  • For new or recent owners of the Electrolux front loading washing machine EWF 14742. Some may experience a problem with removing the pump filter as I and other people have, so I share my tip on how to solve that problem.

    Thank you ❤ Eliza even this was 7 years old video and watching this video in 2023, all we have to do is use the plier, woo hoo. Electrolux needs to reinvent a simple solution to remove the filter, it was really frustrating.

    Thanks very much for this video. It is still helping people after 5 years. I was a bit worried about splitting the part by using the pliers, so I had a think and removed the tilting spigot at the front (it just clips into 2 flexible receptacles/holes on either side). Then I inserted a little bar through these two holes and used that to gain leverage to force the anticlockwise rotation. I actually used a L-shaped hex spanned to do this, just as a leverage bar. This seemed to work well and as it was applying rotational pressure on 2 sides, I think it is far less likely to damage the part. Hope this helps someone. I think the technique mentioned by others about using spreadeagled longnose pliers also has plenty of merit, and also results in even rotational pressure from both sides.

    Oh my goodness me! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!! We had a blockage and our washing machine stopped working, realised we never cleaned out the filter for 5 years.. all this time we were cleaning out the wrong filter. It was very hard to take out our filter but with the recommended tools we managed to pull it out and give it a thorough clean. Our filter had $2 and $1 stuck inside and lots of buildup of gunk and dust, it was a nasty sight. Thank you so much once again! This video really helped us!

    Hello Eliza, Thank you for posting this How To Video. We have an Electrolux 8 kg Time Manager washing machine and I tried to unscrew the filter a few times by hand, but gave up because it seemed too damn tight. After watching your video and pliers trick I decided to try again. The pliers I used at first were too aggressive and I feared they would break the plastic when biting on one side only of the filter insert. So I turned the pliers around, spread the handles/legs apart and located each leg into each slot on either side of the filter so that the pressure was evenly distributed. Turning anticlockwise the filter element unscrewed rather easily and I was able then to remove and clean all the gunk out. I flushed the inner part of the filter with clean water squirted in with a 600ml water bottle rescued from the recycle bin. I just aimed it in and squeezed the bottle, the water filled the inner filter area and came gushing out everywhere. I re-screwed the filter element back in and put another load of washing through, all is good no leaks.

      Hi, I'd check the filter again and make sure you have completely turned that so it's locked in place to seal it and that spout on the front of it is closed. If that is okay then check your hose connection and your outlet hose is not popped out from the sink ? Hope this helps ?

    Thanks so much for this! The design really isn't good... I've not been happy with my machine for a number of reasons. I changed to a front loader for the eco-friendly water savings, but I'm not happy with stiff towels (never ever had this with numerous top-loaders) and it's difficult to keep the machine from smelling not fresh, even though I dry and leave the door open after use. I know about cleaning the machine, but it's disappointing to feel I've gone backwards with machine washing!

      They make an enzyme spray for this exact purpose. It works great. Also, this machine is great for high use. If you only use it occasionally you're way more likely to have the stagnant smell issue but again the enzyme spray solves this problem.

    Can you add bleach to the wash with this model? I've looked through the manual and can't find anything about the use of bleach or where to put it.

    • @Elillybeez3
      @Elillybeez3  8 лет назад

      Hi Yvonne, yes manuals can be pain, bleach diluted a little and then start washing straight away is fine, it doesn't mention bleach but it is used for laundry so I believe it would be fine.
      It mentions in the manual detergent and additives ( it's on page 13 set 3) and (page18 6.6)so it's fine as long as it's put into the same dispenser as you put your front loader laundry detergent which are lower in suds better for your front loader and just don't use in pre wash or the detergents won't be rinsed out enough. I hope that helps :)

    Hi there
    Thanks for the info, I'm getting mine delivered this weekend. Would I need to fill the machine with 2 litres of water on the first run?
    What's your overall view on reliability of this machine
    Thanks Manny

    • @Elillybeez3
      @Elillybeez3  9 лет назад

      emmanuel papatheodorou Hi Manny.
      Your welcome. Usually if you buy your front loader from a appliance store. the delivery people usually help set it up and do that for you as there are bolts to remove from the back of the the front loader which keep the drum stable during shipping and connect the hose to the cold water outlet.
      If you order from an online store and its just shipped to your door then it is those little things that need to be done before using the front loader.
      Yes its advisable to add that 2 liters of water in the detergent dispenser, so that The pump is primed, otherwise it makes a weird noise as the pump sucks air, which isn't good.
      Other than the pump filter being a challenge to remove fist time. I'm happy with its overall performance and especially like that I can reduce the time a bit, on any of the long cycles and also water temperature, so its a bit more customized to my requirements. The manual is pretty good at explaining things. but some people are visual learners and manuals can be frustrating for some. So I figured this could help them too. Congratulations on your imminent new addition to the laundry. :)

    Can anyone tell me what they use in their Electrolux machine. I have had any amount of trouble since I bought my Electrolux Front Loader EWF14742. I contacted Electrolux & they told me I was using too much washing powder/liquid. I have cleaned the machine as they stated too, use half the amount of product & yet I still have product marks on my clothes.
    I buy good washing powder/liquid & do not use fabric softeners as Electrolux said not too.
    I am so over it I want to get rid of a 6 month old machine.
    My daughter has a front loader, different brand & uses all products, I have used her machine on many occasions & no problems; so what is wrong with my machine. Help please help :-)
    Glad of any help or suggestions.

    • @Elillybeez3
      @Elillybeez3  8 лет назад

      Hi Iris. Here are a couple tips which may help you? Some of these may be obvious, but for some people, sometimes its the simple things that can be overlooked.
      1. Has the front loader drum been over packed with dirty laundry? If you cant put your hand in amongst the dirty laundry and move them around freely and it is just a solid mass of laundry, then when you start the wash cycle there is no way the laundry is going to absorb the water and laundry detergent and move about to loosen the dirt out of the fibers. 2 . What cycle are you using? If you are on a short cycle 18 min , then you must ensure that you only put small load of lightly soiled laundry, like a quarter the front loader drum. 3. Yep definitely the amount of laundry product you use matters too and of course use the one for front loaders as the top loaders have way more soapy agents because they use more water in a wash cycle than front loaders. Anyway, as I mentioned, these may be obvious, but worth checking. I hope this helps. :)

      Thanks John, I have tried Dynamo also quite a few of the other good brands of washing liquids/powders. I have tried less product etc but still get awful marks on my dark clothes. I have also cleaned the machine twice now as Electrolux advised, just get tired of this machine. I am now trialing Earth Choice hoping that may help. Have taken to putting good dark clothes in a pillow case and tying the top to stop the marks on my good dark clothes. I also let the water out and take the filter out as well and clean it regularly. Why the heck the filter is on the floor i will never know. If this is a repeat forgive as was unsure if the last message went. I know as soon as I can I will be trading my Electrolux Inverter in & get something another machine that functions properly......

      Hi. If you are referring to the location of the pump filter, it is on the front right-hand side.

      @@Elillybeez3 After looking at it, can't find it. Will have to do some research. (Mine is slightly different than what I see here, but thanks!)

      Hi Stuart, If you haven't checked already, I'd check the cold water hose as sometimes they will come lose at the tap connection and water runs down the hose and drips onto the floor. If that's the case just tighten it again and that should help.
