my room in a frat house at Newark.... literally right across the Hudson River. I spend weekends in nyc all the time.
Looks like you got a good deal. I like the video because it shows what's possible to get in Manhattan. But I wanna ask, why Greenwich Village? What's you opinion on other neighborhoods in Manhattan or other areas (maybe Brooklyn) you might've considered?
I'm from Westchester and I'm planning (at some point) to move down there. I'm not sure if I'd prefer Manhattan over Brooklyn. And I wouldn't mind living in Queens or the Bronx either. But one thing that'd be useful (especially for people who live far away) is some kind of neighborhoods guide to all the areas in NYC.
At least it'd be interesting to hear peoples' opinions and comparisons of all the neighborhoods of the boroughs. Curbed NYC (blog) does short blurbs on that stuff but it isn't really comprehensive. Too much of it is either focused on travelers or it's overly focused on whether some place is a hip neighborhood at the expense of just practically laying out the differences between the neighborhoods.
Great point.. A neighborhood guide would be interesting.. I've never done a pure "Greenwich Village" Neighborhood Guide..
To answer your question why Greenwich Village:
1) Absolutely some of the best nightlife/restaurant/entertainment combos in the city.. Hands down it's tough to find a neighborhood in Manhattan with that much going on that's not super touristy like Times Sq
2) The area is really nice.. the buildings, the architecture.. unique. different
3) It's very Central to all trains.. the 1 (west), A,C,E,B,D,F,M, and 6 (eastside) are all easy walks
We got lucky finding this apartment. We thought it was actually the neighborhood was out of our price range, but we found it 6 years ago at 2,000 a month and hopped on it. There's many good neighborhoods out there, your best bet is to walk around during the day and at night to get a TRUE feel.
Curbed is pretty useless for practical guidance. I had the same problem when i moved to chicago
You and your twin would be great as news anchors together! Thanks for the tour. Could not live there too many people.
Yeah, if to many people is your issue. Don't move here haha . By the way.. If you liked this video, you should check out my newest video about apartment hunting in NYC ! Leave a comment and i'll make sure to respond: ruclips.net/video/U53g1wdZDUM/видео.html

Wow... I live in Indianapolis and baught a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom historic home in 1 of the most popular areas! Beautiful old homes go anywhere from 200,000 to over millions! And my house payment is 850 a month! Its shocking how much that tiny apartment costs!

When you first got the apartment sounds like it was reasonable now they went up but that's what everything like you said in New York is expensive but what you have in the apartment it's really not bad two bedrooms are Plus the kitchen in the bathroom I think it's a nice apartment
Toronto Canada which is very expensive for Canada. Pay $1630 for a 800 sq ft. 1 BR + Den including parking and all utilities (excluding internet) on the waterfront right downtown. It's a bargoon as they say, market is now about $1,000 more for the same space. I am lucky to rent before it went insane.
love that song in the background!

My mother had a very hip and savvy cousin that lived in NYC for many years. When I was in my teens, dreaming of eventually living in NYC as an actor, I asked her, "What was like to live in New York City?" She answered, "I loved New York; I couldn't wait to get out."
(Myrna) Love the location, don't know if I could live in such a small apartment, but rent definitely kills you..
Yep, in this location. double the size= double the cost.
I like it!
Hi Jon, welcome back! We lived in NYC for 15 years. A good place when you're young. We moved to New Jersey when Josh was 7. Apartment was too small for 3. That's why you met Josh. Now we're in Pennsylvania In a very large apartment for half your total price. But it's right for you! Adios! 😉
I love the shower curtain and your apartment
Rochester, NY, double lot, detached garage, 2100 sq ft, 3(4) BR, 2 full baths, paid off (thank God for relatively inexpensive city housing!), taxes avg @$250/mo. Mid-sized city w/ big city amenities & culture, easy commutes.
Wow amazing! And to living in the village, uuggghh. Spent my twenties living in the Castro In the other City, and this would go $4-5k a month for rent.
A lil cozy apt in the nyc... priceless!!

Fui en la New York en los veranos 1976-1978. En aquel entonces NY tenía muchos problemas y casi en default y no me gustó. Desde entonces y he vuelto y lo he disfrutado. Soy un hombre mayor. Ahora quiero un poco más espacio pero no mucho.
Ahhh... si mi apartamento no seria para ti.
3 years ago I paid 465.00 a month for a 650 sq ft apt with washer and dryer water included in Nashville TN.... I now own a place outside the city with nopayment ( paid cash) I couldn't imagine paying those high rental rates
I grew up on the south side of SI but now I've been living in IN for 16 yrs. For the past 14 yrs my hubby and I live in a 3 bedroom 1329 sq. ft ranch home and our mortgage is $645. to live in town on a 1/4 of an acre. We have been talking about moving to a smaller home but everything we find the mortgage would be more for less space and land.

I pay $1,000 a month most utilities included i.e. power, water, trash (not TV or internet) and I live just a few miles outside the city of Raleigh, NC. I think my area is known for being the most affordable places for what your money gets you.
