Good job. Essentially, the pullover is simply having enough strength to elevate center mass above and over the bar. Some kids can come right off the street and learn this within a session while others require time to build strength. I always try to communicate this parent who feel there kids should be progressing faster. To instill a feeling of confidence in the student I will often start beginners with kick overs. There are several variations that help instill confidence
and develop awareness for the movement. Thanks, Coach Wes

Can you give me tips on how to get my hips to the bar I kick hard then my shins just hit the bar and it really hurts

@@user-py5ey8cd3e It’s actually fairly simple to elevate you hips above and over the bar as long as all the forces available to you work together. First, make sure you stand with your feet under the bar. If you stand with you feet too far forward of too far back you stand the risk of creating too much swing when you pull yourself off the floor to elevate your hips. Now, let’s talks about how you combine the forces. As you kick one foot up and over the bar keeping that legs straight your I’ll also pull the bar to you you tummy area and push off the floor aggressively with the foot that stayed on the floor when you kicked the other leg. So, these three forces combine to elevate your hips. You kick, pull the bar down to the tummy with the arms and push off the floor with the other foot. Try to pd these all together. Also, DO NOT throw you head back. Watch you toes as they go up and over the bar. The reason I want you to pull the bar to you tummy is so you elevate your body’s center mass above the bar. You’ll probably still end up bringing your hips to the bar which is fine. If you hit your shins it could be a result of several things. You may not be standing under the bar when you start. Remember, if you stand too far forward or too far back you stand the chance of creating swing before the hips are high enough to drop over the bar. Also, if you throw you head back you lose your shape which can also cause problems. Lastly, if you fail to time the three forces previously mentioned ed it can cause a loss of amplitude which can cause you to hit the shins. Try the things. If i had a video of your pullover I couple easily do a mechanical analysis and isolate areas in need. corrections. Coach Wes

What do you do when they get their feet over the bar, but get stuck on top and can’t push up to front support?

@@Leah-wp5yg I was just thinking the same thing. If they don't rotate their wrists, they won't be able to bring themselves to the front support.

@@geekchick4859 Adult gymnast here, and I would say that in general, it's the same. However, depending on the drill or skill being worked on, they may utilize other equipment (like additional mats and such) to help reduce the physical load of spotting adults.

This is late but hopefully it helps any people who coach folks bigger than them and wanted this answered. Work on strength with them rather than just spotting them when they’re not ready. So work on piked chin holds on the bar, holding candlestick upside down on the bar, etc.
If/when you do need to spot, widen your stance, use your whole arm rather than just hands, and use something to stably stand on if height is a concern or to get better leverage.
