  • (Khmer: ភ្នំដា) Phnom Da is the name of the mount to the south of the town of Angkor Borei. Currently, two temples still remain standing on this mount, and several caves have been found around its base. The principal temple, now known as Phnom Da temple, was built in the 11th century on foundations remaining from the Funan period. On the northeast slope of the mount is another temple named Asram Maha Rosei. It is a temple built of unusual material for Khmer construction. A very hard basalt stone has only been used in two temples in Cambodia, and it is one of a very few temples in Cambodia that has an internal “womb” (Garbhagṛha) where the priests (Pujari) go inside to make ceremonial actions.

Thanks for uploading this one too (Phnom Da temple). I am working on my ancestors ancient Temples/Prasat history. Hopely, able to be gathered and saved for the new generation to come. I am also documented the Khmer Empires temple in Thailand too. In Loas only one, that is very easy. Happy traveling to both of you ✌

Thank you! I am not sure when I will get a chance to visit Phnom Da. I am curious about it because of all the temples in Cambodia, it is contructed (I believe) with a lot of Granite... more so than most. Do you know where the Granite was incorporated? And how much?

Thank you for taking the time to answer me. I’ve done a little research since I messaged you. It turns out the temple itself is not necessarily built with any more granite than other temples. It is built on a granite Hill. But that is interesting in itself. I do appreciate your reply again.
