I use the the IKEA locking mason jars with white gaskets. PVA leather glue and 1816b adhere too much over a short period of time, making the jars too difficult to open. I need a gasket that does not allow the glue to adhere, perhaps one made out of an oily pull-up chrome tanned leather. I think the red rubber gasket will suffer the same fate. Solvent-based contact cement also deforms the white rubber gaskets.
@ 1:54 - you have to reverse the silicone ring on the lid and the silicone will tight itself, but I really think that your problem with these containers silicone rings is that you bought cheap containers, try to buy the French ones LE PARFAIT or the Italian ones FIDO, trust me the silicone ring with these 2 brands will not enlarge. I've tried fiebings leather cement first, then got dap Weldwood and next I plan on trying aquilim 315. So far I liked Weldwood best but have recently began using the fiebings again, my only gripe is that it doesn't spread out very well so I'm hoping aquilim is the answer.

Rubber gasket is the word you're looking for to describe the ring that seals the jar.
