Hello! I came by your channel yesterday, and I just want to leave a comment about Monte Cristo. 'Shawkshank' was my favorite movie growing up and I was kicking my legs thinking about Andy after about 200 pages in Monte Cristo. But the book has so much more fun. And this may sound a little stupid because I'm only in my early 20s, but when I was reading Monte Cristo I felt like a child reading an adventure story again. I thought 9-year-old me would have absolutely adored the book. It's that kind of revenge story full of dramatic, magical, and 'cool' hero stuff, and I was reading the Penguin classic copy so it was Robin Buss' translation, I think it was good, very easy to read. I had a wonderful time with the book and I hope you will enjoy it, too. (Also I can't wait to hear about your experience with Swann's Way. It's also on my list, but I couldn't get pass the first 50 pages and now the copy is lying there on the shelf waiting for its time 😅)
It’s good to know someone else feels the same way! I'll be posting regularly about both of those books as I read them. You have me even more excited about The Count of Monte Cristo than I was before.
Hi Randy! Been loving watching this tag go around BookTube. Really enjoyed your answers to the prompts. I read Lonesome Dove last year and really loved it. I really should get to the other books in the series. Great to see you making videos and looking so well. All the best.
@jf8559 It's av popular tag, I think. I'm so glad you enjoyed my version of it. I fell in love with McMurtry's other books 20+ years ago, but I drifted away to other interests before getting to Lonesome Dove. I'm glad to have drifted back to McMurtry m I also read Texasville, Duane's Depressed, and Terms of Endearment recently.
Hi Randy. Thanks so much for the lovely shout-out. Loved your responses to this tag. I, too, am going to join the Proust read-along, at least for the first volume. You know, I have also never read The Count of Monte Cristo, and just yesterday, I was thinking that I really ought to get around to it. I am also a big John Irving fan, and it makes me happy whenever I hear someone talk about him. I used to teach A Prayer for Owen Meany to seniors in high school. You're looking well, Randy. I hope you are feeling better these days. Wishing you a joyful Christmas, my friend.
Welcome back, Randy! It’s wonderful to see you’re doing well and making videos regularly again. I loved Lonesome Dove, enjoyed Dead Man’s Walk, but Comanche Moon, and Streets of Laredo are TBRs. I am also a BIG John Irving fan and loved the title story in Trying to Save Piggy Sneed (which I agree is remarkably touching) although the rest is TBR. BTW, The Pension Grillparzer was included in The World According to Garp, the first adult novel I ever read (& loved). I too suffer from occasional chemo brain (& the same cancer) so I understand how challenging it can be but you recovered beautifully (Dyan Cannon!). Please keep up your great work and positive attitude. Warm regards.
@@LiterateTexan yes, it’s pretty cool. That’s even before I told you that you resemble one of my older brothers and share the same first name with another brother (LOL). Weird, but I love those kinds of coincidences. 🙂
@LiterateTexan no from my complete canon omnibus the short story collections I have left to read are his last bow and the casebook of Sherlock holmes. ^_^
I recently finished the Penguin Classics edition of this on Kindle after my brother recommended it. Time _extremely_ well spent. I was caught a little off guard when it ended, but this was nothing to do with the writing: it was showing as 5% left, so I was ready for a gently wind-down - but it was all footnotes!
@ oh I hate when that happens! It’s nice, but definitely throws me off when there’s “more book” that’s actually just random stuff at the end. I try to check for that whenever I start a book on kindle, but sometimes I forget and am wondering how there’s still 15% left, then done 20 pages later 😅
The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my all-time favorite books! I’ve read it 3x and will absolutely read it again soon. Phenomenal! You’ll love it!
@@FranklyItsMe I've never heard anyone say it's a bad book. Everyone I know who's read it loves it.
Hermeneutics 🤣🤣🤣I feel like that does deserve a video. The Count of Monte Cristo is one I've been wanting to get to.
@@ariannefowler455 Ha! If I really understood hermeneutics, I might make such a video, but I think that's more up Jared's alley.
Awww pup said “why are you ignoring me?! I’m too cute and you need to rub my belly!” 😂

SO many books in my library that I'll get to later, I could do this same tag every day for a year without repeating anything!
@@jscottphillips503 I think I could do that too!
Thanks for the tag Randy. I'm going to "get around" to this one soon. And I'm now subscribed to Pleasereadyourbook

@BookChatWithPat8668 I spent some time teaching high school many years ago, myself. Recently I've been thinking about going back to it.
