When friends encouraged Rajendra Prasad to begin a home-eatery in 1979 in Mulbagal, then a sleepy village 100 kms away from Bangalore on the Tirupati - Madras highway, he set out to make a dose that hadn’t been seen in commercial kitchens before. Borrowing a homestyle tradition of cooking dosas on individual tawas, “he pioneered” the technique of making a dose that was both roasted and steamed. And thus began the tradition of a scrumptiously delicious, crisp and fluffy breakfast treat, now known as the Mulbagal Dosa, that has put this temple town on the map for every dose aficionado. Special Masala Dosa
Roasted first and then steamed, the form of the Mulbagal Dosa with its upturned edges mirrors the shape of the individual cast iron pans it is cooked in. Crusty and crisp on the outset, soft and spongy within, this dose comes across as a cross between a traditional version and an appam. Oozing ghee, the dose breaks in a crisp crackle that belies its thick and fluffy body. The chilli-warming, slightly sour notes of the red onion chutney smeared within complements the palya. For a spicier bite, taste the dose with the lentil chutney.

Special Plain Dosa
The unique texture of the dose is heightened because there is none of the potato stuffing (palya) to moisten the dose; taste it before the masala dose to savour completely the texture of this unique creation.

More like a thick, fluffy uthappam. The hero here is the texture and flavour of the onion; you can taste the near caramelised, sweet notes of the fried onions, and also the moist bite of the translucent onions that haven’t been roasted to a crisp. We visited Prasad mulbagal dosa hotel two days back en route to Tirupati.. Tasted the best masala dosa ,plain dosa, vada and idli. Definitely a must have!
Yesterday I visited this place (since someone suggested near the temple). Mouth watering dosa also tatte idli. Just thought of suggesting you this place . But you had covered it 2 years ago .
As a person who visits Mysore quite often , I tried Mulbagal dosa today. My honest opinion is that o didn't find it too khaas..as a mysore visitor .. the mylari dosa is the very best and I found that I prefer the Mylari dosa over Mulbagal. This is my review. Thank you 🙏

I would like to thank you frm the bottom of my heart for introducing this special dosa frm Karnataka...u gave me an idea to open a small stall(after much trial n error) in my country, i watched this video over n over again to get idea n inspiration(just based on ur wonderfully explained review)on how too prepare this type of dosa though the type of rice used for this preparation is not possible to get here where i live.
Living abroad this is impossible for me to taste it unless i visit Bangalore India in near future 💗💗💗 thank u once again Kripal sir.

The owner of this little hotel and his son are really humble, simple people.They readily shared their recipes.
One thing though, you ought to have spoken on camera, to the dose maker, who doles out hundreds of dose everyday so finely, to perfection !!
A must eat place for breakfast and never have we missed this place everytime we visit Shree Anjaneya Temple at Mulabagilu ..... Our family favorite destination .... It's been so many years and every time the authentic taste and hospitality has not changed.

Kripal sir, in Kannada we call those cast iron tavas as 'Kivi iro tava' ಕಿವಿ ಇರೊ ತವಾ as it has two ear shaped handles on both sides ! I am watching this while having lunch, coz your episode leads to hunger pangs, which are uncontrollable 😭 hence precaution to eat while you show us the star of the episode and savour it !
