    Not sure how known about this is but the "chair drag" sample is actually a microphone placed on the inside of an ammo box lid (aphex mentioned this in his soundcloud comments awhile back)

    • @bleepsandboops

      @bleepsandboops  Год назад +15

      Yep - I like the older gear since it gives you a bit of an insight into how it might have been done back in the early 90s, but I have to admit using a better sequencer definitely helps with more complex stuff!!!

      according to richard, its a rusty ammo box

    • @AutPen38
      @AutPen38 Год назад +7

      Apparently he used a wireless microphone inside the rusty ammo can, so it was possibly the sound of the lid being taken off. It has natural reverb (from inside the tin) that makes it sound like it was recorded in a tunnel or corridor. The "bubbly" speech was probably RDJ himself mumbling into the same microphone rather than sampling something off the telly (like he did with other tracks).

    One of my favourite things by Aphex, this rhythm is a perfection! Like it was created with found percussion in mind! Everyone should think outside of the box and apply something else than overused 808s. Once I used the sound of two pulled out wisdom teeth being struck, so even that useless stuff may find its place in the universe 😂

    I've not touched them 'really' for years now - far too busy with work. But this video, the tweaking, the fun of finding out how a sound is made - the general 'farting around' and experimenting.... man, I escaped reality and had a blast. Really wish I could dive into this hobby again.
    I'm very jealous of all the knowledge and skills you've got - it's obvious your passionate. Thanks for the content mate, really cheered me up.

      let's make a deal.
      if you don't start using that gear again and keep up excuses not to, you have to give it away to somebody who deserves it.
      somebody who hasn't the luxury of stashing gear. so if you don't want to loose a bunch of gear use it.
      f work. i mean once again if you have the luxury of stashing gear, you must have enough money, so work less.
      wanna die thinking on your deathbed wishing this or that? feel that sh***y feeling in your gut? good, that is your common sense telling there is more in life.

Part of the reason I started doing these was just to try and switch off from all the other stuff that's going on, and to try to justify the rack of bad gear that's been gathering dust!

    So good, I guess Alberto Balsam is the best Aphex Twin track, I heard this in the 'beginning' of internet, pré-youtube (I live in the jungle, we didn't listen to this kind of music, thanks Kazaa!!) and went crazy about have everything from him (just knew him fo the AMP Mtv videos, Come to Daddy, On, Ventolin and Windolicker).
    To do the chair effect you need a certain kind of wood chair to be scrubbed in a certain kind of wooden or porcelain floor, with a certain weight above (siting) the chair my friend!

    Don’t now why I thought Aphex Twin was uncoverable, but no, he is and you have made it.

      Thanks! Tbf I think *most* Aphex is un-coverable.. as soon as you start needing Buchlas, massive Korg modulars and custom software, just walk away..!!!

      @@bleepsandboops it's something very haptic and real, that can't be fully recreated in a video. It's not just immediate feedback, which you can get (given low latencies) with software synthesizers and a midi keyboard. Much like playing a resonating string instrument.
      I've discovered my father (born in 55) likes the same things about working with synthesizers.
      In any case, it's a wonderful thing and I hope you'll keep sharing, modulating and guessing your way to certain sounds.
