- "Arena" - A Genius Like Us: A Portrait of Joe Orton. Directed by Pamela Brighton and Nigel Williams.
... Originally broadcast on 9 November 1982, on BBC 2.
... Portrait of playwright Joe Orton, murdered by his lover Kenneth Halliwell at the peak of his career in 1967.
... Posted the whole documentary, by request. ;-)
... In 8 parts, unfortunately.
The library guy is priceless and straight out of an Orton work.
Like the neighbor the council guy is an Orton character. "Holy Thursday, the day before good Friday 1962". - I'm sorry .....he may have found success later...but to me they were..." Just a pair of puffs. Truly fascinating.
The book 'attacks' are pure genius!
Ben, they are at Islington Reference library - available on request!
I love that the librarians thought that Joe's prank was funny. Annoying, but funny.
They are, in the library at Islington. Attracts a lot of tourists, too, LOL!
OK just seen the law clerk. You couldn't make this stuff up. Orton was a genius.
Gotta luv the dedicated law clerk with his spyglass...makes you wonder if types like that exist any more...most of that particular calibre I think have been laughed out of existence or don't exist beyond a certain generation...however thats not to say that the breed it has been extinguished...always little people with little magnifying glasses obsessing over little things...
Joe Orton was an unusual genius, his death was a great loss of our generation.
nice , id like to have a peak some time
wonder where those books are now , hope there on display somewhere
DaDa.
