Bishop Barron and Jordan Peterson youtube videos were the direct cause of my conversion. I am 30 yo and went to church for the first time one month ago and been going every Sunday since. I have never been happier in my life. God bless Bishop Barron and Jordan Peterson. Thank you!
I am a Catholic convert whose journey started with Jordan Peterson, so I really appreciate you having these conversations so more like me can traverse that gap.
@BISH0P ROBERT BARRON Great effort, the difference between 0 and O are miniscule ;) I hope some day you will put such an effort to finding the Truth instead of scamming people using their sympathy, even using orphans and name of honorable man. It is really difficult not to get angry and even wish well to people like you, but i can take it as learning experience. Hey Barron,- Jordan Peterson is a joke. The only thing that attracts you his the many subscribers he has. All the lonely people are looking for a cult to follow like the idiot trump followers. Watch fox news. Believe Bartron Trump speaks 7 languages. Barron doesn't speak 1 language. He's a Catatonic Mute. A dummy like his Dad. Wake up idiots.
Bishop, I was raised Catholic and was confirmed in the watered down Catholicism that you mentioned in your conversation with Dr. Peterson. I just discovered you on your podcast with Lex Fridman, who I admire, and then again with the Shia LaBeouf interview on his new movie "Padre Pio." Now I can't stop watching the Word On Fire videos. The day I watched the Shia LaBeouf interview I bought a rosary and the next day went to mass and confession which I haven't done in more than 15 years. The emotional and religious experiences that have occurred to me have been profound. I felt the true love and peace of Jesus Christ in my heart. I have also been listening to Dr. Peterson for several years now and have read his "12 Rules of Life." Dr. Peterson is another man I admire greatly and what you two were talking about with young men and adventure resonated with me 100%. I am also a recovered alcoholic (2.8 years sober) and through sobriety had found some small understanding of God. I also really resonated with Shia's story when he was at rock bottom. I have since been searching for meaning and to be closer to God, and had never felt closer than when I listened to Dr. Peterson and others with similar thought processes. I think what you are doing is the bridge needed for people like me which, I think, much of my generation is like. Thank you for bridging the gap for me and allowing my to open my heart to God and recognize Jesus Christ as my lord an savior. May God bless you, Bishop.
Two such insightful scholars. Jordan Peterson has helped me to uncover parts of my self that I didn’t know existed by paying close attention to my words and actions. Once I better understood the self, Bishop Barron has helped me to pour out the best of myself in service to others through a deeper devotion to God. To surrender self to a higher reality. Both have brilliant books, RUclips channels, and lectures. I have such gratitude for these two men of God.
@@DarkAngel-cj6sx They are extraordinary thinkers and teachers. I often fall short of the goal, but I confess my shortcomings and move toward the objective as best I can. Life is in the effort.
Love you both great men 💗🙏 Jordan Peterson has Also been a great Light in my life. Bishop Barron Please keep making your deeper longer full rigorous explorations of our Faith and sharing other writers we should read to understand our Faith more richly. You've helped me so much to overcome so many things in my life. Also Bishop Barron thank you and deepening my Faith, I am leaning into discerning if Gods Call for me is to serve at a deeper more serious level. Thank you so much.
This stopped me in my tracks... "You can ask for all kinds of particular things, and you may or may not get them, that's always up to God. But I can guarantee you, you'll be led closer to Christ". Thank you, Future Saint Bishop Barron.
Praying The rosary has become the highlight of my day 🙏🏻 and many times it gets me out of physical pain I'm in and has a therapeutic effect on my mind also.I always ask all the angels & Saints to pray with me too.
Great show and very insightful. I am a Catholic and went to Catholic school from kindergarten through my freshman year of high school and it is true that religion was not treated the same as the other subjects. Thank you very much for helping to turn things around. God bless!
Dr. Peterson has led me to God. I don't think there's many observations and arguments between Bishop Barron and Peterson that are mutually exclusive. Both seem to approach the same destination through different paths, which establishes so much more confidence in the truths that each of them disseminate.
What I like most is Sam Harris and Bishop meet each other. For reconciliation to my question about religion and science or in the words of Bishop "not overstepping each other" but always carries the search of truth whether unknown or otherwise. Because I see in Sam questions he couldn't answer but won't leave that without sufficient explanation. And I see in Bishop the drive for statement based on sufficient explanation. Because JP and Bishop are appreciative of things that we call archetype in civilization. And I want it to be exposed to the assault of questions by Sam. Maybe I'm just lazy to explore on what Bishop could have said in response to Sam's supposed questions, but it feels satisfied if they could meet each other online. Thanks
Growing up in the 60’s we went to Latin mass ( and ate our breakfast after mass because we fasted before receiving communion ) daily before starting our school day. We were taught by the “sisters”, saw our priest in the cafeteria and at recess at times. It was so beneficial to out souls! We as children soaked this in and were very reverent and respectful of our faith. So important to keep nurturing young people all the way through the school years so that they learn as much about their faith as possible. The knowledge that Bishop Barron has is astounding!
As a practicing Catholic married to a practicing Methodist, I've been asked by Protestant friends the same question about the representation of Christ on the Cross. Not to take away from the Bishop's wonderful answer but one answer that has worked for me is that when I walk into a McDonalds, a Wendys, a movie theater, a Jiffy Lube, etc. the first thing I see are the prices for their goods and services. Their is no question as to what the price is, no negotiation, no dickering. When I walk into my Catholic Church I am reminded starkly by the Crucifix the price of my salvation and it is humbling. I did nothing to deserve this, the price has been paid. After my answer, my Protestant friends usually gravely nod their heads.
For what it’s worth, I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon), and out of many talks I’ve listened to over my years, yours was one of the most profound. Keep at it Bishop. We are all trying to be more like Christ.
@P A I feel like there is a gotcha question in there... That being said, I also lost my faith but settled back to Christ in the LDS church. I also love Catholicism. I'm aware the KJV isn't perfect, but I also can't seem to find a Catholic consensus on what is the "Catholic Bible". The JST is very interesting and it's too bad the work was cut short because of murder and persecution.
Thank you Bishop Barron and Brandon, i really enjoyed listening to both of you . I just love to listen to you Bishop Barron, GOD bless you abundantly, and stay safe. ➕❤
A component that was not mentioned in the discussion about good and evil (Cane and Able) is the role unconditional love plays in a person's life. The absence of real unconditional love feeds anger and resentment. A person that doesn't know and feels that kind of love often, doesn't feel deserving of it and rejects. The void that is left as a result is filled with evil.
Praise the lord for the availability of this amazingly beautiful content. We all get to enjoy and most importantly learn from some of the most important intellectuals in the world. 😊
I agree on the high moral challenge. Set the bar higher and our young people will reach for it. My daughter is learning Latin, Greek, and French or summary list is extraordinary.
This is very interesting. I'm glad you decided to do this. I listened to the podcast at least 8 or 9 times and you turned me on to Origen, as well as put me in the mood to reread Augustine's Confessions and to begin reading City of God. It will be interesting to hear what new thoughts you have had about the conversation yourself. It was certainly full of tremendous value to myself.
At -47:00 in the discussion with Dr. Jordan Peterson; we are curious about bishops answer: “and that’s how Christianity was born” was his answer. • However, the question was more about: how do we find our own value in aiming towards the ideal (because the ideal is wounded and deteriorating); as young people are leaving the church. • an incredibly valuable and eye opening discussion; all with respect. We > I
If Jordan Peterson caved in and converted, he would be one of the best theologians of all time. Like a modern day Augustine. His ability to grasp these concepts with his background in psychology and philosophy would be a great way to bring out the string of reason in the modernist and the post modernist. In other words…lets pray for him.
Watching any of these discussions on youtube, then watching what passes for "discussion" or "analysis" on TV shows today, reveals the latter for the pablum it truly is.
I admire you greatly, Bishop Barron. You are extremely bright, and a soul of deep Faith. I bought "After Humanity" and received "CS Lewis' book "The Abolition of Man." I started my quest reading Lewis' book and was at sea. It was way over my little head, unlike yours. I put it down and waited until I had adequate quiet time, to digest "After Humanity." Fascinating. No wonder you are drawn to both books. They address what is going on with what appears to be the drift of the "nones." "Keep it simple, stupid." Subjectivism is the mantra for today. Objectivism, dogma, and the tao are out the window. "Don't patronize me with that nonsense." Please don't think that represents my way of thinking. I am drinking deeply from the well.
As I've done some thinking, I now believe evil being a privatio boni is one of the most important and daring metaphysical statements that we make. It says even in the face of unbelievable suffering in the face of insurmountable evil, that the contingent ground for the universe is still good at its core. Everything if it gives right praise can be turned to the true the good and the beautiful. When you look at the world it almost looks like that can't possible be the case, but that's the daring aspect of faith.
Father never disappoints. I wish that I could bring him into my children’s life. I’ve offered Dr Peterson’s book and they know I am Catholic (to what they consider an “extraordinary” degree) but I cannot bring them in !
I really enjoy both Bishop Barron and Jordan Peterson. Thank you for sharing this great content with us. God bless Word on Fire and all who prepare this content for us!

36:00 this point about the archetype becoming true, I remember seeing a clip of Peterson talking about this and crying because the realization of when the literary world and the real world touching is too much to bear, I wish i remember where I found that clip....
Father’s summary on the Resurrection at about 34:00 is tremendous. I often tell my inquisitive friends who question my Catholicism to read about the Eucharist. Now I’m going to include this explanation by Bishop Barron on the Resurrection.
Bishop compared Peterson to John the Baptist and I immediately thought about how he baptized people in the Jordan River. Quite the coincidence honestly considering how many people Peterson has brought back towards Religious thinking, if not outright conversion.
That point at 10:50 reminds me of Camille Paglia's point (with which I wholeheartedly agree) the the bible can ABSOLUTELY be beloved as a work of incredibly compelling literature!
These dialogues are incredibly important, I think. I hope you do as many of them as you can before any tragedy. Sometimes I find an author who wrote one or two books and died young. Their works are insightful and valuable. But they simply didn't have time to write out everything they could offer the world. Please don't let that happen. These dialogues are not one-time things. They will hold the same timeless weight for my generation as books have for all those before us.
Bishop, The best answer to the last question for her Protestant friends, is, because "we preach Christ crucified. A stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to gentiles."
If the young person didn’t have the opportunity to put the body of Christ in his own mouth but received it in humility on his/her knees it would have the greatest impact on Holiness of Communion.
The Cross is an example for us to follow. Unfortunately today, we put the cross aside. We only love the resurrected Jesus which is all good but be careful. Let’s not forget that the resurrected Jesus still holds the marks of Passion. This is what so many of Christ’s hearers failed to understand. - from St Veronica Giulani, Italian Capuchin Poor Clares nun and mystic in the 17-18th century.
Well said. Bishop Fulton Sheen, in his book Life of Christ begins with a beautiful explanation of why Christ and the cross must not be separated, but the two must go together. My wife and I started reading his book, and for her birthday last year I got her a small gold crucifix that she can wear around her neck. She was of a Baptist, then Methodist background, and was used to ornamental crosses usually being bare, but she very much loves her crucifix and says she wouldn’t have a cross any other way. It’s painful to think of what we did to our Lord, but our hearts are filled with Love every time we remember His sacrifice for us. God bless.
Loved that opportunity to hear Bishop Barron go into the issue of whether people always seek the good or not. I suspect Dr Peterson didn't truly hear Bishop Barron's point during the interview. It is probably a novel idea to him - and it's certainly new to me to hear Bishop Barron talk about it as a metaphysical argument about the structure of the will. Once again, Catholicism has thought it through and come up with something really rational.
I enjoyed watching it! I would like to say something on that most people listened the sorrow misteries: I don't think that there is pesimistic or negative thinking or behavior on that. That would be awful, especially for teenagers or for those who are new to catholic faith. All the goods!
I appreciated Peterson's reference to Cain and Abel in response to Barron on the topic of good and wicked man. I used to feel sorry for Cain, but after putting things into context of the full Gospel message, changed my mind. Undoubtedly, Cain and Abel had both heard the account from Adam and Eve about how the fall came about. When God confronted the situation, they were wearing fig leaves, but fig leaves, just like Cain's herbs, vegetables, and grains were inadequate, much the way our works are inadequate. Sin is very serious and Adam and Eve learned just how serious it was when God provided them with animal skins for coverings. In essence, they didn't understand just how naked they were. The provision for their sin required a blood sacrifice. One could assert that Cain did not acknowledge this and offered a bloodless sacrifice of his works. While he could have traded his vegetables for a lamb, he considered his works good enough. As often is the case, one sin leads to another when we refuse to acknowledge and properly respond to the serious nature of sin. Instead of repenting and correcting his mistake with the proper offering, and aligning his ways with God's prescription for sin, Cain rebelled, compounding his sin by killing Abel in defiance, jealousy, rage, and revenge. Ultimately, it took the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ--a sacrifice once for all time, not requiring repetition--to PERMANENTLY REMOVE AND FULLY ATONE FOR our sin, NOT JUST COVER IT temporarily from year-to-year. Like Abel, we must recognize our salvation comes from acknowledging sin's seriousness. God's ultimate prescription to cure our otherwise terminal disease of sin was provided through Christ, not works. When we choose to follow that prescription, acknowledging that we have no righteousness of our own and that Christ (not works) is the ONLY and ALL-SUFFICIENT atonement for our sins, Christ's righteousness is imputed to us for salvation because HE is worthy (because our works could never be adequate to earn salvation, ie, nothing we can do could ever put God in our debt). Cain downplayed sin, insisting God acknowledge his "fig leaves", while Abel acknowledged the seriousness of sin, his own insufficiency, and God's perfect way.
Regarding Peterson thinking Cain is an example of someone not seeking the hood at all I think Bishop should have referred to Girard’s mimetic sacrifice. Cain was motivated by a desire to resolve his negative feeling through violence. He felt conflicted and anguished and the violence was an attempt to escape/resolve that negative feeling, seeking an internal state of harmony. He was violent because he wanted to feel good again. It was at least desiring good for himself.
Now we’re connecting the dots between taking the sacraments seriously. 1 hour confession windows, communion in the hand, handed out the door, by a lady in a Garfield sweater and Tevas.
I first heard Jordan Peterson on Sam Harris’ podcast. I’ve been with him ever since. What do we do in Ireland with our experience of the Catholic theocracy that prevailed here? I’m not cherry picking the bad stuff. The levels of depravity attained by uniformed members of the Church was and still is staggering. There can be no blind faith ever again. Our eyes are open and the view is sobering. Love you videos Bishop. ☘️🇮🇪
I must say l agree with Jordan Peterson on this one. I do believe there is at the end of all of our basic natures that ultimately determines who we are. Choosing good over evil or vise visa. Achieving the ultimate good but only for oneself is not born of God, and will come under judgment. Loving one's neighbor as 'as much as oneself' is the basic qualification of altruism and is the LOVE requirement of a Righteous God.
Given the fact that we are not asked whether we want to be born or not; given the fact that life means usually more suffering than real joy; given the fact that there is real injustice and evil which is never (fully) compensated for during lifetime; and given the fact of death, if there is no resurrection and equity in some kind of hereafter, we who beget children are murderers for we condemn our children to death. WHY DO CATHOLICS FOCUS SO MUCH IN THE CROSS? For me is that I don’t ever want to forget the true Sacrifice of Our Lord. Unless, we realiza that is for us and bc of us that He suffered a terrible death on the Cross, we might miss it’s TRUE meaning. Meditation in His Passion, His Cross, is a fountain of blessings . The Cross teaches us so much. At the foot ofHis Cross, we are drenched w His Graces and healing and are brought to perfection in His Image as we are cleansed and healed. I truly believe a more profound teaching of His Cross, His Passion, our churches would flourish. The Cross is The Tree of Life. I WOULD LOVE BISHOP BARRÓN TO COVER THIS SUBJECT. In my experience sharing my Love for meditation on His Passion, is has a contagious effect. It’s like finding that Pearl of Great Value. So many Graces, so much Wisdom that pour upon those who humbly kneel at the foot of The Cross
See I wish bishop Barron said some of these things to Jordan Peterson. People recognize Peterson is really good but still not going far enough and they want bishop Barron to complete what Peterson is missing.
I watched this and then the Jordan Peterson conversation. At some point, it seemed to me that Peterson became a seeker, almost a seminarian, asking questions of his spiritual director, Bishop Barron. So poignant. Beautiful stuff coming to us from Word on Fire.
There is talk of refusing to give Joe Biden the eucharist because of his stance on abortion. Anyone who is pro choice is in mortal sin and should not receive the eucharist. What are your thoughts on this topic Bishop Barron.
@MrWooster Well thank you for the well wishes. I as a catholic have marching orders sent to me by my lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Let all you do, do it in love. :Love your brother as your self. It is in these marching orders that I believe Joe Biden should not receive the eucharist. For Joe is a just another layperson. The same as I am.and my brother. Now if my brother was personally responsible for killing 4,500,000 babies a year, I wouldn't want him receiving the eucharist either. You see the second day of Joe's presidency he started the funding back for abortions around the world. Therefore is personally responsible for those deaths. The only president who stopped the funding was Donald Trump. Excepting the eucharist is a privilege and is voluntary. He should have known that by signing the order to kill 4,500,000 babies a year he should not receive the eucharist. He is grown man, not a child. Me protesting is not out of judgement. It is out of fact. I love my brother and I want him to return to a state of grace. If I do not protest I am not following my lords commands. Nor am I a rational man. If it is news to you that he has taken these actions to fund and therefore kill the unborn. May this news not trouble you brother for we are all on a journey of seeking the lord with all of our heart. And those who know him serve him with all of their hearts.
I’m glad he expounded on the question of whether even the most evil person is acting out of perceived good. I can understand why Peterson was struggling w/that.
Most insightful part of this for me personally as a philosopher of religion/"theologian": 32:31-37:39. It reminds me of a former teacher's modal logic, which precisely addresses the dilemma of the religious: to attend to possibilities on a cosmic scale. So, with regard to the belief concerning Jesus's divinity, it's not how his person conforms to our understanding of humanity and divinity. It is the exact opposite: Jesus’ person tests our understanding, puts it into question, as it were. “[W]e might say that to call Christ ‘divine’ has things the wrong way round. An independent definition of divinity is impossible for the Christian; rather, ‘Jesus the Christ’ is what ‘divine’ means” (J.C. McClelland, _Pluralism Without Relativism: Religious Studies à la Mode_).
Okay, *obviously* I'm not a trained theologian -- but as with the Bishop's idea about Universalism ("We can reasonably assume there is universal salvation") you can do the same thing here with Peterson's argument: "We can reasonably assume that there is a hell reserved for those who are truly malignant, and Cain embodies this."
Well Aaron, I never said "reasonably assume..." I said that one may reasonably hope that all will be saved. There is a world of difference between those two claims.
Father Barron, I would really love to hear your commentary on the music album "Everywhere at the End of Time". I know you like to analyze what young people are fascinated by, so you'll like this. It's about dementia, aging, and death.
On Mrs. Peterson’s side of the relationship with Mary in the rosary devotion I have to think her being a professional massage therapist lends itself to a tactile sensitivity to the act of the counting out the prayers and minding the Mysteries on beads.
Thank you! The JP - BB discussion was my favorite of all the discussion both "missionaries" had with other people! There's just a small feedback, for all Brandon & Bishop Barron talks: the discussion feels a little unended every time, it feels like a "thank you, Bishop Barron" is missing, as a closure. Besides that, awesome content, THANK YOU!
My experience is a lot of young men are having a hard time developing a career and getting homes and staying families and they feel shame and out if place on the church. Basically they see themselves as too low a status so they don't want to go Somewhere that makes that so readily known
I am starting to like B. Barron a lot. Before didnt have any reason for not to do so, other than the usccb company and that incident of ' fullness of salvation ', which by the way Maria Simma confirms in her testimonies. Jordan is very important in modern evangelization and the Bishop recognizes and respects it.
I very much enjoyed the discussion. Just one thing is missing in the dialog. The Spiritual aspects that people encounter when they connect with God, Angles, Saints, and our Blessed Mother Mary. The world is full of testimonials. If the church doesn't include the reality of what happens after a personal connection. Then the people listening are left with wonder and nothing to look forward to...
i know how to bring young people back because it happened to me. how can you prove what will happen to me before i die. i mean, respectfully, there is no way to know until i die and then its too late to say hey come on now. you were lying. please address this sir. no disrespect. you are one of my favs of all time. great voice pace and patience. we all love you man, i mean bishop sir. this i think will help the kids. this generation, like Jesus of Nazareth said, wants a sign. i dont think thats blashphemous. it only been 2000 years after all. thank you and i know this wont go to your head but you are on of the best ever. keep on truckin friend
Trying to reconcile Church teaching with the scientific knowledge is a challenge. Historically, it's the case of Thomas. Bishop said it's the overstepping each other is the problem. How to reconcile is the question I couldn't answer yet consistently as of this moment as attempting it landed me to a lot of contradictions. Intellectually exciting but really speaking very frustrating in terms of the impact of being unable to arrive at the final answer for reconciliation.
I never found an issue reconciling modern science with The Catholic Church. Mainly because they are so different in terms of what they are aiming for try to compare them or them is pointless. The only ones who have an issue reconciling them is are ironically Fundamentalist's (who are simply heretics) and hardline Materialist/Scientismist Atheist's, who both feel it all the Books of The Bible must be taken literally. They are literally the same person from a psychological perspective. Some of these tales are older than written language, they were never meant to be taken with a scientific mindset nor did they ever claim to be. Something that Augustine talks about in his own writings. It requires nuance to look at the bigger picture. But people don't want nuance they want simplicity, which is why the science vs religion debate is so prevalent; it is easy to understand and requires very little actual work.
Have you thought about having a conversation with Richard Rohr, NT Wright, Father James Martin, Father Casey Cole from Breaking in the Habit, or a liberal Christian theologian?
@@benhutchinson9808 Neither is Fr. Casey. I wasn't thinking only in terms of theologians. I'm curious what your opinion of James Martin is though. You sound like you take issue with him. Sincerelt curious, not trying to be a viper. I ask bc he always seems like a very pleasant and wise man to me.
@@alexanderangelo7284 oh you're right, I misread your original comment, my apologies for that. I wouldn't say I have any more issues with Fr James Martin than I do with many other clerics within the church - those that would discard Catholic doctrine in favour of marrying the spirit of the age is an issue in many places, unfortunately. Martin is just particularly vocal about doing so. Plus, he really butchered the Latin in that scene he was in for the Irishman, and for that I will of course always hold a grudge 😂
The way to bring people to the Cross is to not apologize for the Cross. That is to say, we need not be apologists for that which we believe. Simply believe it and proclaim it unabashedly and let the Way of the Cross meet its opposition in the market place without shame. Believe it. Live it. Proclaim it. The Way, the Truth and the Life.
I’ve never before understood Catholic fascination with Mary and the rosary. Now, I get it. “Mary always leads you to Christ.” That makes sense to me. Although, I am a born again Christian. I had a St. Paul type conversion experience, and have been in deep, personal relationship with Jesus ever since. So, I never considered the notion that someone might need Mary to “lead” them to Christ. But now, I see how helpful that would be. I wonder, is there any tendency for Catholics who have become secure in their relationship with Jesus to back off the ritualized emphasis on Mary and the rosary? If not, how do they see the value of continuing with it?
It's that many people don't understand the faith period. Few, if any priests provide catechism at mass, and the small amount of those who do present it in lofty, vague terms not so easily grasped by most. This is it. If only people understood that God is not a bearded man in the sky condemning others to hell, much more could be done in terms of reaching people. If only people knew the significance of God's telling Moses: I am.
I have been thinking this for years. We have been dumbing down the faith for years instead of teaching it in an accessible way that still brings people up. There is a huge intellectual tradition in the Church that is so rich but we dumb it down so much.
Young people not wanting to be a part of childish religion is exactly why they are running away from it, Catholicism needs to be presented more maturely and seriously as it should always be. Why would anyone want to take seriously something that is not taken seriously or presented by others
@@kelechukwuanozyk7605 yes but it’s harder to truly come to know Christ if those presenting Him are being too lazy or giving a watered down version Also simply loving Jesus is not going to keep one catholic I can think of a number of people I know that love Christ but are catholic
12:03 I disagree with Father Barron and Peterson on their point about Hitchens. The ability he had to dismiss the Bible (and any other holy book that he also dismissed…) was a very needed space for followers of Christ. And I’m saying that as one who wouldn’t dismiss The Book(s), traditions or rituals, however, I just believe we were blessed to have a fellow like Hitchens around to see it and call it the way he did, I believe the spirit of it was to prevent more injustices in our world, and to prevent folks from just blindly following what is said to them without embarking on a journey as to know what they should follow.
The authority of scripture is a huge problem in the church and even more outside of the church! Here is a man who has studied man from man’s perspective (at an authority level) acknowledging and defending God’s revelation of man for man is powerfully valuable to everyone trying to understand their life and how to live that life well. In my opinion he brings his authority as an expert on man as an weighty endorsement of the scriptures viewpoint of man’s plight! This is the church’s territory! In fact the Catholic Church has all that he (Jordan) has and even more! I believe Word on Fire is challenging the laity to engage unbelievers as he does but church leadership (Rome, Seminaries, etc) does not as a whole! Telling (living it out before and in others lives) someone how Christ saves us daily is powerful! In a word discipleship!

@@6williamson thanks Peter your message has been very important to my reaction. Ignoring as you suggested. God bless you.
Bishop,
I was raised Catholic and was confirmed in the watered down Catholicism that you mentioned in your conversation with Dr.
This sounds extraordinary

God bless!
I would really like for Bishop Barron and Jordan Peterson to meet in person and have a conversation someday when Covid is over.
Me too.
Dr. Peterson has led me to God. I don't think there's many observations and arguments between Bishop Barron and Peterson that are mutually exclusive. Both seem to approach the same destination through different paths, which establishes so much more confidence in the truths that each of them disseminate.
Peterson and Barron have gotten me back to Catholic Mass!!!
You are a big surprise funky boy
Thanks
I love Bishop Barron and Jordan Peterson. God bless them both. So good.
May Jesus continue to shine his light on Jordan Peterson and some day soon may he find Joy in accepting Jesus as his personal Lord and Saviour☆

Thank you for all that you do Bishop Barron.
I admire you greatly. God bless 🙏
For what it’s worth, I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon), and out of many talks I’ve listened to over my years, yours was one of the most profound. Keep at it Bishop. We are all trying to be more like Christ.
I too am LDS. Along with Bishop Baker, last November I find Dr. Jordan Peterson. His 13 lectures on the Psychology of the Old Testament is fantastic!
Oops …Bishop Barron
@P A I feel like there is a gotcha question in there...
That being said, I also lost my faith but settled back to Christ in the LDS church. I also love Catholicism. I'm aware the KJV isn't perfect, but I also can't seem to find a Catholic consensus on what is the "Catholic Bible". The JST is very interesting and it's too bad the work was cut short because of murder and persecution.
@P A thank you for the insight. I try and read different versions of the Word so as to better understand the context and meaning.
Listening to this, I can't help but think of the wonderful sermon the Bishop gave yesterday on Job.
Was Jordan Peterson who brought me back to my catholic faith. God bless him.
Thank you Bishop Barron and Brandon, i really enjoyed listening to both of you . I just love to listen to you Bishop Barron, GOD bless you abundantly, and stay safe. ➕❤
Happy Fathers day Bishop go go go GOD bless always..!
This needed revisiting. Happy to listen.

Re: the Rosary - "What you hold in your hand matters"
Once again, this points to the value of the embodiment of the Eucharist.
When an educated and qualified person says “um” in mid sentence, it is quite revealing in the sincerity of the individual.

I agree. Thank you!

What a wonderful coincidence! I’ve been listening to Jordan Peterson so I’m quite interested to listen to this!
More excited for this than any other show/series out there right now :)
This is such a brilliant discussion. Thank you both.
It is astonishing when I realize that these Giants of our culture are engaged in dialogue and its the Internet which brought them together
When you look at the world it almost looks like that can't possible be the case, but that's the daring aspect of faith.
and thank you Father on clarification on our focus on the Passion of Our Lord. Simple and yes very easy to understand and accept ...

I really enjoy these discussions. Thank you

Also Bishop Your analysis of Culture Society and issues in the world have been extremely helpful
God bless.
I am really grateful for this video. The entire two hour discussion was simply great but it was a bit hard to digest every single presented thought

@@mmccrownus2406 Yeah, that's the tough part, isn't it.
Any help or prayers would be appreciated.
It’s not about what they say ; it’s about what they do !!!! “Their Fruits “!!!!!
I enjoyed watching it!
I would like to say something on that most people listened the sorrow misteries:
I don't think that there is pesimistic or negative thinking or behavior on that.
I'm starting going back to my faith thanks to jordan peterson and even jonathan pageau.
Thanks 🙏
I had a similar impression of Sam Harris as being cavalier too.
@MrWooster IF he was a whore and was about to be stoned to death your statement would be relevant.
Pray for JP
i know how to bring young people back because it happened to me. how can you prove what will happen to me before i die. i mean, respectfully, there is no way to know until i die and then its too late to say hey come on now. you were lying. please address this sir. no disrespect. you are one of my favs of all time. great voice pace and patience. we all love you man, i mean bishop sir. this i think will help the kids. this generation, like Jesus of Nazareth said, wants a sign. i dont think thats blashphemous. it only been 2000 years after all. thank you and i know this wont go to your head but you are on of the best ever. keep on truckin friend
Pray about it :) a lot of my intellectual struggles with my faith were resolved when I asked God to make it clear to me!
Have you thought about having a conversation with Richard Rohr, NT Wright, Father James Martin, Father Casey Cole from Breaking in the Habit, or a liberal Christian theologian?
Not sure if NT Wright would be called a liberal, but I assume it would depend on their schedules.
I would love a conversation between Rohr and Barron. They are two of my favourite Christian theologians!
Fr James Martin is anything but a theologian.
Who apologizes for the Cross?
You don't back off because you can never have enough of Jesus
your body is a vehicle for your soul, perfect your life and your soul will return to the Spiritual world...
Young people who love Jesus remain Catholics. Those that leave don't know Jesus.
@@kelechukwuanozyk7605 yes but it’s harder to truly come to know Christ if those presenting Him are being too lazy or giving a watered down version
Also simply loving Jesus is not going to keep one catholic I can think of a number of people I know that love Christ but are catholic

Be the change that you want to see.
BTW are you Catholic?

Does anybody know if the discussion on The Chosen he participated in can be watched anywhere?
I'd like to know as well.
The church needs good prophets. Our church leaders also need support and encouragement. Remember Hebrews 13:17. Its a hard job
