Looking forward seeing video beyond the (Crash n Burn). That’s always a bummer n low point ! You’ve got a good attitude guys. Pull up your boot straps n keep on keeping on (learning as you go). Cheers n looking forward to future videos from you guys plus seeing mom n dad ahead sail with you guys. Fair sailing ⛵️ Papa J
oh man im so sorry, i swapped from standard HD to SSd just for this reason I also have the mirrored on two other standard drives and im with you most of my vids are for my family and kids to look back on you guys got this !!!!
Thank you Kate and Mick. You two are a great team and you will overcome again as you have done through many obstacles to accomplish what you have already. It’s a great idea to create those extra videos you talked about. Hugs, mom
My Gosh! I am so impressed with you guys! What a crazy ride, from having 1 way tix to Grenada to La Cruz! What a gorgeous, old vessel. What a crazy refit! And, now you can sail? Considering the mountain you've climbed- I'm awed. The kids, your parents- what a ride! If I had not watched it- I wouldn't have believed it. Really. Keep it going, I'm in for the ride!
I’m totally invested! I will keep watching. Sorry you lost footage. Love to see a boat tour, interview the kids & ask their fav parts so far, least fav?
Thanks Cristi! You know what?! The kids filmed a day in the life from their perspective it was SO cute…but we lost the footage. They seemed to really enjoy doing it so I bet I can get them to do it again ;)
Such a dreadful feeling when you realise you've lost a load of work like that. Just chalking it up to experience and making sure you can't have it happen again is how I'd cope but it can't be easy working from a boat without reliable internet and without a cheap filer to copy everything to. I normally save your channel for peak viewing but had to catch up during my lunch break to make sure the boat is still in one piece and everyone is healthy. I hope you have a great New Year.
Dreadful, gut dropping feeling but it only lasts and beat and then we continue being focused on the now and the future. Appreciate the encouragement and the continued support Martin! “See” you next week!
So sorry to hear this guys!! Honestly though keep going because it really will be just a blip in the big picture! I love Vince’s comments btw 😉 Also love the new fancy intro - heck yes!! Sail strong Meraki! ⛵️
You guys are amazing. Sadness over loss is normal but the future remains and you have the character to carry on in the great adventure called life. Between the book of Malachi and the book of Matthew there is 400 years of lost data of what God was up to. But we know he was always at work. Your small entries in other places, than the amazing uTube videos, have kept us connected with you and knowing you are well and safe is what is most important.
Thanks guys, huge bummer but onwards and upwards! Honestly pretty happy with LaCie drives still, will probably keep using them and I am looking at an online back up. We aren’t always on the internet but we are when we upload videos so I’ll just make it part of the routine to back things up at the same time as when we’re uploading videos :) Any suggestions on a good cloud back up that isn’t too expensive?
That is a rough one, but it sounds like you are doing the right things. Keep working to recover the data, look for opportunities to make new content to bridge the gap, and learn from the mistake of not backing up your hard drive. I use the portable hard drives as my "working drives" to transfer files, then a combination of cloud drive and thumb drives for long term backup. Being out of "internet range" would probably make the cloud drive option not feasible / affordable for you, so you would want to look at another less expensive back up solution. For future episodes I would like to see more of Mick's handiwork, boat tour, top 5 or 10 things you are glad to have on the boat, top 5 or 10 things that did not work as well as you hoped, and updates on things you fixed / did to the boat and how they are working. Hope they can rover your data. Keep at it, you'll make it through this little bump in the road!
Love hearing what you’d like to see more of! Consider us on it! Do you have a suggestion for an inexpensive cloud drive? I’ve been looking at backblaze I think we will just make it part of the routine when we find internet for uploading videos to back up our drives online.
Take heart! View your data as temporarily unavailable. The experts in the Netherlands should be able to recover your data, if it is indeed the electronics board that has died. I have recovered the data from many spinning-disk, dead hard drives by simply swapping out the electronics board (sounds like they may have done that in Mexico) from an identical known good, drive, and I mean identical! Even the version number of the firmware has to be identical! I enjoy following your adventures! Keep up the good work and enjoy the experience. And, yes, that is right, only plug in your external drive when you are saving data to it, and then unplug it.
Thank you for the encouragement and for the knowledgeable expertise!! Fingers crossed we get the data back one day. We REALLY appreciate all the kind words it’s amazing what a pick me up this community offers!
Here with you for the journey. Gives us all something to look forward to when it eventually gets posted. 😎Very impressed with what you have accomplished in such a short time, thanks for sharing it.
Pfew, I thought your boat was confiscated or worse…..the data you lost on your La Cie drive is etched in your memory. No one can take that away from you. I read on another sailboat Vlog a good saying…..”Die with memories, not dreams.” …..you have made lots of memories. We are envious of you sailing in a beautiful and warm part of the world. Stay safe and I hope you can recover those data some day. Happy sailing
Wonderful words to live by! We grew so much as a family and as sailors coming down the Baja it was such a special time for us. We will never forget it.
Doubling down on what Shawna said (PS. after being lazy for almost a year I am backing up my hard drive. Literally. Right. Now. - so thank you for that 🙂). Love, good thoughts and prayers from Candice, the kids and I ❤
So disappointing for you. I was looking forward to the sail down to Mexico! But like you said in the scheme of things it’s only a small portion of the journey. You mentioned you might be able to put something together using bits from your iPhone. Can I suggest a summary narration of your journey down the coast and entering Mexico: sea state, sailing conditions, challenges, highlights, procedure upon entering Mexico.
We were so excited to share the EPIC journey down the Baja. Absolutely amazing sailing and so much beauty. Hopefully we can do it justice in the coming episodes with little bits of footage and story telling.
you rock Frank! It was a huge bummer but spoiler alert... Lacie recovered EVERYTHING (it took us about 6 months to get the drive back though). Once day we will lap back and edit that footage because coming down the Baja was a really special experience!
@@CruisingMeraki Oh golly, thanks for that info and I'm _so_ happy for you! All those carefully selected memories, you have them back! Your story is whole. Yes, a special series 'Our Baja Journey: The Lost Tapes' or something would be awesome. However, I _am_ aware that sailing family channels, being soo busy, often fall well over a year behind real time, so (in fairness) I won't expect anything on that soon. A surprise for your fans some day?! Thanks also for the compliment. 🙂
What do you want to see more of in our videos?
Please keep going with the channel! Really love your content, and your little family!!
Thanks so much for the encouragement Susan! Wow what a great group of people following along with us 💕

That's a bummer you lost your footage but you'll get more. Don't get discouraged! We will keep following your channel and adventures😄
Thanks Tanya! Man, after all the amazing support we are so encouraged 💕

Wow what a shocker to loose all that data. I hope Holland will fixit.

Sorry that this happened to you and glad you're not giving up making videos. What's the hard drive solution for future?

La Cruz does not have a bay, it is inland about 4 miles. Were you maybe in the bay at Puerto Vallarta?
La Cruz is a small coastal town in Banderas Bay :)

Dreadfully unfortunate. No point in making a speech at this point; I'm just glad and grateful that you kept this great vlogging channel going.
