  • So many gadgets and appliances these days do NOT have a real power switch.
The "power" switch simply puts the device into a "sleep" or low power state - but it's still drawing current from the batteries, and slowly draining them.
Very annoying when you go to use something, and the batteries are dead already :-(
    Fit a real power switch!
This principles in this video can be applied to many items.
Note: I cannot possibly give any advice on your own device - this is up to you.

More annoying than the expense is discovering the device won't work when you need it at 2am and the shops selling batteries are closed. 😡

I would put down as the off position so if something fell on it, more likely it would switch off than on

If you dont use the gear often.. here is a better idea.. take the batteries out, this saves the battery and they wont leak and kill your equipment.

TBH, the leaking of the corrosive components inside the battery is probably a better reason to remove the batteries. Personally, I think most items should just have a real power button. Things like computers not having one does make sense as a real power button means that the you can't have wake-on-lan without another powered device to give it power.
