"Steel wool on the pickup?" I'm sure you're a decent tech on your gear, but I wouldn't mention the word "steel wool" when around a pickup. A rookie wannabe guitar tech may not be careful and steel wool use can kill their pickup. 3M makes a better material to use.
Noted…. Pickup bobbins were taped off and only area “scuffed”was the logo area. Surely not going to “kill” a pickup but understand your concern. A 3M green weenie may be a better choice depending on the operator.
THANK YOU! That’s exactly why I leave the ball on the string and put a bunch of wraps on it, and I’ve been telling people this for ages and they look at me like I’m crazy 😅
$1600.00 is insanity. The Kramer Baretta Vintage with SD pickup and Floyd is $700.00. Two of those and a couple hundred dollar bills for one of those? No way. Overpriced.
Im seriously considering buying this guitar, but some people complain about the pau ferro (does it make a difference sound wise), also the non relic version of this guitar has a coil split, do you think a coil split is necessary for these pick ups. Overall nice video Jave a nice day
I love this guitar! Surely one of my best players. I chose the orange because of the contrast with the pau ferro. Not an ideal fingerboard for me but the playability surely trumps the board. I’ve seen a lot of crooked logos on these so put eyes on it before purchase if that would bother you. A coil split surely adds more dynamic but not a show stopper for me. I’m not a big user of a split. Thanks for watching!!
First you buy an expensive guitar, than you gain 40 hours times 25 dollar and sum replacements.......??? Next time put 400 dollars more and get a gem...... but thats me! 😜
Yea that’s an upgrade that I do immediately unless it’s going to add more weight to a guitar that is heavier than I like already. There is a tone difference to me, and adds weight to a guitar that may be on the light side. I recommend!
@@40gritguitarsthanks!! 👍🏼 Mine sounds great after straightening the pickups to make them parallel with the strings. The fret work is not great on mine, the 11th fret is a little high causing some buzz.
Nice collection there! Seeing you own both Charvels & EVH, what do you think about The Relic Charvel vs an EVH Frankie(Relic)? I'm between the 2 and while I think the Charvel is the more versatile guitar I really like my FR flush to the body. Cheers!
Well good luck finding an EVH or Charvel that sits flush! Nearly all come with float. You will have to work on neck angle if you want it to sit flush. IMO the Charvel smokes the EVH. That new relic neck is very comfortable and it’s 2 hum. The neck pickup is functional on the EVH but you would need to wire it. Hope this helps… I have videos on both guitars posted.
Cool guitar! Not usually a relic fan, but this looks like an old worn Charvel. All you need are some black pickup rings (I hate direct mounted pickups)!
Just curious - surely your comment about resale value if the headstock logo is off-straight makes sense only if you haven't changed every other thing on the guitar?
A crooked logo hurts your resale value….. not many want a guitar that has a crooked logo. Upgrades? If you upgrade it is my opinion that upgrades do not help or hurt value. I always keep the original parts and include if I sell. Or I will restore to stock prior to sale. Now if you downgrade that will hurt the value. Downgrading will be the opinion of the buyer. I hope I answered your question. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks! I am currently using the 5150 iconic 80w head and 2 EVH 212 cabinets. I have all my pedals on a short…. I need to do a pedal walk around. Thanks for the content idea!
Very cool 40! Looks and sounds amazing! I love how clean your electronics are!! We sure miss you on JB. Love your shirt too! Let me know if you are interested in buying a Tinkerman poster for that wall of yours. I'd send you one free, but I'm in Brokelahoma! Thanks! Long Live King Edward!
I’ve heard great things about the Strandberg but I have not played one. I would recommend that you play both and make your move. I love this guitar though. Plays fantastic.

Haha, been doing it since I was in high school.

Well they’re going for $1100 used.. so go the used route!!

Hey man! Have you tried am EVH5150 standard? I can’t try them in my area but debating getting one of the two!
I have! There is a review on my stealth… check it out! Between the 2 I would take the Charvel.
Hi, what are you using to block the tremolo?
Alder. Any hard wood will suffice.

Are you saying there is a gem guitar out there for $2k? I’m not understanding your post. Please elaborate!
Please explain what do you mean ?
@@Mujcanal he forgot that it would take over 40 hours to find that unicorn, a $2k axe with original FR
I just got one of these! Curious how the tone block changed to tone of the stock one? Great info video, Thanks!

Easy fix!
thats one of the cleanest solder jobs i've ever seen, beautiful guitar all around
Thank you!
I'm looking really hard and getting one of these guitars. I really dig the mods you made! It look fantastic!
Thank you so much!! You won’t regret your purchase.
Prefer a single pickup.

It’s a good one. I’m not a direct mount fan either…. Especially on deep cavity’s. Thanks for your comment.

How is that Pau Ferro neck compared to the quarter sawn maple neck on the EVH non striped relic. Something about PF that just seems cheap.
I don’t mind it at all. I prefer maple but not an option as of right now. It looks good on the guitar. No complaints here.
Nice guitar. I absolutely hate Pao Ferro boards. I hope they offer maple or rosewood fretboards eventually.
I agree. I wanted the relic Charvel and the orange looked best with the pao ferro.
More fender junk.
Thanks for watching!
I had a Schaller lockmiester trem fitted to my Charvel, and my original 1980's Ibanez RG550. They are amazing trems.
Yes they are!
Just bought 2 black chrome LockMeister last year... $197 ea. ($218 now). It's literally a Floyd Rose that just says "LockMeister" instead.
The Jackson headstock should be an option, being so "old."
Yea, you’re probably right.
Way to go 40!!!!!!
Sounds great! Amp? Effects?

this or a strandberg essential 6?
I’ve heard great things about the Strandberg but I have not played one. I would recommend that you play both and make your move. I love this guitar though. Plays fantastic.
How far away are your pickup pole pieces to the bottom of your strings?
With high and low E fretted, neck measures 7/64 on bass and 6/64 on treble. Bridge is at 5/64 on bass and 4/64 on treble.
@@40gritguitars thanks. What fret are the high and low e fretted on?
Last fret.
Hello beautiful :D
