9:35 and 9:41 Donnie's waking up from trance and mom's scared reaction are f'ing great. The really sad part about Donnie is that his parents are anything but ignorant or abusive. The are kind and understanding, but they cannot help him.
That's the point. And they're trying what everyone else has done the last 30 odd years... Pills. They fix everything, with absolutely no consequence...
I love these scenes! They should all of been in the final cut, everything makes more sense with them especially the pumpkin cutting scene, because it shows how much Elizabeth cares about him and that Donnie is quite taken aback when she says the Frank carving is scary
the first scene was amazing, the referencing to the end was incredible, and talking about how he'd put away the monsters was incredible insight into the tangent
The writing really is so good, I love close to all of the characters. Especially donnie's parents. I feel life would've been much more pleasant if I grew up having been raised by them, or folks like them.

Some of these scenes are in the directors cut but feature slightly different takes/even more additional lines. i.e. in the restaurant scene at 1:44 when Eddie says "I say we buy him a moped" the directors cut release uses a different take where he says "I think we should buy him a moped" instead, and Rose replies with "I think we should get a divorce" and they both give each other a knowing grin. It's so neat seeing all of this footage which ultimately didn't see an official release in any of the film's versions!

I've been looking for director's cut scenes of donnie darko forever, and I finally got he idea of tping 'deleted scenes' instead and they're all here! it suc that this hhas no commens cause I ove reading other people's opinion and the top rated comments for instance, I tough the last scene with the therapistwas one that should definately not have een removed. To me this movie is about the moment death becomes a reality The moment that a teenager or young adult when an event or a book, a movie, a change in the psyche and we are no longer immortal and death is unavoidable. The references to destruction, is a condensed lifetime of choices that we make having no idea if they are right or wrong, but, we hope we choose wisely. The never ending search to understand the meaning of life. Once Donnie has the maturity to recognize that smurfs are asexual while his friends stlll make dirty jokes about smurfette shows he has given up childish things.. He recognizes that the world is a scary place full of dangerous people. The sleepwalking, seems to ask us how much of our life is rushed and unappreciated, We create no memories, we have no idea of our impact on important events because of habit or fear sleepwalking life away. . Eventually we are held accountable for our lack or action or over reactions. The ability to see Time"? if we can see time and its path we will quickly find where our time began, where it will end We wil never enjoy life because we know that there is nothing we can do to stop time or change others or how much time we have. Seeing time would give us one advantage. to accept death when it comes. knowing you r timeline was complete.

Is there a way to offer closed captioning (Pt 1 had them, I think) or can you tell me what Miss Pommeroy whispers in Donnie's ear at 4:34 please? Thing is director's cut is ruined on some really bad editing and changes to things in the original cut. Someone needs to make a cut that adds these additions, removes the in your face descriptions and retain the original scenes. Oh and keeps the original music. It's iconic
@Ethan B i think richard kelly already explained donnie wasnt necessarily supposed to die. all he had to do was fix the glitch, its implied roberta sparrow went through a similar situation and she survived until after the end of the movie. donnie probably thought it was just a dream, had he gotten up sooner things most likely wouldve been fine. an untimely end, but at least he died knowing he wasnt really alone in the end
