    RIP to that second frame
    It could’ve been an award winning photo
    But instead it was wasted
    Banished
    Forgotten
    Forever lost in the space time continuum

    I spent a lot of money on this filmstock & wasn’t that impressed. I always see other people produce great shots with it though, so maybe I need to change my subjects.

      @H4KUN4M3N03D3L 4 года назад +2

      I've used it once. But like Willem says: in overcast light it mostly seems to produce subdued colors. And pretty much all the photos I took had the orange halos in some area, which I'm not really a fan of either. I found the whole kinda underwhelming. So it really isn't a very versatile film at all. Which I think isn't really the point of it anyway.

    I absolutely love this film. It's one of my favorites. I find it doesnt handle overexposure really well. It gives everything a green/orange overcast. I'd recommend shooting some portraits with it. I love the skin tones on this, especially at sunset.

    Great videos. Love your work, and wish I'd had your skills when I was that young. If you think that shooting ISO 50 is tough with the slow shutter speeds and mid to wide apertures - you should have been around in the days of Kodak Kodachrome 25 transparency film. I used to shoot lots of glossy magazine work back in the 1980's and it was mostly all done in Kodachrome 25 in 35mm. A tripod was a must if you wanted a good depth of field. But the results were fantastic.

  • @JamieMPhoto
    @JamieMPhoto 4 года назад +8

    Ah ha, I knew they must have cut their rolls slightly short or something. I think Lomography does this, too. I'm a stickler for hitting the Start point, but always seem to have weird cutoffs with these brands. Thankfully, the results on the rest of the rolls make it worth putting up with. I expected to be underwhelmed with the 50D, but I shot it in some mild overcast and strongly backlit and was blown away by how soft it all fell because of the halation. It's not something I'd shoot as often as the 800T and especially the other films, but it's a keeper in certain situations.

    Willem, great shit I gotta say! Your work is what inspires me the most these days to go out again shoot film. I am usually more of a conceptual photographer who can't really get something out of the environment I live in because of aesthetic reasons and my own picky mind. So I usually have to create spaces and scenes that "correspond" to me. But your images and seeing your workflow just does something to my photographer eye and all of a sudden I find interest in things that never spoke to me before.

    Hey Willem, I just wanted to let you know that I shot a roll of 800T a month or so ago and had that exact same circular chemical mark at the end of the roll as well as the cut off of my last image. Super bummed about it because it should've been a favourite. Instead it was ruined... honestly feel like the film is a tad gimmicky and not very versatile on top of the negatives I already mentioned. That said, I did enjoy the colours from the film as experimental image making but not for more serious work.

    People can shoot handheld at slower shutter speeds. I can hold the camera steady at 1/15 of a second with a 50mm lens 35mm film. The trick is you have to push the shutter release very slowly. It is kind of like shooting a gun if you have ever done that.

    I’m pretty sure the round chemical dot means the length of film you got was from either the beginning or end of the original Kodak film reel Cinestill cut the film from. When I’ve shot 16mm, the very start of the film reel before I start getting an image has a circle in the middle. It’s probably just there as a clear indicator of the start/end of a reel to show that the white overexposed image isn’t due to a camera malfunction.

    50D is my go to architecture and landscape film. It is so sharp, that even with an 35mm SLR, and a decent lens, you can get stuning resoults. It's a bit too much for me to shoot street with it,, (my main thing), but nevertheless, I just LOOVE this film.

    I always shoot 50D at ISO25 - which is a challenge on Medium Format without a tripod. Love the results when I do, but hate the process of getting the shots unless on 35mm with F1.2/1.4 lenses.

  • @Zetaphotography
    @Zetaphotography 2 года назад

    Cool video. I received the same stickers on Protra 800 but lab never notified me of A, any type of spacing issue (using a 220 back hassy for 120 film) and B that the sticker was in the frame. Boutique Film Lab is low on quality assuraance until after you raise an isse and then its oh yeah its your fault

  • @jvladcliff4083
    @jvladcliff4083 4 года назад

    I prefer 50D to the 800T. I use it in 35mm so it is probably easier to hand hold in the smaller format and get more DOF.

  • @Raevenswood
    @Raevenswood 4 года назад

    Hint hint 50iso really needs a tripod. I know you said it but if you aren’t down with the tripod then 50iso might not be your ticket. That shot of the pipe really shows the cool color pallet this film can get though. At 13-18$ a roll depending on where you get it I’m not seeing the benefit over other films like portra or even ektachrome e100. I feel like the cinestill is an option for harsh light situations where there is a ton of contrast but yeah like you said it seems kinda drab in overcast light.
