  • Part B of my double video, this 1 is preparing and smoking a cheap pork shoulder on the Pit boss champion barrel smoker. Part A we focused on a cheap brisket but what would the results be like for a cheap pork shoulder? In my opinion, they were brilliant. This smoker is full of space so if I’m heating up the whole thing for a long cook I may as well use all my space. The colour and flavour was outstanding, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
We also wanted to show how cheaper cuts of meat can still produce excellent results.

Great video. No one else has one of these pit boss barrels on RUclips! Do you know why? Do you recommend buying one??

Here in Australia it’s a cheaper barrel smoker compared to a bronco or gateway. The kamado range, pellet grills and offsets seem more popular to use over here. In the USA I believe this is not as cheap as what it is here, for me it costs $399 AUD, yet for Americans I can see on the pit boss site is $839 USD which is around $1,200 AUD. Thats a huge price difference and I’ve no idea why. A bronco here is 2-3 times more expensive than this pit boss barrel smoker, I therefore decided to save some money and take a gamble on it. It cooks well, I’ve had great smoke flavour and after some fixes to seals etc it seems to be smoking very well so I’m happy with the purchase. Pending your location there could be better options but I’m a big fan of the door to re-fuel or add more wood.

Thank you for the reply. I live in Sydney am dumb founded to the price. It just seems too cheap. It’s as though Bunnings has forgotten to put a “1” at the front of the price! No way would I buy it for $1399, but $399 seems like a steal. I have a DIY UDS which smokes great but is a royal PIA to clean because of lack of access to the bottom. I can’t see myself bending over getting covered in bbq creosote trying to clean it when I’m getting older. I love the Pit Boss liner at the very bottom

@@InterTay I don’t understand why there’s such a gap between USA and Aus, for $399 it’s a great backyard barrel smoker. The modifications I made are certainly worth while, I think materials cost me around $50. I’m cooking beef cheeks on it right now and temperature is holding beautifully. I do suggest using the bottom shelf for a water pan, it helps with moisture and to regulate that temperature. It’s a great size smoker, I do not regret buying it at all.

Thanks for the watch and comment Shaun. Definitely the best “cheap” pork I’ve smoked.

perfect time to put the meat. Dirty smoke in the beginning is a good thing.
