Which one you get the bamboo or carbon? I'm really looking at which one to get but I love the look of the GTX. The issues just scare me, have you seen any with your GTR? Which one would you get it you could go back? Love the bamboo flexibility but the look to the other better, that's why I loved the GTX and the gold, dope.

I bought a GTX in March '18 and had similar connection problems (at least once a week I had to re-pair and recalibrate the remote). Evolve released a software update to the R2, but required the remote be sent to them in California to install. I mailed my remote to them and two weeks later I had a remote with the software update and an upgraded battery (before sending the remote to them the board could outlast the remote in battery life). Since the R2 update I haven't had any issues. I'm surprised they had you send both the board and remote since shipping on the remote only cost me $15. But, I bought mine a couple months after you, so maybe hardware on the GTX was updated between January and March? Regardless, you shouldn't have had to pay $180 shipping it to them. It's painful enough shelling out $1,800 on a board in the first place. Premium price should include a premium warranty that covers shipping in my opinion. Glad you have your board back and get to enjoy it though. Thanks for the update video!

Oh man I am incredibly jealous of how good the quality of the roads are where you live. Had my board 2 months now and so far so good. Mine simply wouldn’t be usable without the off road wheels

I purchased the Bamoo GTX for my son with the R1 Remote. I'm more of a OneWheel kinda guy. Anyhow, the first day he started riding the board, the wheels locked up and threw him off the board. He's has road rash from head to toe. I though maybe he had just let go of the trigger and it over rebounded, causing it to hard brake. I retrained him on the remote and told him not to release the trigger, but to move into neutral if he wanted to coast. We cleaned him up and got back on the board. about 15 minutes into the ride, the board did the same thing. This time, he was more seriously injured. At least a severely sprained wrist, but possibly broken (he had wrist guards). Anyhow, I was convinced that he was doing something to cause this, so I hopped on the board the next day and about 5 minutes into my ride, the board hard braked again and sent me onto the pavement. Now I've got the road rash to match his. There is something seriously wrong with the connection between the board and remote. But what is absolutely certain is that evolve seriously screwed up. After reading other horror stories, it is clear that this not a normal wear and tear issue. There is a manufacturers defect and it seems like Evolve is basically ignoring it. But not for long. If you have been injured due to this sudden and unintended breaking problem, please contact me at smclapick at gmail dot com. I'm likely going to be getting my attorney involved. They can't put good intentioned users of their products in danger like this.

Hey Talon, my R2 remote failed in December 2018 after only about 12 days of use with my new GTX board. The failure caused a fall with fractures sustained which resulted in hospitalisation, crutches and restricted mobility issues for 2.5 months. In March this year I requested Evolve to replace both the GTX board and R2 remote because it was a major failure pursuant to the Australian Consumer Law which entitles me to a repair, replacement or a refund at the consumer’s option. Evolve claimed to have fixed the issue which was caused by the R2’s leaking battery. The repaired remote was tested and sent back with the GTX board instead of being replaced as requested.
Recently on 11 April I was on a short ride near home with the supposedly repaired board and remote. The R2 remote failed again which caused another injury that required surgery which was performed yesterday.
I will be commissioning an independent electrical engineer to investigate the cause of this latest R2 remote issue.
Have you heard of others experiencing R2 remote/GTX connectivity issues which have led to injuries?
    Regards - Angelos

@@Whitsunday1020 I regrettably bought a 2nd hand GTX with R1 remote just over a month ago. Had been riding a gen 2 Bamboo (also 2nd hand) with no issues for 18 months, and not a single accident, but wanted more power for hills. Had no idea about the potential issues before buying. Had about 2 short rides without issue. 3rd ride was coming down a hill at around 35km/h and thought I'd feather the brake just a little. Board literally bucked me off. With no protective gear, I was incredibly lucky to be on an empty road and escape with only deep grazes from hand to ankle and scratched headphones. Miracle my head didn't even touch the ground. Like most stories I've read, I thought it was my mistake somehow. Now that I know different, I'm noticing a tonne of issues that are all potentially deadly. I live 10min from the Evolve head office in Varsity Lakes, so will be going in to discuss sometime soon. Sure, it's out of warranty and I bought it 2nd hand, but if you by a 2nd hand car and there's a manufacturer fault, you're still eligible if there's a recall. I could sell it to another unsuspecting guy, but I reckon it would kill someone,so how could I? My wife's cousin is an engineer and was going to get him to investigate also. Keen to hear what you have so far.

Got my GTX about 2 weeks ago. Up to this point I have had zero electrical issues. It rides great. However it did arrive with a few small chunks missing from the edges of the wheels and the grip tape was horribly crooked/off center. They gave me a $50 gift card for the inconvenience, but the grip tape is hard not to notice. I’m with you, $50 won’t go very far at all with them. I’ve seen quite a few more online with similar grip tape issues. I know I am being picky, but for a $1700 skateboard, it should arrive perfect. I’m still on the fence about it being worth it.

Oooo bro.. 1800$ and let's say you were out of warranty around an extra 700 to fix it. 2400$ in less than six months. For a premium device. I am glad you were under warranty. For such a premium device I would not expect this issues. Please keep us updated on the board as I am thinking of getting one :)

I bought a GTX AT in May. I put about 100 miles on it and had a blast. It was great until it wasn’t!
I am still recovering from my injuries two months later.
I suggest you do a little research by reading a few skateboard forums and RUclips to see what is really happening with Evolve, cheep battery’s , battery sag and major disconnects to name a few.
There is no way I would ever step on one of their boards even if the battery was removed!
Imagine when you took it to 26 mph and you had a disconnect and the brakes locked up, you would hit the asphalt so fast you wouldn’t know what happened. Or the board has a rapid acceleration it would throw you off. Of course all electric skate boards have their share of problems and this is no doubt an inherent unsafe sport, but that’s where the adrenaline rush comes in.
There have been quite a few people that have died in just the last 6 months from eskate accidents. Read the electric skate forums, not the Evolve forum like I did.
My whole life has been consumed by extreme sports, motocross, enduro racing, mountain biking just to name a few. This is just another one before I check out and am too old to do it. I’m probably twice your age.
I’m currently waiting on a custom board being made by Psycotiller in California. All you have tested in the past months are manufactured boards. Try a custom board by Psycotiller, Ernesto Clark(nyckaly) or Long Haired Boy in Florida. Once you have seen one of these boards and ridden one, you will never look back.
I will have to say Evolves customer service was pretty good to me. They paid for my shipping back and refunded me in full. If you had the original box it would have saved you a bunch of money in shipping. Probably around $60-$80 or so for ground.
Hope the refurbished board works out for you. Please don’t get hurt. I have done many sports without protection, this one included. However, now I won’t ride without at least a helmet and wrist protection.
Why did you leave Miami/South Beach? It’s a paradise there. Of course you might have to learn a new language. Lol!
I have been to Vegas probably 50 times, seems every time gets better. I’m not sure about moving though.
Today sir is Monday gun day at the range for me. Enjoy your Chanel, keep up the good work!

David Johnson I have an evolve one board with the R2 remote and it cuts out at least 2-3 times a ride... On the 3rd ride I hade to get a replacement motor which is going good so far, I’ve done about 80-100km with the new motor and no problems yet. Customer service was great though but I guess high end boards shouldn’t have simple issues like this. I still love the board and prefer riding it over any of my other. Boards because I love the remote and I prefer the out runner belt motors. I have a Chinese board too and I’ve never had a problem with it, no connection issues or anything and I paid about $700aud, it’s not as fun to ride and it’s dual hub motor but it’s so reliable.

I see a lot of issues on eskate right now and i am glad that i’m out of it and change to electric unicycle. It seems dangerous at 1st but once you get it, you have more control than an eskate. Never had issues(knock on wood) and never had to look at motor or bearings to maintain it like eskates.

I bought my Bamboo GTX in June 2018 and it's been great, long distance, high top speed, good breaks, only a few bad things, one of the wheels cracked during the first ride, I emailed Evolve and they immediately responded and sent me one free wheel lol. I quickly learned that the wheels will chip due to wear and tear but I'm very impressed that they sent me a wheel ( it shows that they care). Another problem was that within 3 weeks of owning it, one day my R2 control wouldn't respond to the acceleration trigger, and so I looked up a video on Evolves youtube on how to reset the trigger and it solved my issue. Other than that I've been enjoying the fucking shit out of this fucking electric skateboard!

Good to hear it got resolved. Got a new one in South Florida without the issues. I tore up the street wheels kinda quick so I switched to AT wheels. The remote issue I have is that when I shut off the deadman switch, the remote won't switch modes. Not really a big deal, but annoying. Other than that, it seems evolve has remedied the motor issues people have been having.

I got an Evolve Bamboo GT around Dec. 2016. When I got an email saying what day/time the R2 remote was going to be back in stock, I set an alarm for a few minutes before that, and bought one as soon as the page updated to "in-stock." There's been a couple times where I've pressed the trigger and nothing happened, but that could just be me still not entirely used to the dead-man switch. On my latest group ride, I ran into the pairing issue where it takes a minute for the two to find each other. After seeing this, I'm now wondering if my remote is about to crap out. I guess I better start keeping the original remote with me, just in case.
...and of course, like everyone else, battery sag...

  • @JoeRock1Take
    @JoeRock1Take 6 лет назад +2

I think it's fair to say that most people who own an electric skateboard at that price, only own one. So they can't just use another board that's lying around while their pride & joy is in for repair. This is not to diss you Talon, but rather to point out that if your average Evolve customer had the exact same issues that this board did, it would be a much more devastating experience for them.
Of late I'm hearing more and more bad experiences with Evolve hardware than good ones. I really hope Evolve level up on their customer service and manufacturing.

I did had an issue with the R1. I bought my bamboo gtx all terrain sometime in early 2018 and the have a recall couple of months after that. Evolve pick up the shipping however. When it came back, its an all new board with different serial number and now with R2 remote but it wasnt paired at the factory. Had they included a "how to pair" or "reset" instruction things wouldve been ok, but they didnt. They just have a video on youtube with a guy on very strong australian accent that makes it difficult to understand vs a printed instruction.

They should have had paid for shipping if it was under warranty. My new Carbon GT arrived broken and I had to ship it back for repair (Motor Controller). Evolve USA response time was 1 email per day unless you call them to expedite the response. Funny, how Evolve Australia responded so much quicker and on the weekend. The repair, however, was very fast and they shipped the board on the same day (2 weeks total). They used a generic box as supposed to the original black Evolve box I used to send it back which was a bummer. The board itself is amazing and very fast. I hope Evolve would invest a little more towards customer service and opens a service center somewhere in the east coast in the future.

i baught mine from evolve germany in january, but i dont think the date matters. the R2 re-pairing issue seems pretty widespread, i have it too. lets see if the R2 update fixes it for me...
so far i've had to replace the BMS, the motor driver+controller electronics and the haptic motor in the remote. thankfully the evolve germany support was superb, they handled all of it unter warranty with no questions asked and they even sent the parts to me, so i could do the repairs myself (electronics engineer speaking :) ), which saved me tons of no-ride time.
to sum up: board is super fun, better perf than boosted. support is also top notch. but the thing just has soooo many issues, i have only listed the stuff that got fixed above, not those that still persist... it is way too expensive for that.
i would still buy it again, but just because there isnt a better alternative.

I bought a CGT in January 2018 and have had a couple of minor problems. The first was the the Charging dock on the remote came loose and had to be resoldered. Not long after purchase I found the remote would disconnect and took up to two minutes of turning off / on to reconnect. I now have the remote suck in safe mode and waiting on a fix from Evolve before having to send off board / remote for repair.
Don't get me wrong as I am more than happy with the board and previous customer service but staring to get annoyed with the problems after spending $1700 AUD on what is advertised as a premium product.

I have two R2 remotes and neither is working. Evolve USA says it’s best for a technician to look at it. Of course, they want more money. I’ve spent $2800 and I guess that’s not good enough. Meanwhile I have a $2000 electric skateboard that doesn’t function. The remotes are brand new. This is an evolve issue with their remote. Why should I sink more money into the board and remotes!? The board has been sitting for a year with less than 50 miles riding since I purchased it.

I've had a Carbon GT for over two years. I broke the original remote in a fall and got the R2. It stopped holding a charge after a few months. I ended up fixing the old remote, even though the acceleration is super janky and it stops on a dime if you're not careful. Too scared to buy another R2 remote for $100 just to have it not hold charge again. It's been perfect otherwise. Oh, I disabled the dead-man switch, sometimes it just wouldn't work.

Aside from straightening your motor mount out, what was "fixed" was probably the recalibration of the remote and the firmware update.
It's hard to say if that was worth it or not but with the new wheels it seems like it probably was.
I had very similar issues to what you had with your remote. I didn't have the loss of calibration issue, but even that is difficult to say since it still may be lurking in the background.
I have a backup remote (one of the previous version LCD remotes) so I perhaps had more to work with as far as diagnostic.
I'll be watching for future update videos as I'm curious to see if this problem crops up again.
Feel free to have a look at my review/test video of this remote.

I got my GTX board end of April. I had issues with the orig lcd remote also "reconnecting" and dropping to safe mode. I emailed CS and they said turn on board in neutral state and then remote in neutral state. I saw less of the issue. I then received the new R2 remote. That had same issue with dropping to safe mode and battery did not last as long as board. I emailed CS who were great and they sent me another R2 remote to swap. My 2nd R2 had same issue as Talon were I get no response from trigger. I did the recalibration last week but had to do it a couple times also. Since then so far have not had that issue come back. I still get the drop to safe mode issue a couple times with the 2nd R2 remote. I will see how it goes as I ride more and hopefully it does not keep recurring.

Nice review, hope you have NO issue with your skateboard and the remote, I have a question, what is your idea about skateboards with Hub motor? just like Raptor 2, or Stary? The Stary has equipped with Planetary Gear system, I have seen different videos here about comparing Hub Motor vs Belt Motor, but I am really not sure which one is good to have for all train, I saw a Boosted Board in Down Town LA running a crazy hill (S Grand ave between 5th and 4th streets) very easily and smoothly, so I am wondering if the board with Hub motor also able to run that way.

For a very long time. I have been considering to buy an Evolve gtx bamboo 2 in 1 because of the range and capabilities. I sold my Boosted V2+ because I only got 4, sometimes 5 miles. And, even with the extended range, 12 miles didn't seem much to me. I had never had an issue with the Boosted board or remote connection. Thank you for your video review. The killer for me with Evolve is always reading/hearing about connection issues between their boards and remotes. I will not buy an Evolve board until the company fix this problem. I guess then my next purchase will be a OWxr or an electric unicycle for riding on/off road and distance.

Purchased GTX board, charged it twice than decided to check the battery after like two days of riding. The the remote showed that the board battery was charged 10 times. Now i am wondering if Evolve sold me a used board (The box it came in was pretty beat-up) in addition, the front truck was bent and i could not take off one of the bearings. I did have an issue with the remote where it would stop working on occasion but after contacting Evolve and calibrating the remote the issue is gone (great customer service I emailed to them at 11pm they got back to me at 11:30pm same day).

Mine will be going along fine, then suddenly feels like the brakes kick on for a split second , sending me flying, , it has happened twice, second time I was wrapped in tons of pads and taking it slow sort of testing it out, and it happened in 15 minutes of riding, first time I was not so lucky ( i was wearing a helmet) I was going full throttle (at tires) and felt like brakes kicked on for a split second and sent me flying onto asphalt , I got insane road rash and wrist sprain , wasn't back to normal for about a month and a half, the only thing that didn't hit the road was my helmeted head. I've talked to several people online who seem to be having the same issue, Im baffled/scared to ride it again 😢 any thoughts or advice?? The accident happened the night before I opened own business ( had to work it all bandaged up and only using one arm for a month), with my business opening I decided it was not worth my time and decided not to pursue lawsuit.
