For what it was and all this problems the studio gave them and budget issues I enjoyed it in context. The actors jumped at the chance to be part of this movie, but the director and budget they were promised didn't happen. None of them probably could afford to just break their contracts & walk away. Doing their best, enjoying the ride, getting legend Chow Yun-Fat as Roshi & Randall Duk Kim as Gohan? Don't fault them for finishing what they were hired to do. If you really had to quickly summarize DB/DBZ so much would be left out & to get a layman to follow you would need to modernize (ex Goku meets ChiChi in high school). Ultimately it's only about Goku finding out he's an alien and battling 3-4 major villains, then introducing briefly ChiChi, Gohan, Piccolo to tie in Namekians/Dragonballs, briefly Bulma (lol), Vegeta, Frieza, Trunks, Cell. No matter how much I love android 18, you could leave the androids out of the core story.
And Mr. Marsters can redeem his Dragon Ball name with playing Zamasu in Super.

The script went through like 10 drafts until it became what it became.
