      Hey Rob, great to hear! Unfortunately don't have a burnpot gasket replacement at this time, however it is on our list to complete. Once you pull the burnpot out, use steel wool or scotch brite to clean the surface behind. The new gasket will match right up to the studs - be gentle with it so it doesn't break in the process. Let us know how it goes. Thanks!

    I need to replace the gasket on my wood stove, and wasn't sure how to get the old sealant out. Yours was the first video that came up. You explained it very well, as well as how to put the new one on.
    The only thing I would disagree with is what to do with the door once you have the new gasket on. The instructions that came with mine says to close the door and let it stand for 12 hours. Then, make a small fire and gradually increase the heat. So that's what I'll be doing.

    Should the new rope be the same diameter as the channel it goes into or slightly larger?
    Should I USE 3/4" gasket in my 5/8" channel?
    The old seal I removed had a smaller rope inside the outer one so it was quite dense, the new 5/8" one I bought didn't and it's not as dense, that's why I'm thinking maybe I should go with 3/4"?
    Stove is a RSF Delta 2, manual doesn't go into changing the seal.

    I have a stove that the door does not have a grooved channel for the gasket to sit in. I cleaned everything pretty well. I used the cement, then put the door back on and closed it. I let it sit for close to 24 hours. It seemed pretty good. I lit a small fire with little heat as the direction said. As soon as I opened the door the gasket pulled away from the door. Not only that, but a section of the gasket was rock hard. Why would that happen? Do you think the adhesive that you use will work better ? Thanks in advance

    I have a Cumberland pellet stove 3800 series. I just bought the stove from a guy a couple months ago.
    Everything has been working fine until recently it has popped really loudly when firing up during cycle
    And a big puff of smoke cones out around the ash pan or door, can’t tell fir sure.
    Obviously this has to be a pressure issue. I’m wondering does this sound like a seal issue or other.
    I’m planning on tearing into the back of it in the morning to check cleanliness.

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  3 года назад

      Thanks for contacting us, happy to help. Generally we will see this kind of issue when there are two many pellets in the burnpot on start-up. Too much fuel in the firepot can create an almost explosive ignition. It can also be caused if there is air restriction from ash blockage or burnpot holes that are plugged. I would suggest you go through a thorough cleaning on the unit and vent pipe; this very well could just be a cleaning maintenance issue. Keep us posted. Thanks!

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  5 лет назад +1

      Glad to hear the video was helpful. Wow, that's an old Earth Stove - That must be a wood stove model because Earth Stove didn't make pellet stoves until the late 80's. I know that most Earth Stove Pellet stove models use a 3/4" firm gasket. I would not be familiar with the really early Earth Stove Wood Stoves. Possibly one thing you could do would be to lift the gasket up a little bit and measure across the groove that it sits it. We would probable go with just 1 size larger than the groove. You can also squeeze the current gasket to feel what the density is like. Most will be medium to hard, however some are soft. Let us know what you find and we will see if we can assist with a replacement. Thanks!

    • @wisedove7
      @wisedove7 5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the speedy reply! Yes..it's a wood stove, and the gasket is definitely wider than the one you used in the vid above. It's quite worn but the stove still has a decent seal, and I suspected it would need to be firm. I'd rather not lift the gasket unless I have a replacement on hand or coming, but if I can't find one here I will let you know when I do. Thank you again. :-)

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  2 года назад

      Thanks for contacting us Frank. Unfortunately we do not have a video on the Advance door gasket (I'll add it to the list), but we can walk you through it here.
      The Advance will use a specialty notched tadpole gasket with peel off adhesive backing. Some folks like to put a small bead of high temp sealant behind for extra security. Just like the video here, try to scrape out any residue left behind before installing the new gasket.
      To Access: The Advance will have bolts on the inner door located by each notched area of the gasket. These bolts need to be taken out to access and replace the gasket. They essentially remove an inner frame bracket of the door, allowing access. Some folks will soak them down in WD40 for a bit to make them easier to remove. Pay close attention as you pull the old gasket out and install the new one the same way. Just like the video here, try not to bunch or stretch the new gasket when laying it in and let it set for at least an hour. Advance gasket listing for reference: pellethead.com/product/harman-advance-mark-i-firebox-door-gasket-specialty-tadpole-oem/
      Hope that was helpful, any other questions please let us know.

      @EarthSense  Год назад

      Thanks Cameron. We'll add that to our list of upcoming videos to complete. Suggestions/Tips: try to make sure all fly ash is vacuumed from the area best as possible. When removing the tadpole ash pan gasket pay attention to how it is installed. Do your best to remove any left over silicone/sealant best you can before installing the new gasket. You may want/need additional high temp silicone when installing if the adhesive backing for the gasket is not holding it securely in place. Hope that is helpful, keep us posted. Thanks,

    Hi I have a Harmon pc45 that's over 10 years old. Last year our Harmon guy said the gasket didn't need replacing but we have soot mark "goasting" on our ceiling and I tried that trick of trying to pull a dollar bill through the door and I could. I therefore think it needs replacing. What size would it take and do you think I'd need to replace the bottom door gasket where the pellet basket sits. I'm hoping to not have to take the door/s off their hinges. Thanks, Laurie

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  5 лет назад +1

      Laurie, thanks for contacting us. I don't believe the soot mark 'goasting' is coming from the front door or ash pan door. The stove is always sucking in and blowing out the exhaust. When a gasket seal is no longer tight, you will notice a less efficient fire/flame - starting to get lazy. If that dollar bill pulls out with little resistance, it would be good to replace that gasket. You can check the ash door gasket the same way. Same size gasket is used on the door and the ash pan door for your stove. Link below to the door gasket kit for the PC45. To address the smoke, I would give strong suggestion to check the exhaust vent pipe connection and vent pipe seals. Again, the unit is blowing out the exhaust so it's under positive pressure. Even small leaks by the vent adapter or venting connection points will allow smoke/soot to come in the home. We use a hand held CO meter to detect for leaks in the pipe. Closely check that area. One last thing, the vacuum cleaner you use to clean your stove. If you are using a normal vacuum cleaner, that soot is going to pass through into the home. We recommend either an ash vacuum or to use hepa drywall dust filters in a standard shop vac. Hope that helps, any other questions please let us know.

      @@lauriewhite4804 Our pleasure Laurie. Yes, if power goes out some smoke will come in unless you have fresh air intake installed on the unit. • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  2 года назад

      What you will want to look at is if your door has a groove that the gasket goes/sits into. If it goes into a groove it will be a round gasket. There are very few models that will use a flat gasket for the door seal, however there are some out there. Stove's that use a flat gasket for the door seal will not have a U-shaped groove around the door. Yes, over the years a round gasket can certainly look flat. If you know your stove make and model we can also see if we can pull up the parts guide to see what the correct replacement is for you. Happy to help, thanks!

    What is the proper way to clean the air wash system on a Harman Advantage 2

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  2 года назад

      Thanks for contacting us. I think your referring to the Harman Advance-2 or Harman Accentra-2 (Harman did not make an Advantage model). The Harman air wash system is a small gap on the bottom part of the firebox opening that allows some combustion air to come through and wash over the glass. You can use a can of air duster (pressurized air) to clean in that gap and clear out any ash.
      Other Tips:
      -Once you clean the glass, go back over it with a wet paper towel to remove any of the glass cleaner residue. It will stay cleaner longer.
      - If you are running your stove on low settings, turn it on higher settings for a short period and that will help to clear the glass.
      - Pellets - You will notice a major difference between pellet fuel and how clean the glass stays.
      Hope that was helpful, any other questions let us know. Thanks!

Once the chain and auger motor are out you can remove the main sprocket to access the auger shaft. You'll find a retainer bracket with two bolts that holds the auger shaft securely. Remove and when you re-tighten, tighten evenly. Once that bracket is off a Channel Locks can be a great tool to grip the auger shaft bearing which is apart of the shaft assembly. Now door doesn't seal... What did we do wrong?

      @@TheDennisZb Thanks Dennis. I wasn't familiar with that model so I looked it up. Manufacturer appears to be Ningbo which is one Alibaba imports in. Without ever carrying that model it would be difficult to say exactly what is going on with the door gasket. Generally speaking gaskets should last several seasons. A 12mm gasket equates out to being very close to a 1/2" gasket. It's important to have a tight seal all the way around. Possibly there was a mistake with the gasket size in the owners manual or something specific with that model that raised the gasket. Also unusual to have gasket stuffed in the corners as you mentioned. The important thing here is to have a tight seal all the way around ensuring there are no air gaps. You can try to put an additional bead of silicone behind the gasket to raise it up a bit or you could try to go a size higher with the gasket, such as a 5/8" replacement - Again, just important we have a solid seal all the way around. Any other questions please let us know. We carry virtually every size gasket if you need a different replacement.

      Hey Dwight, thanks for the message. Did some digging, found this parts outline for the Earth Stove BV450C. I know you just mentioned BV450, but I'm thinking this is correct. Shows a 3/4" Diameter Rope Gasket. You can always pull a small section of the gasket up and measure the groove width in the door gasket channel. Generally speaking, gasket will be one size up from the groove. Ex. 5/8" groove width, 3/4" diameter gasket. Let me know if that makes sense.

      @@EarthSense Thanks so much for getting back to me! I had a 3/4" Rope gasket I bought last year I tried to install last night. It was too big and after trying to cram it in the groove the best could I was unable to get the door to close no matter how hard I tried... After reading your message I measured the groove and it is just less than 1/2 inch wide. So I'm guessing a 5/8" gasket will be best, just ordered a Pellethead rope gasket and a gasket for the glass window on Amazon! The old one I that I took out (it's about 30 yrs. old) and gets daily use all winter looks smaller than the 3/4" one I tried. Thanks again for your videos and response!

The OEM gasket is a 3/8" Rope, firm density, part # 1-00-00888. We would always advise to use the manufacturers replacement indication. Hopefully that is helpful, let us know of any other questions. The XXV door should just lift off of the pins. Open the door so it is perpendicular to the front of the stove and lift the door straight up. It should have a notch cut in the cast top to allow the door to lift off, but if it is an older version without that notch then you will need to un-bolt the top hinge plate to get the door off. Hope this helps.

      The glass gasket for the 5824 Model is Part #88139. I was unsuccessful finding anyone who sells this part number including the USSC factory site. Best I can say is to measure what you currently have best you can and make note of the style (rope or flat). Keep us posted, happy to help.

      Thanks for contacting us Tim. Door Rope Gasket size does vary quite a bit based on the Whitfield model you have. You can send us a picture of your stove and we can help you determine the model. I'll include a direct email below. Check the handle side where it's sealing and do a dollar bill test - half in/half out, close the door, see how much resistance there is when pulling the dollar bill out. If it's heavy resistance than the 1/2" gasket is probably correct. What you can do on the opposing side where there is a gap is to lift the gasket up and put a thicker bead of silicone underneath that side. Let it set for 24 hours and then close the door. You want to make sure there are no gaps and it's sealing tight all the way around. Email to send the picture: info@pellethead.com
