I know your post is from 4 years ago, but I'm considering an M2, maybe a 2018 N55 with hopefully low miles. How was your experience owning the vehicle. Did you have any issues with it and Would you recommend it? I live down in Florida with very smooth roads and I'm a single guy so don't need a big car. Thanks in advance
@@Daveyboy_GolfR hey man! You’re fine! Still have it and miles are low! Overall great car and it does sound better from the competition. In terms of power the comp. Is better. However, for my lifestyle it’s more than fine since I don’t track the car or drive aggressive anyway. I prefer to cruise haha. Mechanically, no issues at all. Just general maintenance making sure the oil gets changed and that everything’s inspected. Overall a very reliable car. From the issues I’ve seen people have it’s because the tend to push the car far too much and if that’s something you won’t do too frequently then you’ll be fine

@@Luis-un8do I had an E46 330 CI many years ago. My most recent car was an MK7 golf R which I loved, and now I'm driving a massive Lexus RX 350L, and it just feels way too big... No connectivity, just wanders like a big buffalo lol. Yeah it's real comfortable but I get no pleasure out of it. Thanks for the reply... I think the M2 or maybe the 2018-2020 m240i with the B58 might be enough since I don't track the car either. I just love the looks and the sound of the M2, and that alone would be worth the extra 7-10K from the m240i. The new model m240i is ridiculous in terms of power, but the price is even more ridiculous. Can't find one for less than 60 k if I'm lucky. Hate those gauges anyway. Thanks for your reply bud
Good review. I love my M2! I was lucky to get one from BMW with all the M Performance carbon fiber add on parts (spoiler, winglets, mirrors, etc) including the bluetooth M Performance exhaust. If you think stock sounds good, you should hear it in sport mode with the flaps open on the M Performance exhaust. Pure bliss! This is without a doubt, the most fun BMW' that I have ever owned and I've had several over the last 15 years.
Yes, I agree it is very harsh on anything but glass-smooth roads. And an unfortunately by-product of the harsh ride is random and miscellaneous squeaks, rattles & vibration that come and go, and virtually impossible to trace.
Joe, we're going to need you to revisit the M2 after you get some seat time in the new Supra. I want to know which you would choose between the M2, Z4 and the Supra.

This has aluminium and real carbon trim in comparison let alone Alcantara and higher grade leather with real (not fake) stitching, unlike all cars you list. Do not embarrass yourself further.

Not to complain Joe, just a thought, that video camera doesn't seem as high-res as your other videos. Even the sound seems muted. The close-ups aren't very close up, hard to see anything in detail. Nice review though!!

I was once told by the German host family I stayed with during an exchange student program that the BMW logo was modeled after a spinning airplane propeller--the blue representing the sky and the white representing a blurred propeller in motion. I wonder if that's actually true.
I have a 2018 PP2 mustang GT. What do you think of this compared to that for driving experience? I love handling and looking to possibly change it up if this is better.
This is the *old* M2 and basically an M235i on steroids. The new one is the *M2 Competition* which is mini M3/M4 thanks to a real M engine (twin-turbo S55 instead of mono-turbo S55), electronics, suspension, seats and mirrors. It's not available in this color anymore. The Competition has huge 6 piston front and 4 piston rear brakes, this one only 4 and 2 pistons. The sound is augmented by the sound system.
I love it. I have a 2012 335I which I've actually loaned to a friend for the last few months who is having hard times right now but that thing runs like the wind with the JB4 Tuner. Great cars but a little expensive to maintain. Anyhow I can only imagine how well the new ones run. That M2 looks and sounds great. Another great video guys. Oh yeah, and I got married Joe and you guys weren't there. What's that about?!?!?!? Lol. Later!!!!!

Lol but that's expensive, $20K more for a rear seat and 200 more HP. :D I always liked BMWs, but like many of the others in the upper real of automotive enthusiast nirvana, they cost money to purchase, maintain, and repair, but if you have the money, and place to keep them, and related factors, it's great to have the option. My 3 Buicks where all 2 doors, my 3 Chevies were 4 doors, but I am partial to the practicality and utility of 4 doors, but, I have been getting swayed to 2 doors lately, abs if I had a practical utility vehicle like the Honda HR-V Sport, Mybe a 2 door would be an option. The Corvettes are nice, but I don't want one. It's too excessive for me now, and like you were mentioning, you don't need excessive horsepower for a performance car if it is balanced and does everything well, especially for a smaller and lighter vehicle. Right now, my 2 door performance car of choice would be the new Toyota Supra Premium, in Blue. Essentially getting an Austria made BMW Z4, but more racy looking, and with a DCT, and more pleasurable for all kinds of everyday driving without excess, like a Corvette. But the Miata MX5 Ckub shows that it can do its thing with 181 HP, and have all the best performance and premium goodies at a reasonable price for what many vehicles at that level don't. But this M2 is low mileage, Hsrmon Kardon sound system with a CD player. But all the performance and aesthetic styling details are ideal, though I agree with all the things you saus could be added, like the blackout grill, black roof would be nice, and all the rest. But other than that, I like everything about it. Before, when I liked BMWs a lots, I wanted an M5 or X5/X6 M, but now, I think I would be happy with this. Maybe an M3 fir 4 doors, but all the details on this car is impeccable. Quad exhaust, the engine/exhaust note in all the facets of driving is so soothing, like a cat purr, and I can tell the shifter is untra slick, making me ci sider getting a 6 speed, even if I get that Honda Civic Sport Sedan. And yes, dark grey is the best color, hands down for a BMW M series.
I prefer the M2 performance package that adds more than 400bhp that way I could give you a run for your $$$ with your M4 for sure on the race track (no straight line crap).
This is the only BMW I would ever buy ,I love its size and stance

Yeah much better sound. Detuned S55 with 40 more hp and 200 more lb is not worth it if youre not tuning.

This M2 has an N55 engine. The Zupra has the better B58 engine. The M2 Competition with a real M engine (S55) would kill both :)

yes, they also were the first to use fuel injected motors in their planes during WW2. The British and Americans later copied the technology.
Still i never seen a focus rs on the road and i have seen the m2 several times.. having the focus i would feel more special.

The M2 is a velvet sledgehammer, the Mustang a wrecking ball. Ford is clumsy in other words.
It's just a. more tidy pkg over the the GT PP2. The gear box is better in the M2 compared to the GT PP2.

The N55 M2 is much much more than an M235i on steroids. A lot of the parts are from the M3/M4, whole different front sub-frame, etc.

The M2 is nice but I'd rather have the M4 or the M5 competition.
I prefer the M2 performance package that adds more than 400bhp that way I could give you a run for your $$$ with your M4 for sure on the race track (no straight line crap).
The M2 PP is OLD. The one to get and think about is the M2 Competition.
I guess to each their own. I felt that the M2 feels more engaging for the driver.

@@RaitisRides I prefer the RS3, love the 5 cylinder sound compared to the v6 from the M2, it just creates such a more pronounced growl
RS3 is more luxurious and fast in a straight line. But not as good driver's car as this BMW.
