- Surviving Salford 2.0 is a Vlogumentary set out to highlight and document some of the old parts of Salford that are sadly hanging on by the skin of its teeth... it is a follow up to the last video I did simply titled "Surviving Salford"
Due to the redevelopment in the area we are witnessing Salford change from one era to the next as I believe we are going through a transition period from the old to the new...hopefully this video will live long in the history of Salford so we can admire what used to be in the places that are now being redeveloped.....

Such a brilliant Vlogumentary again. So sad that the history of our towns and cities are being erased all the time. I know times change and we must move with the times, but why cant they (The Investors) incorporate old with new. Don't remove from the face of the earth all traces of our history and historic buildings and landmarks, and instead be proud of what we already have and give old structures a face lift. The old theatre in this video being a prime example. All that history at the end of the video of the covered up bricks and paving stones right at the end of my street. Very moving video and as usual beautifully delivered.

Very moving Mr. 🐒. Lovely job as always. There is indeed history all around us, under our noses so to speak. I grew up in Reddish and the place has it everywhere. I must say the council are very sympathetic to it also. Like restoring the old mills for housing and shopping with mixed results but trying all the same. Keep it up my friend you are doing valuable work here.
If you know the group trying to open the Theatre, I would suggest that they speak to the proprietors of the Plaza in Stockport. I’d imagine they’d have some very good advice regarding funding, grants and such like. Be great to see it open. Another example would be the Savoy Cinema in Heaton Moor.

my story is just like your dad's, my parents were married at the old St Clements and my dad was brought up on Clarence street, both my parents had their funeral service at the newer church, love the video mate Great Job
Ian McCaffery Really! Wow! That area holds so many memories. I love it round their. I would have loved to have seen it all those years ago.
When i did my dissertation at Uni i did research in to Salford and a lot of houses still had outside toilets in to the 1980's. I think the terraced houses still had ppl living in them even tho they were officially condemned.
I remember the Rag n Bone man with his horse and cart coming around Wheaters Crescent in lower braughton. My Gran used to make me a dish of 'baby' tea..very milky with sterilised milk 😊, she would call me and my twin sister 'typical salford street urchins coz we wid play im the gutters coz we were obsessed with the cobbles that handnt yet been covered with tarmac😂. I have so many nostalgic memories. I love that youre doing this.
Why do you not do one that explains the history of how Salford became a City in its own right despite being within the City if Manchester.
The story about the cathedral and the Catholics - my Gran was Irish Catholic - but that cathedral is hugely significant in to how Salford became its own City. Im not sure many ppl know about that 🤷🏼♀️
I remember houses down the right hand side leading to the bridge over the irwell on to the red path.
My maternal grandparents, (even my Aunt was born there)...were from Salford...My mother always said her mother wanted to go back, her father not...

Brilliant Vid and if I may some of my memories that you have unlocked...
1:13 - Mocha Parade - My mum used to shop on there and that's where I encountered my first break dancing crew in the 80's with a square of vinyl flooring and a ghetto blaster...
1:18 - The flats above the shops on Mocha Parade - A lad from school, Lee Fogharty used to live there. How I remember that AND his name I have no clue as he wasn't even a mate...
3:02 - Victoria Bingo - I never went but the little door to the RH side of the main entrance, in there was a video shop where you could rent VHS videos and the guy who ran it was a Scottish guy...
8:20 - The tram lines - They used run through and hang in mid-air after the landslide happened years ago giving the name to the area The Lanny...
17:44 - The drone footage - Panning up Leicester Road and over Manley Park on the right then at 18:03 the flats that come into view is Oakhill Court where my Nana and Grandad lived until they died...

Hello there I was born and Raised in north manchester until i was 14 and them we moved to Canada. But one thing i caught on your video was the Albert inn pub on short Street in lower Broughton. My Grandparents owned that pub in the 1950's and 60's .And went in there a few times with my parents before we moved to Canada. Thanks for the great videos you are doing a great Job on keeping the history of my hometown alive keep up the great work mate.

I was born in Eccles and grew up on Wild st off Eccles new rd then the precinct left Salford in 1985 but Salford still holds a place my heart brilliant content mate thank you!

I live about 7 miles from Salford and so I'm not familiar with the local history but the video drew me in and kept me watching. Again, extremely well put toghether and well thought out, and I loved your enthusiasm when you found the remains of the old street. My Gran and Grandad lived on Crook Street in Collyhurst and I can remember my sheer joy when after lots of research I found exactly where it stood and discovered a street was built exactly along the same line as Crook Street. Oh what Id give to see the remains of Crook Street! As always, keep up the brilliant work...your enthusiasm is a joy to see!

Lived in Higher Broughton in the sixties, loved it, as a child i could not ask for a better upbringing, you are obviously very talented film maker, excellent video and voice overs, well done....
My dad was born and raised in Broughton, he said it was a tough place to grow up but it was also a great place. This is a brilliant video. Excellently made and deeply moving, for this old exiled Salfodian. Makes me want to go home and help to preserve and honour the place. Not that it needs me, with this vastly more talented young man on the case. So I'll just be thankful for seeing it.

Make a film about..Graham Nash..I know it's not your usual thing, but would be good..or Harold Riley....painter...I was born in Hope...and lived in Talbot street of Tatton street..behind Salford Lads.club...my granddaughter he horse and cart and sold coal..I love history too..long time since I picked tar from between the cobbles And played piggy.

Daft as your Dad will tell you Salford and Manchester are hardly recognizable these days. Even as recently as the 80s it all survived.
Sadly like community spirt it’s nearly all gone. I am just thankful that I was able to see touch and experience some of the amazing places and things that have now gone or are no longer used. Keep up the good work it’s important people like you and Martin document these things.

Great video! My mum and her family came from Pendleton. There were little side streets off Lissadell st. My mum and parents lived on shuttleworth st..This street was bombed in the blitz and their house was gone. They ended up in Radcliffe but relatives who lived on other streets nearby were still living there in the late 50s around bomb sites. We used to visit when I was a kid and I loved playing with my cousins in the streets and bomb sites which they called crofts. All those houses were cleared in the 60s and the folk were all sent to Irlam o the heights.

@@daftmonkey7296 Apologies, I've only just seen your reply - it's an age thing ! I believe the ghost was seen by many people and the story the was always the same. The ghost was an actress, who took her own life by jumping off the balcony, landing near to the stage, this is the scene that my nana witnessed several times. The manager of the Vic didn't believe the stories he was told about the theatre ghost, that is until one night he witnessed this for himself when she 'landed' on the floor in front of him ! He had a heart attack, thankfully he survived....I wonder if he continued working there ?! Did your nana tell a similar story ? x

I pass this on a regular basis and always wondered what it was like inside. My mother in law was a regular visitor when it was a bingo hall before it finally closed.

Pretty cool to see those old tracks still laying in the street, that must've been something to see, those old cars filled with people on their way to work or home. This reminds of the Pacific Gas and Electric railway they used to have here in California. In California's short sightedness they abandoned all the lines, though PG&E still holds the Right-of -Way for a lot of these old lines. At one time Walt Disney wanted to reuse a lot of these old Right-of -Ways for a Monorail system, that would have covered roughly the same area, but he was shot down by the politicians. Now of course we have some of the worst traffic in the U.S.
Its good to see a young un interested in history. Keep it going.

I used to go to a pantomime every Christmas at the Victoria when I was a kid, I remember Mocha Parade being built, great video
