The one thing I’ve always admired about Leno is that he drives and enjoys everything in his collection. So many collector cars just get squirreled away in barnes and garages and never used. It’s refreshing to see a collector who isn’t afraid to take take his cars out and use them as they were intended to be used.
Plus: He buys cars to drive them - not as an investment or to brag about having the best, rarest, lowest milage concours car - although he could afford it easily, obviously.

As a ten year old (I’m now 40) my dad took me to a model shop and I saw this and immediately wanted it over all of the countless others… it is still my favourite car! ❤ Thanks Jay for giving us a drive out 🎉
When I was about 13 I started buying a weekly car magazine. One of the first had an article about the Bugatti T57 SC Atlantic. The featured car was the one registered in Englandc as EXK6, now owned by Ralf Loren. It was a blue colour then. I was struck by its sheer elegance, and it has been on my fantasy car-collection list ever since.
Before you decide that it was incredibly well engineered, did you know that the head and block are all of a single piece? Imagine having to do a valve job!
@@michaelbenardo5695these are fascinating to me because the engineering was all wrong, everything they stuck by ended up being backwards, but when set up right these cars are absolutely magical, to me it’s an evolutionary dead end in cars but such a cool one.
For sure it is one of the most beautifull vehicles in the world - in one league with the Jaguar E Type, the Volvo P1800, the Citroën DS, the Mercedes 300 SL and so on.
Jay mentioned Harry Miller and the dual overhead cam design. As Jay says later in the video, all the good ideas for early auto engineering originated in France. In fact Miller got the idea for his dual overhead cam design from the 1913 Peugeot Type L3 Coupe de l’Auto Voiturette Racing car. Miller’s designs ended up as basis for the Offenhauser and Meyer Drake Indy engines.
9:25 "the headlight is yellow because they did that in Paris..." No, not really a Parisian fad: those headlights are yellow because it was mandatory everywhere in France between 1936 and 1993. The rule was based on a 1933 study by the French Science Academy concluding that yellow light was less blinding and more efficient in foggy conditions (think of the British orange fog lights). The recommendation became law in 1936 with the added incentive it would help instantly identify French cars at night as opposed to foreign vehicles and specifically German ones in those times of heightened political tensions between both countries.
It's so much better seeing these cars actually rolling on the street! This gives them so much more appeal than just seeing them in a museum. Thanks for showing us these pieces of art in motion!
I love these cars. I saw a beautiful Voisin C25 once at an autoshow in Germany and it left such an impression on the young me. That was probably one of the experiences that led me to realize that automobiles can be not only well crafted, engineered or fast and loud, they can be works of art, looking like they are going 100mph while standing still. And that is something special in and of itself and its enough to justify a cars existence.

Jay, it's a stunning car. Thanks for sharing. One point about the car you may not be aware of, or you simply misspoke, the finish on the valve pans is not "Engine Turned". The process used is something called "Hand Scraping" . Typically seen on the ways of mills, and lathes. It's not only beautiful, but functional for getting the metal perfectly flat, and also giving it just enough texture to hold a film of oil. It takes a real master to do that type of work. As an old Machinist turned engineer, these kinds of things are what make me go "WOW!" Thanks again, and keep up the great work!

Ralph Lauren's Type 57 was exhibited several years ago at the Cleveland Museum of Art, along with gorgeous Art Deco jewelry and furniture made by other members of the Bugatti family.

Heres an idea. Why dont you Jay go make an episode (split in a few episodes of course) on Ralph Lauren's garage like a walk around same as a lot people have done in your garage? That, would be the video of the year.
An amazing idea, but given the cars they have, they could start a channel, release a video every 2 weeks, and they could be producing new videos for years.
Thanks Jay, I very much appreciate your generosity in sharing this kind of thing with us. Oh, and in becoming an old dude myself (I'm only 68) I appreciate your shining example of courage under actual fire and your toughness of getting right up after being clothslined on your Indian. After spotting it in the background of so many videos, I'm glad Jay finally decided to show us this beauty in detail. It may not be an original Atlantic, but that sure doesn't make it any less beautiful. Thank you Jay, keep them coming!
So fantastic to watch this drive and all the info Jay always gives.. Did anyone else flinch at 21:39 when Jay was searching for gears at the light and the view change suddenly made it look like Jay was backing into the car behind? WHEW!
Top notch! You are a class act Mr. Leno! Thanks for taking care of these cars and showing use so many awesome rides. I LOVE the start procedure of this one. The "dance" and having to position the manual choke into the perfect open/close spot makes me smile.
All Bugattis, IMHO, are beautiful. I had the pleasure/honour of working on the Guild's rebody of the 1935 Aerolithe concept car, and I would not be ready to install all those rivets again!! What a project! And the skins were all Elektron, too. But, the end result speaks for itself. Art in motion! Thanks, Jay!
Thanks Jay I always enjoy the videos and they are always informative. I have a 1919 Twin City Tractor that started its production in 1918 that has dual cams and 4 valves per cylinder
My lifelong appreciation of cars is always based on their looks. The sculpture. The Bugatti, Cord, Avanti, XKE and even Saab 96. All such a pleasure to look at.
I always see this car sitting in the corner of the garage. Stunning. Absolutely beautiful. Right hand drive. Gorgeous color. Any Bugatti is cool to me.🔥🔥❤️🤑😎🏁
Thank you, Mr. Leno for another awesome car review. I’ve always admired the Bugatti sitting in the back of your garage and wondering when you were going to display it on the show again. Thank you for that🙏🏽
I had a white Bugatti hot wheels when I was really little, 3 or 4, and it was the very first car I could identify and name at a glance. even at that age I could tell it was something special.
Thank you Jay for this great video that will endure the ages showing your Bugatti actually being driven. Please keep driving your ultra rare classics on video as it could easily become a one of a kind example of driving such automotive jewels.
In the 1960s, my neighbor had 2 - 1936 Bugatti race cars. One was red with a racing stripe. The other was covered. He also had a 1936 Bentley supercharged touring car. He drove that around town. Unfortunately, he died in 1967. His son sold the Bentley for college money but, I don't know what happened to the Bugattis. Good Memories.
When i seen the First episodes of Jay Lenos garage I started looking into what this car was, Found The aerolithe and the Alanatic. which inturn made me do more research into Jay's and Ralph Laurens cars, I have been waiting for this one for years!! Thank you Jay!
Bad Chad is banging one out a look alike for Jolene. He is working of pictures and doing it all by eye and taking his time doing so. It's quite interesting to follow his build as he is continuously refining the shape and creating something that looks a lot like the original, but given the method for designing it I wouldn't call it a real replica. Still there's so much work in shaping all those panels it takes a very special mind and an impressive set of skills to do it. Time after time I'm amazed at his skills when he free hand complexly shaped body panels and it ends up fitting together. He makes something very complex look way to simple. Note that I'm not on board with all his decisions when it comes to design, but I can't argue with his skills, and the results are way better put together than I would have imagined.
Thanks Jay. I like your show best of all when there is a history lesson for you to give us,and when there is no guest to chit chat with, which always seems to distract from getting close and intimate with the car. Great car and great informative video!
I agree Jay. I saw one in Paris , Ralph Laurens's Black version in the Louvre show when I lived there. Well driven by the original owner! I have to say I love your blue more ! For me its the roof line and riveted fin !
Utterly, utterly stunning car. Peak design for Bugatti. Now if only we knew where Mr Bugatti's personal Type 57C was, that would be the ultimate 'barn find' & literally priceless.
I'm with you Jay, all these beauties need to be driven and seen. I know of many rare old cars just locked away, no one gets to see them and enjoy them. Such a shame.
Finally, a title that isn't clickbait! That thing is a work of art, and the more you look at it, the more you appreciate the design of it. The sounds of the gears in the timing system are just wonderful!

Jay, I hope you came one day to fully realice what enormus contribution you have made to the car world by sharing in this channel yours impresive collection. Thank you!
17:11 I love Jay's dedication to the "old man left his blinker on" trope. Pretty sure he does it in every single video now lmao. Love you, Jay!
I wish Jay would talk about his painters and what they’ve done to finish the bodies when he reviews one of his rebuilds and restorations.
Yes, I didn't realise how good the paint is untill I noticed Jay's fingerprints on the spare cover as he replaced it.
it's one thing to see video of this car standing still. But to see a true enthusiast drive it in traffic is just amazing. Thankyou Mr. Leno.
Wish this was longer... Thank you so much for this one, Jay!
Hands down, the best Jay Leno Garage videos are of him and one of his own cars that he can geek out over
Heres an idea. Why dont you Jay go make an episode (split in a few episodes of course) on Ralph Lauren's garage like a walk around same as a lot people have done in your garage? That, would be the video of the year.
Lucky for Jay, he's wealthy / famous enough that Ralph's personal assistant would take his call.
So long as he wears denim!
@@GorbyrevAre the denim designs by Ralph Loren?
An amazing idea, but given the cars they have, they could start a channel, release a video every 2 weeks, and they could be producing new videos for years.
@@drewtokarsky3917 I'd think RR would consider this given Jays stature in the car world. It's not an vlogger it is Jay.
The new Tourbillon still alludes to the bolted center line featured on this old beauty! Gorgeous!
What a gorgeous car! I'm glad Jay lets it stretch its wheels under its own power every once in a while.
The best episodes are just Jay presenting the car and driving it, nothing else 😊
Thanks Jay, I very much appreciate your generosity in sharing this kind of thing with us. Oh, and in becoming an old dude myself (I'm only 68) I appreciate your shining example of courage under actual fire and your toughness of getting right up after being clothslined on your Indian. Helps me know I can still ride my KTM 790 Adventure like the wind etc.
Thank you for switching the channel to 4K. The aliasing is also gone. Big big improvement in video quality.
After spotting it in the background of so many videos, I'm glad Jay finally decided to show us this beauty in detail. It may not be an original Atlantic, but that sure doesn't make it any less beautiful. Thank you Jay, keep them coming!
Erik Koux built it
So fantastic to watch this drive and all the info Jay always gives..
Love the fact you drive these cars. Amazing as always thank you Jay.
Leno`s enthusiasm makes me smile.
Thanks Jay
I always enjoy the videos and they are always informative.
YES! Agree completely; flowing sculpture in motion!
I always see this car sitting in the corner of the garage. Stunning. Absolutely beautiful. Right hand drive. Gorgeous color. Any Bugatti is cool to me.🔥🔥❤️🤑😎🏁
Thanks for the vid Jay Leno!! Thoroughly enjoyed it, and what a gorgeous car!
Thank you, Mr. Leno for another awesome car review. I’ve always admired the Bugatti sitting in the back of your garage and wondering when you were going to display it on the show again. Thank you for that🙏🏽
What a blessing, not in saving history, but sharing it so freely. Keep giving your best Mr Leno, you are a wonderful example.
I love casual car talk from Jay while taking a break from work. Love you, Jay ❤ best friend I've never met.
wonderful episode. Great to finally see more of Jay's cars again
They got sold for retirement money.
@@CoreyGolphenee No. He was plenty wealthy when I last saw him in the 1990s. Very smart with money. Good Luck, Rick
Wow, what a gorgeous car. I love it when you do videos on these older works or rolling art.
Finally an episode on this gorgeous car! Thank you Jay! So nice to hear you drive it a lot!
Many light piston - engined aircraft still use the same type of primer. Amazing car and great video! Thank you Jay!
Thanks Jay. I like your show best of all when there is a history lesson for you to give us,and when there is no guest to chit chat with, which always seems to distract from getting close and intimate with the car. Great car and great informative video!
Such a beautiful, classic, STYLISH design of the body and interior! Thank you for sharing with the rest of us! Great presentation, Mr. Leno. ❤
I agree Jay. I saw one in Paris , Ralph Laurens's Black version in the Louvre show when I lived there. Well driven by the original owner!
I have to say I love your blue more ! For me its the roof line and riveted fin !
One of my ABSOLUTE dream cars! Thank you for driving it!
Other than old buildings which aren’t dynamic, classic cars are one of the few connections we have with the past. What a wonderful ride!
The bible is quite a connection to the passed. Read it and youll notice no one was on their phones.
Spectacular.I love the fact that Jay drives his cars and aren't just showroom Queens, irregardless of the value.I applaud him
I want to see Jay drive 1937 Cadillac V16 and a 1935 Cadillac 355 V8 and a 1937 Cadillac V12, and tell us which is best.
why? are you in the market for one?
Watched a video from 9 years ago. Clicked on his channel and its awesome to see hes still pumpin out content. Dudes a REAL enthusiast.
I woke up in a new Bugatti.
I woke up in a old bugatti
Ever since I saw this in the background of Jay's videos. I've always wanted to see it reviewed. Thanks Jay.
Without a doubt one of the greatest cars ever made. I feel so lucky to have been able to work on prewar Bugattis even if I've never seen a Type 57
i woke up in a old bugatti
Finally, a title that isn't clickbait! That thing is a work of art, and the more you look at it, the more you appreciate the design of it. The sounds of the gears in the timing system are just wonderful!

I’ve been waiting for this years and since I think Friday when RUclips told me about the premier, disappointed I couldn’t watch when it first got uploaded. I think Jay should feature every single Bugatti he owns and Duesenberg he owns
