Reptiles at the Reserve: Snakes!

Reserve scientists lay out light weight "cover boards" in winter and spring to find reptiles. Ectotherms like the Gopher Snake and Garter Snake seen here rely on finding warm and cozy spaces to keep their body temperature up in cold weather. This is an easy, non-invasive way to survey species biodiversity here!
