  • Urban Knife Guy shares his thoughts on the Boker Magnum Giant Bowie, which is a new interpretation of the legendary Vietnam-style Bowie. He explains why, from his perspective, it will not make a good jungle survival knife.
The 8 1/8" 440 stainless steel blade features a precise grinding and is extremely sharp.
The guard and pommel are made of polished stainless steel, and the genuine leather handle features soft finger grooves, which tops off the overall look of this classic piece. Includes sharpening stone stored in the leather sheath.
    12 5/8" overall length .

I live in the south east united states. Our region is considered part of the eastern woodlands. The tang and steel are what kills it for me. I actually prefer smaller handles even though I have somewhat larger hands. They feel more secure. The hollow grind isn't my favorite, but it isn't a deal breaker either.

    It's a fighting knife design.

The Bowie Knife isn’t for surviving the jungle. It’s for settling disputes on a sandbar. It excels at arbitrating disagreements between two motivated parties.

The reason I asked is because they bill it as a machete but it really is just a big drop point knife. I thought it was odd that they called it a machete but then in one of your videos you had a bunch of parangs and one of them looked like a big drop point knife. Would you think it is fair to say that parang is similar to a big drop point knife?

Nice looking knife if you want to look like a mountain man or a fighter. But I doubt it is practical for anything. It would take a lot of skill and strength to even use it as a weapon. I agree with you. I don't see this knife as being very useful.

You are right! They do look similar. Although made in China, it is still a German brand :-D

Looks like a copy of the SOG Super Bowie. A Vietnam (jungle) war era tribute fighting knife. I have the similar pattern 6 Inch Tech Bowie. It's not full tang, but the tang is almost 1/4 Inch by an inch with a pommel screwcap. Nice knife.

It is a cheaply made copy of the CISO Bowie carried by some MAC SOG and CIA personnel during Vietnam. It was in fact used in the jungles of SE ASIA as a combat knife. There were made in country as well as in Thailand. The originals bring a hefty price tag. Doing a review...kinda an opinion on a historical piece requires prior study.
