Another fine list, but of course there were more great albums like "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" (The Moody Blues), "Salisbury" (Uriah Heep), "Spring" (Spring), "Flowers of Evil" and "Nantucket Sleighride" (Mountain), "Nursery Cryme" (Genesis), "Trafalgar" (Bee Gees), "Uphill All the Way" (Unicorn), "Pilgrimage" (Wishbone Ash), "Santana 3" (Santana), "A Space in Time" (Ten Years After).

Well, Pet Sounds is a critic's darling, but it's as flawed an album as any of the Beach Boys' efforts. Sgt Pepper's is another CD, and the Velvet Underground "Banana" LP was mostly unlistenable. Disraeli Gears is the best Cream album, but that doesn't go very far. I hardly listen to it, today. Ogden's was a CD, Wheels of Fire a disappointment spread over two LPs instead of one, and Blue Cheer completely forgettable (and I'm a Leigh Stevens fan!) Led Zep II is vastly overrated, King Crimson about half-interesting, half-boring, and Space Oddity an oddity with one interesting song (unfortunately, not unusual in the 'Sixties). Deep Purple is the next-to-least interesting of the bands first four LPs, The Book of Taliesyn a better LP. Green River was a collection of Top 40 singles, with five songs that weren't up to snuff. Bayou Country was a far better album, every track worth the listening time. Willie and the Poor Boys is a poor second to it. I bought these, and more, as they were released. You missed some greats, #2, #4, #6, #7, #8, #9, #12, #13, #14, #15 (a sleeper, Van Morrison's first outing), #16, #18, #19, #2O, and a few I didn't include on this list: the first Moby Grape LP, Mr Tambourine Man, and The Notorious Byrd Brothers, the Byrds, Love's 1st album, the Doors' The Soft Parade, the Moody Blues' In Search of the Lost Chord, On the Threshold of a Dream, To Our Children's Children's Children, The Kinks' Face to Face, the Rolling Stones' Between the Buttons, Traffic's Heaven Is in Your Mind, and Dylan's Freewheelin', The Times They Are A-Changin', Another Side of, Bringing It All Back Home, Blonde on Blonde, John Wesley Harding, and Nashville Skyline. Mostly the usual suspects. "All Things Must Pass" is a triple album, by the way, and "Eat a Peach" is half live. I'd like to add "Odessa" (Bee Gees), "Focus 3" (Focus), "Tales From Topographic Oceans" (Yes), "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" (Frankie Goes to Hollywood).

The best album of 1974 (prog rock) is definitively Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt (but not accessible for eveyone)
