i have owned an RS3 and test drove both the A45 and Golf R, Ended up buying an M140i and i will never look back. Best car i have ever owned

is yours on passive or adaptive? I just got mine last Thursday ( manual/passive) and I find it a bit too bouncy both on the street and autobahn. Thinking to get KW street comfort
@@zevlibin8892 just saw your comment. I got KW SC about six month ago since I felt that mine was just too nervous as well. The KW SC made a great difference, the car feels so much more refined and sits better on the autobahn. I do not regret upgrade. Did you get the KW SC as well?
@@mikelottermannlol7917 yes, have had it for almost a year. Way better than stock sport but even on the softest setting it is still nowhere near comfort in a general sense. I live in Berlin, so maybe its the roads here :)
@@zevlibin8892 Do you still have the car? I also had the Quaife LSD installed (for safety purposes, not to race or drift) and are just waiting for the HJS Downpipe. I also live in Germany.
The M140i straight six engine is a masterpiece.

The best hatch back ever made! You just can’t beat a 6 cyl with rear wheel drive! Just imagine if it was a manual, it would be the ultimate fun!
exactly why I got mine in manual. Yes, the MPG is not as good especially on the highway but the feeling of shifting into 2nd and giving it the beans is bananas!!

I have one too 🖤 A Black, Shadow Edition bought last year. It’s such a gorgeous car and I smile every time I look at it. If I want to cruise about and pose a bit, it can do that... and if I want to race and be a hooligan, it can do that too. My local BMW dealership that I bought it from has already asked me about the new M135 - I told him not to bother - there is no way I’m letting this gem go! 💎😍

Sad loss for BMW, big mistake with the new M135, it's just another generic hatch now
without a 4zyl hothatch, a 8 zyl M5 etc. could not exist...
No problem, we will have the M240i! This one will always stay RWD and I6! And there is even the M2 Competition, so plenty of alternatives. It's not a hot hatch, but it's the same drivetrain with a slightly sportier chassis. Always search for the good things haha.
@@latlak neither of which are suitable to those wanting a 5 door hatch. 240 is just a copycat of the M2. I also don't think the 240 will be around for long, itl become the 235 and use the drive train from the 135
@@relentlesspursuit6894 that's the point, it won't! The Coupe will remain with RWD and I6 engines. My Dad works in Munich for BMW and he confirmed this. BMW ain't losing us petrol heads.
@@latlak it will stay for a while yes, but the next gen will go 4cyl or be phased out altogether - 240 buyers will migrate to the M2

TeacherToolkitDemo that’s only if you know about BMWs, most people can only tell by the badge so when a 116d passes them doing 120 they’ll be quite confused.

With the new 1 Series, I'm happy I bought my 1 Series last year (even if it's only a 125i). Normally I'd be annoyed buying something that's pretty much DOA/EOL, but not this time.

Yes in my opinion too, that is the last really hot hatch, i bought a 125 i, and i'n very happy to drive is with rear traction..

it may not be the best, but certanly the most exciting in technical specs... mine has also the manual transmission..which makes it even more exciting to drive...

Thank for sharing! I really like your review of this m140i! I love cars and driving. I own an old Bmw 3 series e46, I like to drive this car. Actually, I was looking for a "not too expensive" but " sporty " car. And I think this m140i is just the most perfect vehicle in this range of price (I looked for almost all brands on the market, but each time it is the m140i the winner. She beats everything on its path, because for 35.000/40.000 euros on pre owned market you can buy a car which is almost new with all this qualities:
- German
- 6 in line 340HP
- Nice engine sound
- Powerful and "sporty" (340 HP " only " but hey, she's not so heavy!)
- RWD
- Very good chassis
- Can be used as a daily car (comfortable, not too showy...)
- Can be used on a track as a race car ( brakes upgrade highly recommanded
- Can be reprogramed easily @400HP (or even more... and more.... xD )
For me, it's just the perfect car at this range of price, and I would not have chosen the last generation of "1" too, this one is HUGELY better IMHO
thanks for this passionate review, I got the M135i Xdrive for 2 years and changed it to the M140I Xdrive Shadow, it's clearly an upgrade, but I will never change it for the 1 serie....!

Totally agree with you. That's why I have a 140 as well, with an m performance LSD and remap. It is sooo much fun on every journey.
The feeling of the back of the car hunkering down squirming for grip as it's pushing you forward with a LOT of force intoxicating, especially with the noise of the straight 6.
The B58 also seems to be proving far more reliable than previous BMW 6 cylinder engines.
There's 10s of thousands of these engines all over the world for years now and I still can't find any reported faults.
Its gonna be a classic and rare, they don't make them like this no more...

Since BMW confirmed that they would not be making a hardcore M version of this 1-series, this comes nowhere close to the RS3 or A45AMG with around 400ish horsepower (with the upcoming ones having upwards of 420ish stallions) and better interior/exterior styling. But hey, BMW also confirmed once upon a time that M cars will always be naturally aspirated and rear wheel drive only.

With BMWs you have to build up boost before you let off the break when doing Launch Control 👍🏽
With the M140i launch control, the fastest way is to turn it off !
I always get the best launches by just holding it on the brake and modulating the grip with the throttle. Get it right and mid 4's is possible on a stock car, and flat 4's possible with a stage 1 remap - trust me ;-)

I'm not a rich person so I do feel the running costs a little, and i'm only half way through paying off the loan which I took out to buy my M140i. However, for me it's worth every penny every time i drive it. Which is 4-5 days a week! Amazing cars for the money.

@@mstegs5477 yeah, I still don’t know why bmw doesn’t offer the 1 series in usa, I’ve seen a blue m140i with black rims here in europe and that thing is gorgeous and not expensive at all or an attention seeker, you can only guess the car by looking at the badge or the exhaust
So the 4.6 sec is achievable only when a certain condition was met..
4.5 is possible with a standard car, by NOT using launch. Fastest way is to just hold it on the brake and modulate the grip with the throttle. Of course, with a cheap remap, 4 .0 seconds is possible !
It would be cool to see your opinions on the 118i with the 3 cylinder b38 engine.
The m140i was never going to win any beauty contests but that engine and rwd will warm ANY car guy! The new one still ugly and has an engine and 4wd like an S3 a golf R a focus rs an a35 an a45.... with so many choices why would you buy a m135i? I own a 340i because it's a great family car (what I told the missus) she has no idea of the amazing 3l straight 6 under the bonnit. That's for me =]
The 140i is a buty
I like affordable small relatively light cars, hatches and rwd, this is basically the only car that I know of that give me all of those things. I'm a normal person with a normal job and I can afford my M135i. There isn't a car that ticks as may boxes for me as the M135i. Though I'd take a manual m140i if I could afford one. Yes they are the best imo.

That one exactly have thesame bumpers and lights as the m140
It have also the upgrade version of the n55 engine more tunable then the pré lci n55 engine
In fact the same engine than the m2...
So compared to the lci m135 it isnt such a step up....

In my opinium there is not Mutch difference between the M135 lci and m140
M140 have 50nm more and 14hp more...
No big numbers,both are verry tunable

Been looking at second hand M140's in Switzerland and struggle to find rear wheel drive ones. Almost all here are xdrive for some reason. Do you think Xdrive will not be as good as RWD?
