You know what.....whatever you spoke in the vid.....I was literally imagining myself speaking....coz now am in 12th,giving Olympiads, looking forwards towards jee mains, and most imp I also wish to study abroad!!!....but coz of jee, I couldn't focus on this thing!! Am thinking to apply after 2 years of my batchlors...is it okay to apply in you course between, plz help I got no idea!!if not...am thinking to apply for masters, so basically I will get 4 years in my hand to make my resume strong!! Will this work?😕 Also plz let me know where do we get to know about the subjects of the essay!! Lots of love❤️❤️❤️
And one more thing...I heard that the probability to get admission abroad for batchelors is more than in masters, is this true??plz help me with this too!!
Totally agree with the extra curricular part, most students at their prime teenage time get into the rat race of jee and not work on acquiring skills and finding their passion. I actually have created a document with all the arguments and want to get people aware about it but I don't have that kind of followers so if you wanna put out something like that on your channel please hmu we can maybe help other teenagers
pro tip: Even if u don't get into any top clg in India or outside. Don't worry just remember to keep in touch with the guys in top colleges. I can tell you in India every clg is the same just whether it is IIT or Nit or any other clg , it is the quality of students and their peer group which helps then excel in everything.
Dude, you made 2 BIG mistakes while applying 1) You didn't apply to any safe schools (some schools which have a higher acceptance are so if you get rejected from all your other options you can still study in the US) 2) To apply to good schools you need both excellent marks and also extraordinary ECs, because marks count for only about 40% of the admissions process
@@xyx6775 Nah bro. It's for both people. Just that even if americans screw up a bit in their acad they still got chances to get in. But if esp indians screw up a bit in their acad like in AP, sat or boards ,life becomes harder for them. But overall ECs and essays have the most weightage for both people
The reason BITS acceptance rate is less cuz every guy in India writes the exam whereas not everyone applies to the ivies in the US only those that think they might have a chance. Also if u apply to the US don't just apply to the ivies cuz those are dream universities for every International student I suggest also apply for some safety and some target schools.

Bits pilani has degraded a little bit imo, private colleges like vit vellore has recent nirf2020 rank of 15 and thapar is at 28 but bits pilani is at 30 which is surpising considering it is the "best" private college. Vit vellore over took it it seems.
“Berkeley araam se mil jaathatha”. This sentence just shows the little research you’ve done about the whole college application process. It’s a holistic process, it’s not ALL about test scores. Just having good test scores isn’t a guaranteed entry. You probably didn’t have good extracurriculars or essays. Passion is super important and going by the way you spoke in this video, I think you were applying just for the heck of it. There wasn’t really any passion behind your extracurriculars, your essays were probably not good enough. There are multiple factors that are considered. If you had applied to the UCs you would’ve had to write personal insight essays too- which are very important. It isn’t easy getting into Berkeley. Even toppers/valedictorians do not get into top colleges sometimes because other parts of their application may be lacking. Scholarship and financial aid processes are different for US and non US citizens. This is a misleading video with a lot of misinformation💀
You do realise he had good ecs and he spent 3 months on the essays itself sure it doesn't have complete info and might seem misleading but stop discreading him?
@@rezi9754 see its not about just getting into top ones...he should have had backup schools. even the top ones who have so much apply for backup schools. by only applying into top ivy leagues dosent make any sense. and yeah to be honest this is a "misleading video with a lot of misinformation."
I mean if you really did want to study in the us you should've also applied to a couple of safety schools and reach schools instead of applying to all the high end schools. Pretty dumb.
Nonetheless This guy's father is a very rich man .So he applied In every college and ended up with 70000 rupees wasted .And does not even regret about this
Lot of misinformation about US colleges, information about scholarship is misguiding. Selection into US colleges has nothing to do with the interview. Rules for scholarship and financial aid for international students are different from that for US citizens. Public universities work differently compared to private universities. Scholarship regulations are different in different colleges for STEM and non STEM branches. UC Berkeley is easy eh? SAT scores is not 'the major' selection criteria in US colleges, some Universities, like Chicago don't want SAT SCORES. This is largely based on ill perceived information about how admissions are processed in US universities. Please be correctly advised on the college rankings, you must apply according to the rankings based on your choice of subject and not overall rankings. Please compare the different rankings e.g. QS, THE, US news, etc. and then come to a decision. UC Berkeley is a very highly ranked college and not easy to get in.
Thanks for this info. But can u elaborate the true things (criteria)about how to get into harvard or Stanford Universities as an Indian student who has just completed there 11th grade studies
@@khushi7801 I'm glad someone pointed this out. 1) MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Amherst and Brown are the only need blind universities. they admit students without taking into account their financial need. and all admitted students get financial aid depending on family income. other unis offer scholarships but those are a very small part of the total fee and very competitive to receive. also your financial needs can significantly reduce the chance of getting in 2) extracurriculars are not something to compensate for average grades. academics, extracurriculars, recommendation letters, interviewer's feedback and personal statement are all separately graded and taken into account. in terms of academics even 1580 is pretty bad, there are THOUSANDS applying with 1590 and 4.0 gpas. But that doesnt mean you cant get in as long as all the other components are outstanding. 3) doing a ton of random stuff doesnt count. Even if you do one extracurricular and show that you are super involved and passionate you get the same score as doing multiple extracurricular. Quality over quantity 4) if u do stuff just for the sake of resume is pointless. Admissions officers are going to figure tht out. 5) do well with the essays (personal statement) 6)do well in school and have good teacher recommendations This guy did pretty much everything wrong Ivy league wants students who have a passion and a vision Also do stuff where u give back to your community. Not random volunteering but something you care about consistently engage in. Take leadership roles, better yet take take initiative and start your own thing I was too late when i learned all this, so start early Everything from grade 9-12 counts Also do things tht you do just for pleasure, such as hobbies. Example- if you love reading, start a blog post and write in it about things you read... It doesnt have to be top level like extracurricular cuz it's just your hobby

This literally happened with me. This exact scenario. When you were dictating it, I felt like you were talking about me. It left me with goosebumps honestly because it is a pretty recent experience for me. And luckily, I myself might be joining either BITS Pilani or Goa as a dualite this year. I can so so so relate to everything that you said in the video - just 2 months being left for Mains and BITSAT and Advanced, otherwise the fear of being screwed. And bruh, it's just we who know how it feels to start over preparing for JEE, once you have left it... to not let the thoughts of regret get to you... to not feel like oh I should have applied to UCs as well. Why did I just go for T10s... to finally let it sink deep in that your dream of going to US is over. But that is what gives the biggest lesson of all. And that is to rise above failures. Hope to meet you sometime in the future! You are doing a great work by sharing your life experiences. Also, even I can totally relate to "wtf was i even thinking applying to harvard?" and "i wud hv made it to the ucs but then u have to spend the cash". We need more of such failure stories celebrated rather than 10000000000 videos on RUclips celebrating the ppl who got into Ivy leagues. We didn't. And we still rose back up. And we are doing good. (man even the interviewer telling me that i hv a grt chance is also sooo truuu.. i got 2 interviews from Princeton and Stanford... both went reallllyy well and then here, take ur rejection letter and one wait list turned rejection lol) Thank You and Kudos to make me and more ppl like me aware of the fact that they are not alone.
Lmao this guy don't know what he's talking about. Bits receives around 1.4 lakh applications a year, and the universities in the US recieve around 40k on an average. So obviously bits will have a narrower acceptance rate. All American schools have a holistic approach towards the admission process, unlike the colleges here, which make a decision on your acceptance purely based on a test score. The essays that he was talking about help the admission officers get to know you on a personal level, in order to judge whether you'd be a good fit for that particular college and it's community. Also, kinda weird to be texting the Princeton alumnus and bragging about your acceptance to bits, indian colleges don't come nowhere close to the ivies in any aspect imaginable.
I don’t really know why you didn’t apply to safety colleges other than ivy leagues which are really good too like u worked so hard you should have applied to schools like ucla or somewhere. Berkeley isn’t easy it’s very hard tho
Yes plus all the schools he applied to require a score of 1500+ for a decent chance. I don't get it how did he expect the ivies to take him in with a score of 1440. My brother got a 1540 and yet got rejected by all ivies but got into Berkeley
@Raj Mishra bro extra curricular mean what ? Can you explain me please....I mean what are the thing that will count in extra curricular and skills on which they will giving admissions.....

I can't tell if you are over optimistic or just incredible. I had a very great 10th std and scored a distinction. But everyone around me told me the acceptance percentage of iits and bits and us universities and created this demon in my heart and I underestimated myself. I unfortunately went to really shitty coaching classes and the pressure because of lack of results enveloped me. I now realise that I have the capacity to go to iitb but because of the incredible stress I couldn't. I cried 2 times in 11th, and when pandemic struck in march 2020, I was happy I had finally gotten a break. I stopped giving a shit about anything but that was just me in denial. I still had that stress in my subconscious. Hut now I wasn't really studing so I got really bad marks in JEE. Then in feb 2021 I actually started studing. After 3 months of the same pressure, I got accepted in VIT. Everyone told me that don't try for the sky achieve but looking at you, I think I should have aimed for the sky. I might not have reached the aky but I would be in a much better place than where I am today. Thnx man, you are like a mentor and a live example to me
Let me tell you the mistakes he did : He actually did a lot for his application like Participating in the competition which he lead and brought it under top 10, also he did participate in Olympiad for application, but did you notice something ? He did not had deep passion for whatever he has done, all the things he did were for the sake of application and not for personal joy or satisfaction, MIT looks for people who are truly passionate about a thing and wants to make a career out of it, but he failed to full fill this requirement and so he got rejected, on other hand if he really did had passion for particular thing and have even done 1/2 of what he told in the video, then he might have got accepted. Thank You!
But aren't those Ecs the thing that shows how passionate you are about something? And weren't those pretty good? I mean yeah it does show he wasn't passionate about the thing but his ecs were prettty good and his scores were too do how else would the unis know someone is passionate about the particular field?
@@rezi9754 you can easily see the randomness in his ecs, giving a pure hint that he is is doing that to just impress the uni, over that even in his essays he would have failed to showcase that if he is passionate or not and essays are not that easy as they seem to be, they should actually match with your personality and ecs and other things, so they even take interviews to find a link in all the things and when they failed to do so, it is clear the student is not actually passionate about the career he would be choosing.
I absolutely agree with this. I do believe you choose two things you are passionate about. One for the major you are applying to and one for what you are truly passionate overall. It doesn’t have to be the biggest most top unbelievable thing. It can be something simple. They want to see that you are genuine in your essay and how you will take that and enhance the college (at the end of the day they want students who will make them look good. They already have the legacy, they already have the students from all over the world, they already have rich kids whose parents pay for them to get in etc. They are looking for something they haven’t seen tons of year after year)
Congratulations on your great achievements. But I would have to say *You cannot compare Princeton and BITS on the basis of acceptance rate* because you yourself know why. BITS/IIT/NIT all accept you with open arms after you score great in exams. Whereas.. just look at the amount of time you spent on writing essays for colleges to proves that you are 'passionate' and 'worthy'. Getting rejected is no big deal really. But that comparison is.... LMAO
In extracurricular you have to do the things you really love to do ....with so many extracurricular like Olympiads and tech fest they would have not able to categorised you ...in the sense of what make u unique ....this is one of the reason u got rejected
Ikr he didn't have an ACTUAL passion that he absolutely loved to do. It kinda sucks how very few indian students have actual passions because of the sheer academic pressures put on by the society

Colleges like these really need to see something in you that is standing out, and that's not easy. Put it in a simple way, usually these colleges need like (30000-50000)$ each year. As most Indian students will need scholarships, think about it, are you really worth investing 200,000 $ in? To be worth that, you really,REALLY need to work hard and not try to do anything you don't like.
The reason that the acceptance rate at Princeton is 5% and BITS has a lower one (at ~0.1%) is that every science kid in India regardless of how they are academically applies to give BITSAT and JEE. Whereas, usually people who even consider applying to Princeton are the best of the best who actually believe they have a chance to get in. It's like saying it's easier to be one of 5 out of 100 genius kids vs 1 out of a 1000 below average ones, which it isn't. Loved the video though!
You should have applied to a couple of safety schools along with the ivy leagues if you were serious about studying in the States. Berkeley and University of Texas are pretty great schools! Anyway I am glad everything worked out for you eventually
Just imagine all the 19000 guys if they had enough money to put on applications like this guy. Once, I had a conversation with a Professor in University of Southern California and she advised me not to do things just for the sake of application, She told me, "If reading or watching TV-shows and are your only interests and you do nothing extra, then cool, be honest about it. The people reviewing your application are professionals and they will figure the truth out either way" .
Tell me more about it. What’s it that they look for in an applicant and what are the chances of achieving a scholarship just by academic excellence but no extraordinary extracurriculars.
@@jashnchahal7544 To summarize the answer to your question would be quite vague because there is no perfect answer to this question. But I'll try my best as per my understanding and knowledge. 1. There are no particular credentials these colleges look for. What I know is, that they want you to decribe yourself and your passion in the most simplest form. For this, Essays are really important. Essays are the only part of your application where you'll be able to tell your story. And about your story, keep it lowkey- simple and be honest about it. As for your Acedamic scores and Standardized-test scores, they are important but not everything. They contribute a portion of your application just like your essays, You have to present these portions in the best way possible as you can and make up your entire Application. 2. About scholarships, they vary from college to college, Some provide scholarships on the basis of your acedamic perfromance and some provide financial-aid on the basis of your need and some don't provide at all. Basically, you'll have to check the options for every college.
Brilliant stuff! Thanks for sharing. From the experiences of my son I can confirm this - preparations should start very early - right from 6th standard May be. Not just about academics but more about how one would want to impact the world. Very little are fortunate to have a clear vision and even little get to follow through and stay committed to the vision. When it comes to SOP - statement of purpose - I believe selection is done on how holistic the applicant is.

Hey bhaiya, This is Shreedhar, applying to US this year. I really think you didn`t do proper research! Firstly, the techfest and makerspace won`t be said as two different things as you presented more or less the same incubator. Participating in olympiads just for the sake of it actually lands you in a difficult situation as they start doubting your abilities. And then interview is a deciding factor and as you experienced, NO ONE can gurantee admissions. The biggest of all, you only applied to reach schools that clearly says you did a pretty bad research for the application process. I am in the same boat as for opportunities. I was in Kota for 11th, had only JEE in my mind. Decided to apply to US this March. I have already applied to 5 schools and will be applying to 15 more. Wish me luck!! And have a great life ahead!!
1. They were completely different competitions with different projects 2. I did address the the Olympiad point, not sure if you saw it. 3. I gave Princeton interview and my interviewer clearly said that interview scores matter the least. Not sure about other colleges, but scores and extra-curriculars are the top priority. Good luck

Academic Excellence - High School GPA: Maintain an exceptional GPA (most admitted students have a GPA close to 4.0/4.0 in the U.S. grading system). - Challenging Curriculum: Enroll in advanced courses (e.g., AP, IB, or honors classes) if available. - Class Rank: If your school ranks students, being in the top 10% significantly improves chances. 2. Standardized Tests - SAT/ACT Scores: - SAT: Aim for 1500+ (out of 1600). - ACT: Aim for 33+ (out of 36). - Harvard is test-optional, but strong scores can enhance your application. - English Proficiency Tests (for International Students): - TOEFL: 100+ (iBT). - IELTS: Band 7.5+. 3. Extracurricular Activities - Showcase leadership, passion, and sustained commitment in activities outside the classroom. - Involvement in community service, sports, arts, research, or entrepreneurship is valued. - Demonstrate uniqueness and achievements, like winning national/international awards. 4. Personal Essays - Write compelling essays that reflect your personality, values, and aspirations. - Highlight experiences that shaped your worldview, challenges you overcame, or passions that drive you. - Focus on authenticity and storytelling. 5. Letters of Recommendation - Obtain 2-3 strong letters from teachers or mentors who know you well. - Recommendations should emphasize your intellectual curiosity, character, and contributions to the classroom or community. 6. Application - Submit your application via the Common App or the Coalition App. - Pay the $85 application fee (or request a fee waiver if eligible). - Include all required documents: transcripts, test scores, essays, and recommendations. 7. Interviews - Participate in an alumni interview (if offered). - Use the interview to articulate your interest in Harvard and share experiences not covered in your application. 8. Demonstrated Interest - Although not formally required, demonstrating a genuine interest in Harvard (e.g., attending virtual events, contacting admissions, or mentioning specific Harvard programs in essays) helps. 9. Financial Aid - Harvard is need-blind, meaning financial need does not affect admission chances. - Submit the FAFSA, CSS Profile, and other required financial documents to apply for aid. 10. Deadlines - Early Action:Typically in November (non-binding). - Regular Decision: Typically in January. - Monitor deadlines for international or transfer students if applicable. --- Key Bullet Points - Academic Excellence: GPA near 4.0, challenging coursework. - Standardized Tests:SAT 1500+/ACT 33+; TOEFL 100+ or IELTS 7.5+ for non-native speakers. - Extracurriculars: Leadership, passion, and sustained involvement in unique activities. - Personal Essays: Authentic, reflective storytelling. - Recommendations: 2-3 strong letters from teachers/mentors. - Application Submission: Use Common App/Coalition App; include all documents. - Interviews:Alumni interviews to share personal insights. - Demonstrated Interest: Genuine enthusiasm for Harvard’s programs. - Financial Aid: Need-blind admissions; apply separately for aid. - Deadlines: November for Early Action, January for Regular Decision.

1) MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Amherst and Brown are the only need blind universities. they admit students without taking into account their financial need. and all admitted students get financial aid depending on family income. other unis offer scholarships but those are a very small part of the total fee and very competitive to receive. also your financial needs can significantly reduce the chance of getting in
2) extracurriculars are not something to compensate for average grades. academics, extracurriculars, recommendation letters, interviewer's feedback and personal statement are all separately graded and taken into account.
in terms of academics even 1580 is pretty bad, there are THOUSANDS applying with 1590 and 4.0 gpas. But that doesnt mean you cant get in as long as all the other components are outstanding.
3) doing a ton of random stuff doesnt count. Even if you do one extracurricular and show that you are super involved and passionate you get the same score as doing multiple extracurricular. Quality over quantity
4) if u do stuff just for the sake of resume is pointless. Admissions officers are going to figure tht out.
5) do well with the essays (personal statement)
6)do well in school and have good teacher recommendations
This guy did pretty much everything wrong
Ivy league wants students who have a passion and a vision
Also do stuff where u give back to your community. Not random volunteering but something you care about consistently engage in. Take leadership roles, better yet take take initiative and start your own thing
I was too late when i learned all this, so start early
Everything from grade 9-12 counts
Also do things tht you do just for pleasure, such as hobbies. Example- if you love reading, start a blog post and write in it about things you read... It doesnt have to be top level like extracurricular cuz it's just your hobby

Hope to meet you sometime in the future! You are doing a great work by sharing your life experiences. Also, even I can totally relate to "wtf was i even thinking applying to harvard?" and "i wud hv made it to the ucs but then u have to spend the cash". Right. If a person don't have the hunger for something, it's not for him. The person should have clear cut understanding of what he wants to do
Lmao this guy don't know what he's talking about.

Thank You!

I agree totally
This video moved me on an intellectual and inspirational level, what a charming lad! You're wonderful for soldiering on and trailblazing 🔥
I am amazed by your own thoughts, planning and execution of career plan and the way you accepted the outcome and remained happy with the brighter side. Many wishes.
My story is also like yours. I am in class 12th right now. I was always interested in Robotics and went to tons and tons of competitions in grade 9th, 10th and 11th. (Came second nationally and 6th internationally). As I had good ECs I left my JEE preparation completely. And Now I am only focusing on SAT and SAT subject tests. Not to mention that like you, even I am relied on scholarships. Do you have any advice for me? I am not aiming for ivies/ Top universites but a decent US/Canadian university.
Don't apply for ivies if your scores aren't good
You can go for UC Berkeley, UCSD, UCLA, USC, Duke, Emory they ain't an ivy but they're topmost and decent.
Same here......i did few projects but didn't get any oppurtunity to take to any competetion.......also trying for abroad universities!
@@darshilshah7979 but do they give scholarships like 90 percent atleast?
@@nainithag9567 UC's do not offer any aid/ scholarships to international students. But you can check for merit based scholarships for other private universities on their respective websites.
Also getting 90% doesn't guarantee scholarships. (Or even admission as the admission process is holistic)
It's really nice how he can talk about rejection so openly.
You look like Shaurya Shinha... He got into Stanford 😀 Amazing guy though❤️
It's not just about score.Essay matters. US unis give priority to background. Not everyone get the same opportunities. They look for people who did their best with whatever they had. Also a good story is way more important. There are people who got into Harvard with 1400 sat score and a girl featured in MIT website got into MIT with 1460 sat score.
Man I feel you, I also didn't prep for JEE. Decided to apply to US universities. Didn't get into one of the top schools, but still satisfied where I am.
Where?
Where please tell I am looking for

Colleges like these really need to see something in you that is standing out, and that's not easy. Put it in a simple way, usually these colleges need like (30000-50000)$ each year. As most Indian students will need scholarships, think about it, are you really worth investing 200,000 $ in?
To be worth that, you really,REALLY need to work hard and not try to do anything you don't like.
4:47 What all 1.3B Indians are trying to apply for university?! I ran to my grandmother to see if she is preparing for real.
😂😂
The reason that the acceptance rate at Princeton is 5% and BITS has a lower one (at ~0.1%) is that every science kid in India regardless of how they are academically applies to give BITSAT and JEE. Whereas, usually people who even consider applying to Princeton are the best of the best who actually believe they have a chance to get in. It's like saying it's easier to be one of 5 out of 100 genius kids vs 1 out of a 1000 below average ones, which it isn't.
Loved the video though!
Humans like him are the cause of depression ! 😂 jk he’s really brilliant man !

Anyway, this guy is really active extroverted ( having a successful RUclips Channel is an example) and Institutes like MIT/Stanford looks for people who are extremely good at one thing than mediocre at many things. Most undergraduate level students who made into these institutes are IMO/IPHO/INAO/ICHO medalists. And those who fail to go there end up in IISc, IITs, CMI , ISI.

I like your attitude towards life, I am damn sure you will be very happy and successful in your life.
You mentioned that You started focusing on your extra-curricular just for the sake of those applications. Maybe, that's where it went in the wrong direction.
The mistake you have done is you directly applied for top universities in the world but you have not tried for best universities
You are truly an inspiration bhaiya🙏🏻❤️ and it's amazing how positive of a person you are😇❤️
I love your positivity man ! ❤️ Was feeling low regarding my step1 exam ! But thanks to you super happy! ❤️
Bold boy!! It takes nerves to tell the wrongs u have done and yet keep positive all through...great reflections bhai! Very useful for all dreamers...😊👍👍👍wishing u a great future

You made a mistake applying to only ivy Leagues.
Hey bhaiya,
This is Shreedhar, applying to US this year.
1. They were completely different competitions with different projects
2. I did address the the Olympiad point, not sure if you saw it.
3. I gave Princeton interview and my interviewer clearly said that interview scores matter the least. Not sure about other colleges, but scores and extra-curriculars are the top priority.
Good luck
I wish I had bank balance like my JEE rank😂
