Unlike most people, I actually love the exterior of this car!
I actually think it’s the best looking SUV out there. Especially in White and Atomic Silver
I love it for the exterior
Alex, you really do give the absolute BEST reviews on cars of all classifications. I appreciate that you give very thorough and unbiased information. I also love the fact you don't try to sway us with music and scenery. Although I find it entertaining, I also like a plain, basic review. After watching your reviews, all I have to do upon visiting dealerships is test drive. That way I don't have to listen to the salesperson's pitch, when they really don't have a clue, or assume I know nothing about cars. Thank you for this review. I'm now seriously considering this model.
Hi I'm 4 years late !! Any updates ?
Coming from a Lexus owner, if you are on the market, try to jump to the Mark Levinson sound system. The regular system is totally fine, the Mark Levinson is a much more premium experience. Our ES has the Mark Levinson, its as if the person singing is in the car with you, that clear. Our RX sounds good, no complaints. It's just not nearly as vivid as the Mark Levinson. You'll notice stuff in your music that you never noticed before ☺️
Just bought one because I'm a big fan of Alex on Autos and his great detailed reviews. Second car I've gotten because of this guy!
I'm thinking about buying a 2017 with under 40k miles in the next week. So how do you like yours? Have you encountered any transmission issues? I just read there is a class action lawsuit being put together over tranny issues in Toyota's so was wondering if you've had any problems. Thanks.
Your reviews are so comprehensive and insightful there isn't anyone else close to the quality of your reviews.
This is, BY FAR, the best review I've ever listened to on RUclips. What an excellent explanation on the details. There is NO ONE on RUclips that has your competence and skills. I've been the top salesperson in real estate in 5 major cities and was #1 in the country selling cars when I started my sales career! BRAVO! You nailed it!!
I just got mine 2 days ago. I love it!!! I used to hate how the rx looked. But when the new style came out in was hooked.
I'm with you 100%! The RXs looked very strange and odd in the past. I really like the new bold look!

Really digging the 4 screen set up you got there for the driving portion of the review! Keep up the good work homie!
Alex you are No 1 reviewer

Very stylish. Super cool looking for a CUV. Lexus was the inventor of CUV/Cross over, then BMW and Mercedes and everyone else followed. Before Lexus, SUVs were based off truck chassis, used to jerky and harsh.
You have the best, most concise and informative reviews.
Great Review Alex. I am glad that Lexus is making more dynamic driving vehicles. That fact combined with Lexus reliability and lower than german maintenance costs should continue to make these sell like hot cakes. And that fact that it is more powerful while running on regular gas is a slam dunk IMO
I find it particularly strange that the NHTSA won't let Lexus vehicles have sequential turn signals but they have no problem with letting the Ford Mustang have sequential turn signals.
+BurnoutMaster Supposedly it is due to the overall size of the elements, the individual sections in teh Lexus lamp are quite small.
After doing my own research and watching your review, I made the plunge and bought my executive package rx last week!
What year and model of RX did you get? I'm thinking of purchasing a 2017 RX in the next week so wondering how you like yours? Thanks.
@@Nightbird. did you bite the bullet ?
@@keving7940 Nope! I discovered the RX I was looking at was behind on the safety features. When a new Corolla has more advanced safety features than a Lexus only a few years old..it gives you pause. So..still shopping.
U make one of the best review videos on RUclips!!! No bromance, no jokes/shit.... Only detailed car review..... My fav RUclips channel 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Keep up with the great work
I'm glad to hear that Lexus has sorted our the ride & handling of the RX. A little over a year ago, I participated in a Cadillac-sponsored ride / drive event, featuring the RX 350, the Acura MDX, and Cadillac SRX. We were divided into groups of 4, and rotated as passengers & drivers among the vehicles. All 4 of us in our group agreed the MDX was far and away the better driving vehicle, that it rode better, was more comfortable, and peppier than the other 2. We also agreed the RX was pretty bland in terms of ride & driving dynamics, about equal to the SRX. The interior fit & finish was about equal among the 3, but the MDX came away as the one we'd all buy were we in the market for a midsize crossover. Would be interested on your take of the 2015/16 MDX with the new 9-speed ZF gearbox, in comparison to this RX.
+Jim MacMurdo interesting review. I wonder what the appeal about the caddy is though. They've been making all their luxury vehicles with that tank front for a few years. Then again, the shape of the grill on the front of the RX 350 is overly aggressive looking on the new model
all old RXs handling are terrible... thats not news, so as all the Camry and colra...
+Jim MacMurdo Here's my two cents. Avoid ZF's 9 speed automatic transmission at all costs! It randomly downshifts while cruising, lacks kickdown when entering highways, front-axle vibrates in low gears, and sometimes will completely fail and plunk the transmission into neutral. Jeep has experienced the majority of the problems relating to this transmission, but Acura is no exception. Honda was forced to recall 9400 Acura TLXs because of the 9 speed.
2017 Lincoln
I've driven a new MKX with the 2.7T. It's a hoot to drive, very well mannered, very comfortable seating, and a very refined overall ride. On my brief test-drive (about 17 miles), the instruments indicated a 19 mpg average over rural roads @ approximately 55 - 60 mph. The new GM/Ford JV 9-speed may help that, when it's finally introduced to Ford vehicles.
It's not an X3 competitor it's an X5 competitor which is what i tested before buying the Lexus . Way better ride ,more equipment , better seats and more rear leg room . Oh and it won't break down either !
Thank you for a very comprehensive review of the Lexus RX. As we head into the 2017 model year my wife and I are in the market for a high end luxury crossover to replace a very dated Subaru. This review has told me that Lexus needs to be on my short list.
If it helps any, I bought a loaded 2016 RX450h a week ago. I can't even begin to tell you how much I love it !
In my opinion you are the best car reviewer on youtube apart from saabkyle. I actually enjoy watching your videos, even videos of cars I have no interest in.
Faaiz Rehman savagegeese?
Liked before starting to watch.
I'm seriously looking at this for my next vehicle......but, wow, that grill is just plain fuggly.
2016 Lexus 350 RX looking pretty sharp. Thanks God Toyota did not follow Honda's trend by eliminating the gear shifter stick and use a push button system (which I hate). I'll put it in my short list when I am in the market for a new car :). By the way, how come you never seem to mention the AWD system on the Lexus ~ is it so simple AWD system that there nothing to write home about?
Great review. I've only recently been put on to how well built and reliable these cars are and while I was originally going to get a Dodge Durango, this might actually be the car I choose instead. Still have about a year to decide. Have to do more research on the car. The Lexus costs more and doesn't have third row but offers better resale and also better reliability but leaps and bounds. I'm thinking it's better to spend a few thoughts and more upfront than get stranded somewhere or have to be in the shop constantly 2-3 or more times a year spending $2000 a year on repairs.
Got a year maybe 2 to decide. Meanwhile I'm gonna test drive it myself for a day using Turo or something to see if I actually like the ride and interior.
Which car did you go for?? ☺️
@@divineoracle4809 the way prices have increased for used cars, I ended up keeping the Jeep.
Still waiting until the prices to go down hopefully sometime next year. Probably around June or July of 2022.
They got that led light right this time
My first used Lexus SUV I want to buy one.
Lexus doesn't build this to compete with the much smaller X3 and GLK, which the NX takes head-on. This will compete directly in size and market class with the X5 and new Mercedes GLC, but offers far better value. Continually using the X3 as a benchmark is pretty misleading, at best.
+Evander Smart The eternal trouble is: I agree with you and I point that out, but Lexus and the average shopper supposedly all shop the X3 especially with the RX. Go figure. Lexus own market research claims the top competitors are luxury compact crossovers.
Alex on Autos That explains the nuclear RX sales. Buyers must not even bother looking at the X5 and GLE.
+raghu ch Lexus claims they see the RX as a GLC competitor so who am I to disagree? While it could be seen as GLE competition it is much less expensive than the Mercedes.
+What is Bitcoin? Wouldn't say the X3 is "much smaller". They both seat 5, 4 in reasonable comfort, and carry enough stuff for those passengers. The X5 is more capable and equipped right makes the RX a laughingstock in terms of handling and performance (for a price).
+Alex on Autos If I get a F sport package, do I lose comfort.
Size wise RX is a midsize suv but price wise its close to compacts like X3 & GLC. Its a luxury bargain!!
I don't know if I missed it, but it seems like it has huge blind spots because of the design and that extremely small windows on sides by the cargo area.
excellent review! no uh,oh,ugh in the review make me really comfortable to watch it.
Hi Alex. Can you compare the AWD/4x4 systems of the Toyota higher end SUVs-Lexus RX vs Lexus GX and LX vs Toyota 4Runner Limited. What do you expect to be the wet/snow performance of these AWD/4x4 systems? Does the Toyota 4Runner Limitedhas real transfer case for 4H and 4L or 4H and 4L are achieved by using the brakes? I would love to see your review the updated 2016 Lexus LX. Thanks
3:06 .. Although there are in some cases halogen turn signal bulbs, I'm guess for a stock taillight it will be an incandescent/filament style bulb. But great review as usual! Thanks Alex!
Alex, you really need to stop referring to the XC60's handling and performance only based on the drive-e fwd versions with skinny tires. An R design will make a Lexus NX feel like an old Buick. And with discounts and free maintenance factored in it won't cost any more.
this is going to be my next car because its uses regular unleaded gas also. that's so great.. a supercar that uses regular gas that will save me money.
Wow that was excellent! Thanks Alex.
What would you say is the better vehicle, the 2016 RX350 or the 2016 MDX? I don't need the third row of the MDX but the extra cargo space is nice. As an all around vehicle which is the better buy? Thanks!
+Cham Lkd I'd also be interested on your opinion on this, Alex.
Best midsize suv.
17:30 ish. I disagree. The engine best noise is the one u DON'T hear. I like a quiet workhorse. That's what Lexus needs to stick too. There's nothing "pleasing" about invasive engine noise!
The RX started it all for unibody crossovers....Toyota continues to 💡innovate.
are these new alien faces going to grow on me like...well, my wife did? Is this something that warms through time????
There is a three row crossover that will be added to the Lexus lineup, rumors say it will be the Lexus TX. There is definitely a demand for a three row crossover, but they have been tight lipped about the upcoming model.
Wow, it has taken 8 years for Lexus to release the TX you mentioned!
Please do a Buick Envision review video please.
The grill sucks...reminds me of the creature Arnold fought in the jungle..otherwise I like the futuristic design and extra room.
My dad had an older RX 350 that I felt drove like a minivan. This review seemed to infer that Lexus has improved it's handling. The tight interior dimensions on all vehicles in this segment are thankfully growing. The RX's competitor, the Q5, is likely to grow it's interior volume and lose weight as its sibling Q7 has done. I'm not particularly drawn to the Rx's nose or it's Maxima "C" pillar. Lexus could have decreased the severity on the rake of the rear window and also allowed for some shedding of weight. This RX got heavier. Some room is lost to carry taller, bulkier items due to the odd severity of the rake in the rear window. Lexus continues to make a mushy brake pedal but overall this vehicle is much better than the outgoing model it replaces.
Excellent review as usual Alex thank you...looking at one of these now on the used market....you’ve helped me greatly.
Hey Chris, Also looking at these on the used market. Shooting for a 2017 with around 40k miles in the $28k area. Did you end up getting one? How was the process and what kind of deal/pricing did you end up with?
Chuck Norris hey man good for you....excellent choice. I’m in Canada and found a 2016 with 60000 kms (approx 40k miles) for 33000. Not bad but took some time to track down the one I wanted. Good luck with your search....let me know how it goes.
Chris Cowan Thanks for the info. Congrats. Sounds like you got a good one. I live near Buffalo so I consider myself part Canadian by osmosis. Could go for some poutine now! Lol. I’ll let you know how it ends up.
Chuck Norris go Bills
Excellent video some great new features disclosed thinking of buying one.
2 things:
1) cargo volume: you mention large but specs show a very small 18cu ft, which is correct?
2) you mention a pretty quick 6.5 0-60 when specs show a dismal 7.7 0-60, again which is correct?
The GX is shorter than the RX while still offering a third row? Weird, but pretty impressive.
The look is more geared towards the younger market. Personally, older folks probably prefer the XC90.
+lupinearsenalALT The RX has always been targeted towards empty nesters. The ride in the RX has always been soft, quiet, and dull, and the vehicle itself is tiny on the inside, like a station wagon on stilts. The XC90 is much bigger, sportier, more expensive, and in a completely different class of vehicle.
+bokkey45 In Europe, the Volvo XC90 is CHEAPER than this Lexus!
your wrong about that, i see older people driving this Lexus.
I really like your reviews as they are detailed and good to watch. Can you please do one for the Merc GLE ? Thanks!
any problems with these suv?
Great job Alex as always.
Only looks good in white
l think black works better since the big mouth front end will blend in
doesn't the mustang have sequential turn tail lights or is the Lexus doing something different to not qualify for US standards?
+Blake Swan Yeah, fo sho, playa.
+Blake Swan This is Alex's response. Alex: "According to Audi (who would also like to do this) it's all about surface area. The US laws require turn signals be at least a certain size and if you do sequential lamps, then each element must be large enough in its own right to qualify. Since the Lexus starts off with that thin ribbon, the first few LEDs alone are not big enough. That's why the Mustang does it with three chunky blocks."
Great review, thanks. In the market for a used one.
Excellent dashboard and interior design. Glad Lexus has gone away from the incredibly boring car designs the used to have, but right to the other extreme?? Back 3/4 angle looks best in class. Nice job Alex.
3 videos at the same time!
Audi has those sequential lights. I've seen them out on the roads
What's the difference between the 2016 and 2017 models? The local Lexus dealer is offering $6000 below msrp (I assume they'll pile on the junk fees) for the 2016 and saying it's to clear up inventory.
I think divorced means it is more of a sports vehicle(IS,RC,NX), when it is built in it means it is more of a family vehicle(ES,RX)
very nice car
Alex, as we are all expecting, would you be reviewing the 2018 Lexus RX 350L (the 3 row version) please?
Touhid Ishtiaque I would love to see one
Hi, Alex
Just wonder how is the front seat head space compared to previous years. I have set my eyes on a RX for a long time. I am 183CM and the 2015 model doesn't offer much headspace even adjust the seat to the lowest level.
Thanks
I'm surprised you were able to comment on the drive characteristics because some of the other car journalists said there was an embargo by Lexus. The acceleration time of that V6 makes it faster than a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V8 (not the SRT8 of course!). The old RX and the current NX have large turning circles of 40 feet. Has it been improved in this model? I believe the Toyota Matrix started the blacked-out glass D-pillar trend, but I wouldn't be surprised the same designers in Pasadena were involved with the Nissan Murano and the Lexus NX.
+cadsux The embargo ended today. That's why all the RX articles came out today going over their first impressions
Excellent video, great narrating, thank you, I learned more about this vehicle....
after all these years peoples complaint about the build quality of the RX, lexus finally made some changes...
+723lion And people are STILL complaining, smh.
+kimaya29 yeah unfortunately, the new rx still shitty inside...
Can you do a review of the 2017 Lexus RX 350 please?
great explanation. Thanks man.
HA! Three A's and three B's. Looks exactly like my high school graduation report card. 🤣
Wow this is great!
+Benjamin Mathew lol
I would love to have the Heads Up Display (HUD) in the 2017 RX350 I'm currently shopping for..but it is very hard to find in the 2017 models. I was told by a salesperson that if you do find them..it's in the F Sport..which I don't want. Same goes for that rear entertainment system.
Outstanding videos
Did I miss the SRx,? its absent from the review. I have one and in the market and its hard to compare what my options are without you mentioning the Cadillac Srx.
Alex. Like always nice Nice review. How do you compare this to a Nissan Murano? They look alike but which one do you rate better not comparing price/value but ride /performance /space
From the opening 3/4 view, I see either a large vacuum cleaner or shadows of the Pontiac Aztek. Or, maybe it looks like something from a Voltron cartoon. If Lexus could get a better design language, I'd give them a second look.
The 2016 RX is the best-selling SUV in its class, so lots of folks disagree with you. It seems the ugliest comments come from folks who can't afford to buy one.
Hi Alex, what would be a better choice , Lexus RX350 2016 or Subaru Forester 2019/2020?
Exterior design is a motley assortment of lines and slashes; nothing is coherent.
Best if driven at night so as not to frighten others!
Interior is beautiful though.
How much is the cost of the laxus 350?
Excellent video Alex. I finally bought one last week.
Few things: At 13:10 you said the "Hang Up" button activates the Siri Eyes Free. But it is the "Call Pick Up" button activates the Siri.
I got the one with the Premium package. My question is does the rear L shaped turn signals should light up?
Alex : Which would you recommend for someone who lives in the northwest ? 2016 MDX Advance, Lexus RX 350, or the Volvo XC 90 (Momentum plus/Convenience/Vision packages)?
Thank you for the Information.. good job!
it looked uncomfortable for you while you were looking at the camera from the back seat...the sloping roof seemed like ti was forcing you to lean pretty far forward. You didn;t mention this as you normally would.
Also, you say the MKX would be the second choice if you consider the 2.7 ecoboost engine.
Why?
The 2.7 MKX gives you 330 HP and 370 Lb torque...a ton more power...and delivers 17/26/21 combined...for less money.
+paul pellico I was only leaning forward so you could see my face in the video. The rear seats are comfortable and headroom is larger than the last model.
I'm not sure what you mean by second choice? I said that until we get pricing we can't make direct comparisons. The MKX with the 2.7L turbo is likely to be about the same price as the RX 350 with the Lexus being a few hundred more. The RX's fuel economy is 10% better and doesn't require premium unleaded. The Lexus is also likely to be more reliable according to historic data. That said the MKX is more dynamic in the right version, faster, and has some features you don't find in the Lexus. Without pricing it is hard to say but I'd mainly say they were a tie in general.
+Alex on Autos
Well...trying to ask that if you sat back, would the roof line then be blocking your side view? Looks like it to me. This is what I was referring to. In other reviews you point this out. Not here.
The 2.7 doesn't require premium, does it? My 3.5 ecoboost does not. I run with 91/93...but I am a performance knucklehead. Whenever I d run regular, I really cannot tell the difference, other than MPG...wich drops down quite a bit. Maybe 2 gallons per mile on ave.
+paul pellico Yes, it blocks a little but the tinted rear window is in the right position to look out of. This was an abbreviated review because I had so little time with the car, there will be a full review later. According to Lincoln the 2.7L is tuned for premium in the MKX.
paul pellico t
One word...Reliability.
Thanks for detailed video Alex!.
I have 16' RX350 FWD. it has been running about 3000 miles so far.
Did you feel about stuttering at around 40mph? I've felt several times at accelerating and climbing uphill.
What about hesitation? This one is pretty stressful issue for me. One of my experience: It doesn't feel like I'm driving with V6, 3.5L engine. Especially, when I accelerate the pedal at the starting point, rpm goes to around 1500 - 1700 rpm, but the car's response is not as I expect. This is the same at the various speed range.
Please tell me, how was it?
Hesitation is probably because of the Eco mode. You can turn that off and try it.
You can make some extra money and use it to plow snow with that ugly fascia.
hi Alex on Autos nice review . the most important question is do this car have a bumber on the front i don't sse it , but if it have a bumber have how this car with that weak front will do on a car crash test .
it SUCKS that the US doesn't get the memory seats on the pax side. Ridiculous.
Its tuned for RX 350 to run Regular Unleaded? How about Lexus Rx 450h f sport model?
Interesting - assuming the RX450HL has the same leg room, I actually don't think it's that impressive. The lack of 2nd row climate controls is also very odd for a car of this class.
The L editions come with second row climate.
@@Nightbird. No it doesn't - not in my country. It has THIRD row controls, but that's next to useless for me.
@@gregsullivan7408 Maybe that's what I saw on the Lexus website..the third row controls. Not very smart of them to do that if that's the case.
So you're saying I can use the body part of my choosing to wave in front the rear hatch to open it? (@ the 04:30 videomark). Very interesting, Alex.
I was wondering does this have a surround view camera system just like the Around View Camera System the 2015 Nissan Murano has?
+Jose De La Cruz yes it is optional
+Alex on Autos is it possible for you to show us the surround view system in a video? Or maybe you have a site where I can see how it looks in this RX 350?
+Jose De La Cruz Unfortunately I do not have a picture of that.
The C pillar blackout works, and I suspect in a few years ALL cars will be copying that. The front end however....sad trombones. Kinda looks like it's ready to feed on plankton. I guess it's the Japanese version of zany.
+Kip Amore Well the Nissan Murano was the first car to do the black out C pillar, so if anything, Lexus is copying.
+WuWei Xu actually jag did it way back in 2009, and if you want to get real technical, Range did it in 2004 (and much better I will add)
Karun Chendrimada Name of the cars?
WuWei Xu Jag had the XJ with blacked out pillars. Range rover sport has been doing it for a while
i like rear seat recline
good review
Between this and a Audi SQ5 can anyone help me out? I drove a loaded SQ5 3.0 and loved it. Cant figure out which one I need/like for a great daily driver
daily driver get the RX... its not even close if your goal is daily car
2:14 What is the Lexus CX? It is placed right in between the Mercedes ML and the BMW X5
That's GX
Alex is this F-Sport or Normal or Hybrid model that you did the road test?
Leather is optional?? What I've never seen a Lexus without leather
Proper Gods Real leather is optional. Synthetic is standard.
I'm not sure about their design this time. I mean RX was marketed toward middle aged people, but this seems too bold for a 55 years old mom.
I think you should go for it! Today 55 is the new 45. You are still young! Enjoy life and be blessed!
Excellent! Well done on all levels!
how come the new mustang has the sequential turn signal light?
