Dan is a skate rat, but more in the sense of like a 15-year-old kid. It’s pure unadulterated skate brain 24/7. The excitement & the constant curiosity toward skateboarding. It makes me feel more normal, because I’m the same way. I’m 39, & broken, and I still see spots everywhere and follow everything
I’m 36. Still skating and progressing, Only thing holds me back is knowing my limits. But skating in 2024 is pretty fun, makes me feel connected to my youth, grew up skating in the mid 90s to early 2000s
I’m sure the camera doesn’t portray the amount of chaos there, but it looks gnarly. That’s what makes it so awesome tho. I remember being young and being able to just tap into that adrenaline and huck shit when I was around dudes that were better than me. I can’t imagine skating in a park surrounded by that much talent. Brings out the best in skaters for sure.

its making me depressed to see how good people are, i know i shouldnt compare myself with people who have been skating 5x as many years as me but i really dont feel like ever being good enough even for my own standards
I think this goes for anything though. If you're an artist or musician, etc., there will ALWAYS be someone better than you, no matter what. It's a matter of finding some joy and meaning in your own experience and development with it.
just picked up skating again and yeah its definitely humbling but you get to appreciate how good they are and aspire to get better yourself, at least thats how I see it. Its definitely wild how good some of these kids are though, they grew up doing this and it shows.
