  • Per a few requests I come to you with a tutorial on how to remove and replace the time chain tensioner on a VW/Audi 1.8T. In the video I go over both methods of removal, removing just the intake cam and removing both cams as well as setting the timing once everything is back in. If there is anything else you would like me to cover let me know. Thanks for watching and consider checking out my Instagram to see the progress of my Audi TT.

timing explanation was a fail. Exhaust cam gets one tooth to the left of the cam bearing cap arrow while the intake cam is 12 o'clock with the arrow as they will tdc when the tensioner is fully expanded. There must be 16 rollers in between the square notches in the cams. You will 100% have an unfixable camshaft correlation fault if you run it this way. Anaerobic sealer on the mating surface of the cam bridge or you will have a leak into your timing cover. 28lbs/in or 9lbs/ft on the bearing caps in a specific sequence as well. Many things wrong here bud

I've rebuilt a couple heads using exactly the procedures in the video, all with much more power than stock without a single issue. What is your source for cam cap torque? It's 7ft/lbs ( 10nm).

Coup I take the tensioner out and keep the chain on the teeth and put it back like that because mine is slapping apart from this the old girl is sweet as a nut

@bloodyskidderz2221 if you do it very carefully. But if it's slapping I would change the chain as well. It's not too much more for a kit that comes with a chain

@DubKorpsGLI yes cheers but what's the best way to put it back do I make a mark below and line the cam teeth back to that exact mark below

Wasn't meant to be enthralling, was meant to be informative. Thanks for the feedback.
