So many of us are out here. They perform this surgery and send us on our way with no support while our hormones crash and our health, mental and full body, rapidly decline. It's awful.

This is a devastating life altering dangerous surgery. I went into early menopause after ovaries failed post hysterectomy. Was told I would have normal menopause, NOT TRUE! So now I basically have no uterus or ovaries, i question if I'm even a woman. I have poor sleep, bladder issues, posture and balance issues and these doctors performing these hysterectomies for things like hormonal imbalance and benign fibroids are destroying women and flat out lying about the ovaries still being to function. Now I have to take hormones and be a fake synthetic woman! I honestly think there is a special place in hell for all those involved in the destruction of women in this way.

I am a BRCA 2 gen mutation carrier who underwent at the age of 53 an salpingerectomy , Oophorectomy and Prophylactic Bi lateral mastectomy, and I have to agree that the support throughwards Sexual disfunction and cardio vascular diseasses is very little and only if the patient asks for it.
There is still a big gray zone if we can use safely HRT as a BRCA 2 mutation carrier after all the procedures done. Often we are kept in the dark about this.I think that worldwide there should be given more attention to this subject. We first go through all this to safe our life from cancer, but nobody takes care of the fact that we could die earlier from cardiovascular diseases.

Thank you so much for spreading this. I had a radical hysterectomy & was sent on my way with nothing. Dr. Said I couldn’t have HRT but the geneticist & a fellow Dr. disagreed. I’m finally on 1 mg estradiol but I still feel like this surgery ruined my life to the point where I wish I hadn’t caught the cervical cancer & died, which I know sounds insane but it’s true. In 2 weeks I see a Menopause specialist & I’m so excited. I don’t think the world understands how drastically this can change a women. I was 34, healthy, energized & loved life. Within a year I turned into a shell of a person even thought I eat right, don’t smoke/drink & am active despite having zero energy. I’m just thankful I found out about The North American Menopause Society because at this rate I believe I’d eventually become suicidal, which I’ve never been. The presentation was quite interesting. Thank you again.

Very nice presentation. We do need more preop discussion with women about what their plan is postop. It should be mandatory! Many women are suffering needlessly.

I didn't get a chance. I had emergency surgery. I am having to wait over 2 weeks to even see someone that will probably send me somewhere else and that will take another 2 to 4 weeks.

MegaPerson012345 Sorry to hear. Hope you are able to find a doctor to help. There is a surgical menopause group of women on Facebook that has been really supportive and helpful to me. It’s been a really rocky road trying to manage all my symptoms. They really started getting severe about 2 months postop.

I have been surgically menopausal since I was 32.5 yrs old (now almost.68). Blessedly, I was put on oral premarin for 13 yrs. Then, bc my mom died at that point from ERP breast cancer, I stopped using it. I less than 2 yrs I had pretty severe VVD so have been on vaginal estrogen ever since. Given that background, I have had decades to observe my body and I havent heard what I think is a benefit of vag estrogen addressed--improved bowel function. I have long been diagnosed with IBS-C and when I use my vag esteogen I notice better bowel emptying. If I take a biscodyl 5 mg when I insert the estrogen and also put a dab at my anus, I have great relief that never occurs otherwise. I have tried just the biscotti as well as just the vag estrogen &, though each helps somewhat, neither alone seems to help to the degree both do. Have you noticed bowel help with IBS-C folks (perhaps would be contraindicated for IBS-D folks)?

I was on estradiol for 6 years after I had my total abdominal hysterectomy. It helped me somehow but due to fear of breast cancer, I tried acupuncture following an advice from my asian friend. I actually did not believe about it at first but after few sessions I was so surprised of the effect it gave to my body. I never thought I would feel even better, the melasma on my face started to fade away, i have better sleep now and better sex life.
