I have 10 year old Autistic twins and our Lab is fantastic with them. He knows when they need a snuggle and a lick and he knows when to leave them alone. He's such a good therapy dog inadvertently!
The boys are very respectful of him too and he has his crate which is his space and if he needs a break he'll go in there and the boys know to leave him to snooze.
We love our Lab and I'd recommend them as a breed to anyone!
We have two quite large 3 year old littermates (90 and 96 lbs). We also have little kids. Our dogs are so gentle with our kids and also with new unknown kids who just run up to them and hug them; they merely wag their tails and do give the kids kisses. We really did not train them for this, but I guess growing up from puppies with loud jumping little kids around, they are used to it. If we go to a dog park, one if my guys will find every little kid to get pets before even smelling every other dog’s butt! Same dogs with me are much more aggressive (in a sweet way) and not as cautious for running into you and rough housing. Our labs grew up in a calm house and turned out to be such wonderful dogs with very little training. I would love to say we did such a good job, but honestly, the labs made it easy! They just listen and want you to be happy.
should the lab be an inside house dog? what do you think about letting dogs sleep in the bed? I've seen an article where a woman eventually got parasites in her eyes and they determined it was by sleeping with her dog
Inside dog yes but only because we dont have an outside. Bed, sofa and such are a no go.
Yes, most dogs, except Livestock Guardian dogs, are inside dogs. All dogs should get exercise outside daily, but labradors should not be kept outside. Don’t ever let a dog sleep in your bed. Setting clear boundaries shows your dog who is boss.
We had a husky and black lab my black lab lifted my son in the air right infront of me because the husky went to attack my 4 year old shes amazing lifted him and the couch was behind him so he fell onto the couch she stood infront of the husky unfortunately had to rehome the husky to a home with no kids xx
Thanks for your good sense videos. I child proof my labs and dog proof children to the greatest extent possible but never trust a dog to be totally safe.
