Out of the past and into what? Modernism, liberalism and globalist/anti-national foreign ideology. Modern Ireland is a filthy, disgusting and degenerate nation. We have thousands upon thousands of Irish homeless in nearly every big town at this rate, and with them hordes of foreigners, making each town less and less Irish as the days go by. And sadly, the deracinated Gaels among us merely sneer at you and call you ''racist'' or ''backward'' if you so much as critique our ethnic replacement and the Americanised and Anglicised modern social thinking that infects our nation currently.
I found this so poignant. He's talking about a time past, and I read his novels at a different time and place, while traveling and living the life I imagined from reading JP Donleavy and Kerouac and Castaneda and a hundred others. And now I'm an old man. Sic transit gloria mundi.
Lawrence of Arabia was born in Tremadog in North Wales, not Killua Castle. His probable father, Thomas Chapman, was related to the Chapmans of Killua (and eventually succeeded to the baronetcy) but never lived there. The Castle, by the way, has now been wonderfully restored.
I’m currently reading ‘The history of the Ginger Man’, it casts an incredible light on so many aspects of life in Ireland, New York and parts of Britain. They don’t make characters the likes of Crist, Behan and Donleavy himself any more alas.
My copy of the Ginger Man got me in trouble in my school days got me some street cred ail the same I have an old battered copy by my bad to this day I have no more heroes any more living ones I can think of alas
Perhaps over stated, valuable? It depends, clever humour and wry observations of personalities, the incongruities of life, morals and hypocrisies, but is this art? You decide.
An excellent video...
Anyone who can't appreciate it has my sympathy .
Thanks you for this and so much interesting stuff on your channel.
3:05 that lad was a permanent fixture on Grafton street late 80s through to mid 90s. I think he passed away about 20 years ago sadly.
Brilliant. Thank you.
Thank you! Was thinking of this doc when I heard he died.
This is an excellent documentary and provides a very interesting glimpse of Ireland as it was more than 25 years ago moving out of the past.
Aye,

He ain't dead, nonsense. He's learning a new language.
Interesting what he says about Catholicism
Interesting. I hope America doesn't take 130 years to get its shit together. Europe needs it to stay united and democratic too.
