Limpar, criminally under mentioned among the Arsenal greats. We wouldnt have won the league in '91 without him full stop. Beautiful footballer who gave us the edge. Maybe not the obvious impact but he as much as anyone, including Bergkamp, to make Arsenal a world wide team.

Totally agree: He was awesome in 1990/91 season. He should be recognised more for his impact that season. He could truly destroy teams on his day.
That said, think in the seasons afterwards, opposing defenders began to realise that, if they tackled him hard at start of game, he'd start to disappear more and more from games.
In the seasons afterwards, he slowly became less and less effective.

Totally agree, supporting Arsenal isn’t the same anymore. Give me the Highbury days of Bould, Adams, Thomas, Merson, Smith, Limpar etc George Graham was a superb manager, and those glory days ended far too swiftly.

I was in the middle section of the north bank, when limpar shot from just inside the half way line we was jumping up and down as it sailed into the net. The atmosphere that day was amazing. It only feels like yesterday.

I went to this game, I was 15 at the time and stood in the north bank. It cost £8 to get in at the turnstiles. Happy times

Can remember a friend who's a Liverpool fan, who absolutely hated it when Liverpool had to play this Arsenal team with Wright and Limpar, as he knew they would almost certainly lose.

This was probably the only time in the 90s were we really pasted Liverpool. Our record against them in the 90s was overall terrible especially in the mid to late 90s. McManaman & Fowler would constantly have a field day with our defenders.

After the fantastic almost invincible league title of the previous season, 91/92 was such a let down, we should have pushed on after that year and dominated the early PL era, alas it started to fall away until the late 90s when Wenger turned up.

I miss the Northbank atmosphere! I first stood watching games in the early 60's . Saw some fantastic games and some famous names from many clubs! Now that seems to have gone with all the 'compulsory ' seating ! time to consider 'safe standing' in certain areas of the grounds!

@@mahirhussain4890 I remember the entrance fee went up to 4 Shillings! That was a lot for me as I was still at school and to travel on the bus and underground to Highbury --it was an expensive day! I once saw a crowd of Man Utd supporters already at the gates opposite the Arsenal underground station. The gates were opened about 2pm and the crowd of Man Utd supporters surged towards the turnstiles. So they got in first and went straight to the 'Northbank' where the Arsenal fans liked to stand. After about half an hour as more Arsenal fans arrived they outnumbered the Man Utd fans and basically moved them away. Didn't see any fighting. I remember once all the 'penny coins' flying through the air! very dangerous if you got one in the eye! There were some great games, Peter Simpson was probably the most 'unsung hero' of those days! Good times for sure!

    Super, super swede
    Super, super swede
    Super, super swede
    Super Andes Limpar
This was last time i stood on north bank as a kid, and to see limpars wonder goal in person, i was right behind the goal he scored in.
Super swede, and i love it that this was my last game i got to stand on the north bank as a kid, back then we had such a great record against liverpool
Liverpool was gone as a team by then, as we brought them down of the top, and this day summed up how well we played against the mighty liverpool
Liverpool was finished in 1991 as merson scored the winning goal at anfield to finish liverpools time at the top of english football
This liverpool team here was old, managed by souness and liverpool was over the top as a team, even though they won fa cup that year
Even though i stopped watching arsenal in 2002, i will always love it was us who stopped the liverpool domination of english football
Alex ferguson never beat one of the great liverpool teams, and only when we brought down liverpool, did liverpool start losing to man utd. Alex ferguson never could beat the great liverpool sides.
Liverpool of mid to late 1990s was a joke of a team, and nothing like there were a decade before.
This day finished off liverpool back then as a league team, ie competing for the league every year. Leeds won that year, and liverpool took nearly 3 decades to win the league again, and mostly went to winning cup competitions, that are never as good as winning the league.
