@@audionmusic2787 Good point. However, I feel like Selling's mix better suited the album than if Alan Parsons worked on it. It sort of has an English countryside vibe that adds to its overall themes. Dark Side has an amazing mix, but it doesn't really convey that it's being told by an old man like it's supposed to because it sounds so fresh still. At least, that's how I think of it. Both are stellar albums start to finish, but Selling edges Dark Side out by a hair for me.

People have to remember, Floyd has definitely got some prog aspects to them, but not really a prog band in the sense of Crimson , Yes, Genesis, or ELP. I consider Floyd less prog and more difficult to put in a box. They seem to play a little bit of everything over the years. I’d call Rush more Heavy Prog if there’s such a thing, but I never really seen them as a prog band, although they have great chops but less musicality than Yes or ELP or Genesis. It would be pretty difficult for me to argue that Selling England is a better album than Dark Side, however, I think the case can be made that Selling England is certainly more Prog than Dark Side. 1967 was obvious
We're Only in It for the Money and Shine On Brightly are strong contenders for 1968
    1969 is obvious
As good as Gentle Giant's first record was, I think 1970 goes to Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Trespass from Genesis is also great.
Good choice for 1971 altho Fragile and Nursery Cryme could replace it imo.
1972 is incredibly hard to say but CTTE is a safe bet (that said, Thick as a Brick and Foxtrot)
I know some people would day DSOTM for 1973, I mean it just has to be right?
As far as impact and sound exploration goes, definitely. But Selling England's compositions are untouchable.
1974 is pretty obvious (The Lamb and Relayer are excellent though)
    1975 is obvious
1976 is good but Moonmadness, A Trick of the Tail and 2113 are close
    1977 goes to Animals
1978 is a rly good pick but it could be Hemispheres

Dave, I also missed Eloy along the way and only discovered them a couple of years ago. Best place to start with them is Ocean and then Silent Cries & Mighty Echoes. Don't miss what I think is their best early album called Floating. It has a trippy psychedelic feel that reminds me of Hendrix Electric Ladyland. I'm an '80s boy so I don't dislike synths. If you're willing to try '80s prog, Eloy's Performance album is sneaky good. A Broken Frame is a killer track on it. Happy listening!!!

1972 - Great choice! Less obvious but not worse are GG "Octopus", Frank Zappa and Mothers "The Grand Wazoo".
1973 - I love that Genesis album, but it is not the best. Better are Pink Floyd's "DSoTM", Magma "MDK", Gong's "Flying Teapot" and "Angel's Egg" or GG's "In a Glass House".

1975 - Henry Cow "In praise of Learning"
