I hope there is still time for humans to learn from orangutans. Forget us teaching them sign lsnguage-we have to learn their language.

Orangutans have such a gentle look about them. Not saying they are not powerful or strong. Their hands and feet are like a vice! They can hold on to anything with ferocity and power. I have the utmost respect for their natural strength, but also I adore their maternal instincts and their unconditional love for their babies. Chimpanzees are also extremely protective of their babies but I've seen mother orangutans and this crushed my heart, seeing a mother orangutan holding her baby so tight, trying to protect the baby from poachers as she takes her last breath fighting. This disgusting Palm Oil Plantations gutting the homes of these beautiful apes. People being told to clear out the forests, and if anything gets in their way, kill it. The lack of respect for life and nature is sickening. These creatures are so protective, so loving. Their children's cries are heartbreaking. I've loved orangutans for so long, respected their immense power and beauty, as well as their incredible ability to teach, and learn, to pass on knowledge and experience. Their cries are so human like. Their cries of fear make you want to grab one and hug the little fuzzball. Their little faces all tell a story. Those eyes are so beautiful and inquisitive. They NEED to be held, to have their mama hold on to them. Sadly all the baby orangutans you usually see are either orphaned due to a poacher killing it's mother, or a Plantation mercenary clearing out the forests. The babies become a "toy", or a "mascot" for the workers to tease, scare, torment, using them for their own amusement and in the process terrorizing this little fuzzball into shock. It always makes me physically sick to see how people use animals as playthings. What people do to kittens, puppies, baby animals like chimps and orangutans are so similar to humans they play "human" games. I can't even imagine how they are capable of doing those things? I can't for the life of me even contemplate the garbage these sick freaks do to these little helpless babies. I wish I could help. They are such incredible creatures. To cuddle, play, and feed them would be a dream!

You can help, by watching your own consumption and educating others around you. Locals don't kill orangutans, our appetite for palm oil does. They are just means to an end, it is easy to fixate on poachers being the evilest of all evils but it is us, both in developed and developing nations with our endless hunger for products that contain palm oil. We are the ones killing these orangutans, we are the one destroying the second oldest rainforest on planet Earth with our overconsumption.
