"They say we're young and we don't know We won't find out until we grow Well I don't know if all that's true 'Cause you got me, and baby I got you" Over and over ... I love it, too! :)
Omg it was a staple movie on my house.. I was I think 16 when it came out and I watched it so many times later that block buster employees would joke and say "oh it's groundhogs day again" lmfao
Phil even travels with his entourage. I was at the PA State Farm Show in January. Phil was brought in his travel hutch with the guys in top hats. People followed him and waited to get their picture with him. It was just awesome! The governor didn't get that kind of notice. LOL Love our Phil!!
In the wild, groundhogs can live about 5 to 7 years. In captivity, they can live almost 12 years. In punxsutawney Phil's case, according to the Pennsylvania groundhog club, (the guys with the top hats) this is the same groundhog from the start since 1886. We all know that's a bunch of hogwash, but I consider phil to be somewhere along the lines of Santa claus or the tooth fairy. It's all folklore.
My parents and basically all of my extended family are from punxy, my cousin painted the wall you walked infront of at the beginning of the video and my great uncle Otto Phillips was a part of the Groundhog Club for many years.
21 Feb 2019, wife and I decided to go to 2020 event. Started researching area In late March we confirmed vacation days and made reservations. Holy cow, were we lucky. The few rooms in Village are booked 10 year in advance. Google earth of the area showed several towns about 20 to 70 miles away.We were able to get a room in Brookville Pa. 22 miles north of Punxy. We got the last room the Gold Eagle had..What a fun experience it was. The day we checked out we booked for 2021, as did everyone else did who stayed there.Absolutely the greatest time.Everyone was so nice. There are 3 days of things to do, plenty of food vendors, entertainment, Party starts like 3 A M. So be ready for then COLD! There is a warming tent, and huge bonfire. Plus a museum building to duck into. Food Stand and bathrooms. Fireworks too. Unless you are part of he Inner Circle,or connected to event got to take shuttle buss, but there are plenty of them. 'Gobblers Knob is about 1.5 miles outside village. If you like cold weather, yo have got to go at least one.We even joined the club. And YES it is going to be held.
Who knew Phil had an inner circle?😁..just the kind of kooky place with the funny statues I like to visit. Thanks for sharing the Phil background you don't see on tv!
Funny enough he's right about as often as the human forecasters!😂 and they all keep their jobs lol. I'm from PA and its deff not about accuracy....it's about tradition. Great video!!! What an experience it must've been👍😳!!
That was a fun video, Chris! Thanks! I have a groundhog living in my neighborhood. I often see him munching vegetation next door. Sometimes he ducks under my wood fence and visits my back yard.
Thank you for not making fun of us in PA with such a crazy tradition. It’s awfully cold in February, we have to find fun where we can! I have never been there but have friends that have gone for the festivities they said it was huge fun.
I live in Erie, PA, but never been to Punxsutawney. Seen the festivities on TV. Fun to see you tour the town and go to Gobblers Knob. Thanks for showing me a place I have wondered about. It was neat to see him at the library, you don't see them living that high on the hog. Bad pun. Thanks as always, Chris.
I freaking love that movie. I first discovered my shadow when I was 3yrs and I cried like hell. So yeah, the weather was bad because I was drenched with tears.
Hi, Chris @mobileinstinct It is groundhog’s day 2021 and I thought due to covid they would not live stream. I started a few years ago watching the live stream because I have been home battling cancer. This holiday always made me smie. Chris, thank you for this amazing video I have alway wondered about the town and also wanted to find out where he lived. Wow! I love that he has a wife Phyllis ❤️💕 Loved seeing the place that I have seen on tv for ever. You probably didn’t make it this year but hope that when the world heals you will make it. Thank you Chris
Well that was fun! Knowing I am only around 45 miles from Punxsutawney Pa I live in Harrisburg nice to have you here)))) Also my birthday is Feb 2 end ......
Cast to my HD TV from my PC and the picture quality is fantastic. Great educational video. You remind me of the great travel videos made by Huell Howser for PBS and the Auto Club.
2-02-2022 here and cloudy ! NO SHADOW ! SO EARLY SPRING ! YES, YES, YES ! Hate snow on my 400 foot driveway, uphill with 35 degree turns ! If snow would stay off my drive I would love to see snow ! But of course that won't happen !
Hi Chris, that is so cool, I am pretty sure that's not the same Phil though year after year, but hey it looks like real fun and Phil and his wife have a pretty cushy life there. Thanks for sharing. x
In Rhode Island, we used to have almost 20 Mr. Potato Head statues all over the state, however a lot of them are no longer around. Hasbro was founded in Rhode Island and my aunt used to work for them when I was a kid. I've actually been inside and it was really cool. However, there was a lot of geese poop everywhere outside of the building.
Was in my boxers one day on Proxibid window shopping and put in a bid of $800 for a F800 crane truck.. little did I know I would win it and be forced to go pick it up just down the road from here at Hetager Drilling (sp?).. didnt even know what it was or that the place was famous but thought the gate was cool.. looked it up when I got home and was surprised to learn I had passed the origins of groundhog day
Thank you very much for this. It was very interesting. The Phil outside of the Fire Station, wouldn't it be more fitting for him to have "22" on his helmet since Groundhog Day is on 2/2? If everything goes according to planned, Groundhog Day 2020 will be on Super Bowl Sunday.
Gobblers Knob?! That's funny! I'd like to gobble your knob you little cutie. HA! Feb. 2 is my birthday😁👍🧜♀️Great vid! I enjoy all your vids, especially the Mt. St. Helen's one
This was my birthplace, and while I haven’t lived here for 45 years, I visit twice a year. I’ve never been sure why, somehow, that Woodstock, IL, with all due respect to them, filled the bill for a movie location more appropriately than Punxsutawney itself. I don’t find that Punxsutawney and where they filmed look much different.
I grew up within 40 miles of Punxsy and have never bothered to go to the groundhog day celebration. Even in high school where we had teachers from Punxsy go there to film students in case anyone skips school on groundhog day (a popular pasttime for many a student in my school). Quite frankly even now that I live about 100 miles from there I still don't give a shit and still wouldn't bother to pack into Gobbler's Knob at like 4 AM. I always saw groundhogs as pests. They're legal to shoot in Pennsylvania even if you don't have a hunting license.
You know... I've always thought it'd be worse to be stuck in a really long Ground Hogs Day loop... Like say, 20+ years? Wake up, it's 2002 again, make it to 2022, go to sleep, it's 2002 again...
@3:12 "Phil ..my prescription.. " omg that was the BEST!!!! **EDIT for question .. @8:05 the bricks seem to have writing on them ..the one in front of the temp.burrow says "stump warden" ..what are they all for??
I love that film...The 90s where the best years to live in :-)
One of my all time favorite movies is Groundhog Day (1993). I can watch it over and over and.......... :-)
"They say we're young and we don't know

@@MikeBMW 6AM ~ AGAIN!? "Nice going guys, you're playing yesterday's track."
Eric Lozen I see what you did there lmao 🤣

Cute little town...you don't see groundhogs in libraries everyday...lol..
Phil looks pretty good for doing his job for nearly 150 years!
Yeah I was wondering about that, how many versions of Phil have there been!? Pretty sure they can't live that long 😂
In the wild, groundhogs can live about 5 to 7 years. In captivity, they can live almost 12 years. Thanks for watching all this time

A great movie, seen it so many times now. Interesting tradition of Ground Hog Day!
This was fun. Hope you get back for the big day. I would love to experience through your eyes. 👍👍☮️
I'm gonna try

It was a lot of fun exploring the town
Hello from Punxsutawney!
That was a fun video, Chris! Thanks! I have a groundhog living in my neighborhood. I often see him munching vegetation next door. Sometimes he ducks under my wood fence and visits my back yard.
Maybe he's a distant relative of Phil!
Thank you for not making fun of us in PA with such a crazy tradition. It’s awfully cold in February, we have to find fun where we can! I have never been there but have friends that have gone for the festivities they said it was huge fun.
This is great. Now you have helped me make up my mind about posting my video of a groundhog that visits my backyard. Cute creatures.
Animal videos are always fun

Thanks! Many more to come
You Chris are a maverick..i just love your channels itenerary!!! Stay awesome!! 👊😎✌💣💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for the great video. Watched Groundhog Day for the millionth time today. Interesting to know the reality of it.
All the best!
The statues randomly around town is so weird 😂
In Louisville, KY, we have horse statues everywhere that are themed to their location, just like the Phills in Punxy!
Drove thru Punxsutawney PA this week with my Truck , after i picked-up Lumber in a nearby Mill .
I love these videos, so much to see. I hope you keep making them.
Ha!!! That’s to funny. For years they have turned their city into a shrine and a tourist attraction for a rodent. 😁
That was a great vlog. Thanks for doing this area, I've always been curious of this area since watching the movie years ago.
Well that was fun! Knowing I am only around 45 miles from Punxsutawney Pa I live in Harrisburg nice to have you here)))) Also my birthday is Feb 2 end ......
You gotta go for your birthday
ure a lot further than 45 miles lol
@@paullondon4619 .... Not sure exactly but still not that far away have not been up that way for many years.
Chris... You always go to the coolest places !!👍😎😀❤
Grew up in the area. Used to skip school and go to groundhog day. I remember seeing bill murray there. Was fun but super cold!
As I watch this video ..it advertised the movie here in Australia on T.V.
I have seen it about 5 times ..good movie .. 🤗
Thanks for taking us along
Thank you,Great to see you..You Rock,,Safe Travels..
Awwwww! They're so cute! I want a groundhog! lol
Too cool!! This is right up there with what we like to discover! Thanks for sharing Chris!
My dad's all time favorite movie. From that day forward he made sure Ground Hog Day rivaled Christmas. We gave gifts, had Pizza and invited guests ..
This was great Chris very enjoyable thanks for sharing educational as always Cheers!
Loved this video! Thank you!

Haha they claim he is like 80 years old. There's a while story to it.
@@MobileInstinct Wow, 80 ?, that's some age lol. x
Nice little town!!
Thanks for sharing the Vid! What a cool piece of History. And 50% is probably better than the local weather ! 😂

Cool video! One of my favorite movies.
I live near puxatawny and my family goes there every year
"he is in there with his wife OR girlfriend..."😅🤣 you will never know...
You know that groundhogs flexing on all the other groundhogs, he lives an amazing life
Love it!!! Pat
AWESOME
I love this channel one of my favorites 💯👈😎
Nicely done tour of the town, but you will never get me to touch a wild animal the way those people do. I think that's insane.
That is my place of birth. It was nice to see the town again
Thanks for showing this. I didn't know the movie was filmed in another place and that the actual town is so different.
So loved this video. Thank you ...
He lives in the library. That is too adorable.

Was that Phil that escaped at the end of the segment and got his justified freedom 👍. Great video
Great video. Thank you.
Love the film groundhog day.
Wow its amazing

Love this video. Any chance you can do a shoot at Woodstock, Illinois in locations where all the characters appeared in the movie?
very sweet and interesting....maybe I will go someday... :-)
I watched this on repeat 😃
So cool
This was my birthplace, and while I haven’t lived here for 45 years, I visit twice a year. I’ve never been sure why, somehow, that Woodstock, IL, with all due respect to them, filled the bill for a movie location more appropriately than Punxsutawney itself. I don’t find that Punxsutawney and where they filmed look much different.
My understanding is that filming in town would have disrupted the 36/119 traffic too much, but I haven't confirmed that.
What was written on the bricks that were on the stage?
This place isn't weird for everyone who isn't Native Pennsylvania.
I grew up within 40 miles of Punxsy and have never bothered to go to the groundhog day celebration. Even in high school where we had teachers from Punxsy go there to film students in case anyone skips school on groundhog day (a popular pasttime for many a student in my school).

Wow I had no idea Phil just picks a paper I just assumed he literally sees or doesn't see his shadow.
Instead of Gobblers Knob, they could call it Turkey’s Wood.
You know... I've always thought it'd be worse to be stuck in a really long Ground Hogs Day loop... Like say, 20+ years? Wake up, it's 2002 again, make it to 2022, go to sleep, it's 2002 again...

**EDIT for question .. @8:05 the bricks seem to have writing on them ..the one in front of the temp.burrow says "stump warden" ..what are they all for??
To help fund the repair or replacing of sidewalks etc. They will often engrave bricks with whatever the donor wants. Name, company, etc. 😉
Fun video! If Phil and Phyllis had a son, would he be Rephil?
I live here and everybody is obsessed with phill
My college roommate was from Punxsutawney
I wish you gave some back story on this. What it means when he comes out for people not living in the US?
We now have a police groundhog and police dog statue for punxsys K-9
Gobblers knob.....I thought we had some strange place names in the uk but this is hilarious
we have those names too.
Groundhogs are edible, they're tender and delicious. They are similar to rabbit in taste.
Phil is looking quite gray, his time is coming. I wonder if there is a Phil JR?
You should go back Feb 2nd and video it
Is that really the same groundhog from the actual movie itself? He must be a senior citizen by now! Lol
HA! Knob 😆
I clicked so fast!
Idk how you didnt laugh every time you said that
Doesn't Phil occasionally bite the man that holds him up? I heard that somewhere.
Yeah , I actually got to meet his handler once and he said that Phil has bitten him before
