This is really awesome. I don’t see many people doing covers of the early 90s warp-era music like b12, analogue bubblebath 3, etc. would love to hear the egg or eggshell.
Well done. Used to be my absolute favourite Autechre track, not easy to say now that I've delved deeper into their catalog but it definitely remains one of them.
@@bleepsandboops Yessir. Was happy to finally get the Artificial Intelligence Vol. 1 comp at a decent price a couple of months ago. Also got the Garbage EP for an obscene price but that's a rare occurrence, lol.
Such a great track. I love how it’s really quite noisy and messy, a quality seriously lacking for me in the more clinical separation of frequencies obsession existing in later electronic music. Nice job 👍
- My 3 favourite Acid lines would be Voodoo Ray Obviously, Plasticity and Crystel. A Few years back I think I went a bit mad and only listened to Autechre for about 2 months, now I can only listen to Crystel and fold4, wrap5 by them. You got my hopes up when I saw this upload having asked in various places if anybody could accurately recreate the Acid pattern in Crystel, I got told it was a 202 and not a 303, but no takers, I imagine to exactly recreate this line would be tricky for even Autechre without the original pattern data. To the uninitiated with wax in their ears from another room your attempt might seem similar, now the drums however accurate don't do anything for me, it's the Acid line that gets me on an emotive level, so for me it is not at all close enough, sorry, no cigar.
The acid line bugged me a lot. It's funny how different the glissando between the SH-101 (and in turn the emulation on the S1) and the MC202 is. I was going to hold off making this until someone came up with a reasonably priced 202 clone but caved and got the S1 instead to try and replicate it, but they're different beasts. Has to be a 202 too, since the range on the 303 isn't wide enough for Crystel. As far as I can see/tell, the 202 you can program in a similar way to the 303, so each note has its own glide and accent, which means you can control the staccato and do that 'scoop' up to certain notes like a 303. Having spent ages trying to dissect the Crystel part, you just can't do it on the S1/101... the notes are there in the right order, but the gliss/slide doesn't operate in the same way which means you never get that scoop into notes. Let me know if you find any closer versions, would love to hear it properly done on an original 202 👍
@bleepsandboops - Yeah I totally get you, no disrespect for your effort ✌️ I had a Red SH-101 for almost 40 years, sold it and got a SH-01A, TB-03, TR-06, TR6S and some other goodies (not all with the sale of the SH-101) I just got the Retrokits RK-008 MIDI recorder which gives me quite a few options, I've recreated Voodoo Ray entirely and the Plasticity line but that Crystel acid line I think will remain elusive.
I think it's just E, C, G, C, E, C, C, C, G at different octaves (at least that's what I programmed in)... the trick seems to be getting the octave and glide in the right place!! How are you finding the RK recorder? It's on my GAS-list for sure!
@bleepsandboops - It's funny how some people can study Jimi Hendrix and get very close to his tone and technique but it will only ever be an imitation, whereas this acid line using a 202 and the exact programming should in theory be identical, I think there is delay on it also, without a 202 I'm not going to attempt it. The RK-008 is a lovely thing, each of the 16 available songs has only 64kb which equals 10240 notes but record CC data and that soon gets eaten up, there are workarounds using short track lengths and the thin data option as well as muting and transposing different tracks in song mode, I had an Alesis-MMT-8 back in the day so I know how to get the most out of it. I'm looking to see if the Chocolate BT Wireless MIDI Controller is compatible with the BLE mode on the RK-008 as a way to change parts remotely, as I'm foremost a guitarist so my hands are busy.
Sounds awesome! I wanted to try one since looking at the MMT8 for ages (it seems to handle live performance way better than how my MC50 does...) - very interested to know how you get on!
Thanks so much! I was holding off for the MS1-MkII, but (as with much of Behringer's stuff) it's still not released... so caved to youtube pressure and got the S1 instead 😁 Pros; Super easy to use and sounds awesome. Does a load of weird things the original SH101 couldn't ever do, 4 note polyphonic with parameter sequencing too. Portable and FUN - it's been a while since I lost a few hours with a synth and a pair of headphones... Cons; TRS MIDI ports. Vertically mounted audio output seems like an accident waiting to happen. Can't chain patterns, and the sound is tied to the pattern with no way to turn that behaviour off. Menu diving with random LED codes is a bit awkward, but that's getting picky..! Let me know what you decide to do!!
@@bleepsandboops yea man ive been hooked since your first video. For me its tough because the s1 has some great features and i love its size for my ever decreasing setup space but dislike the smaller knobs it has. On the other hand the behringer is asthetically perfect/probably easier to dial in but at least triple the size.
I've gotten used to it now, so it's not all that bad. Also you've got to factor in that the MS1 v2 still isn't out! Part of it was me being impatient 😂😂

Absolutely amazing stuff, I couldn't do this back in the day when I had the gear and I couldn't do it now. This has truly made my day!!!
Yeah same.
Thanks so much!
Will have to revisit this album now! Thanks for the reminder.
It's such a strong mission statement - also Warp re-issued it recently on vinyl, so there's no better time to get hold of a copy!
