Variation was used to intro the TV broadcasts and Kiner's Korner. Can't you just hear: "Good afternoon from Shea Stadium, today's game against Cincinnati is brought to you by Rheingold Beer - "My beer is Rheingold the dry beer" and your New York, New Jersey and Fairfield County Chrysler Plymouth dealers - "Chrysler Plymouth Coming through" I'm Lindsey Nelson along with Bob Murphy and Ralph Kiner. It's a beautiful day here at Shea...."
Love hearing this. Takes me back to '79... Mazz, Youngblood, Swannie, Frank Tavares, John Stearns and a couple of rookie pitchers: Neil Allen and Jesse Orosco.
I remember this song all too well. I associate it with the Dark Ages of the NYM. I recall an Easter Sunday Doubke Header at Shea in 1974 when the Mets got swept by the Phillies. This song was playing with the closing credits as I sat there as a nine year old realizing it was going to be a long year.
Been looking for this for years ! I could hear it in my head from my childhood, especially the cheesy porn movie wah wah guitar. No one seemed to remember this when I'd talk about it. Thanks for proving I'm not totally nuts !
Thank you for checking it out! Yes the person who had created it transcaribed it from a vinyl album. I had been trying to get the name/creator of that album, but not yet. Check out the version with vocals as well, on my channel
You see, it’s not about being funky,
IT’S ABOUT THE METS BABY LOVE THE METS

I remember this around 1980 when we got WOR on cable in LA and we'd watch the Mets play the Dodgers.
Thanks Anthony, this sounds great. Brings back a lot of memories of watching the Mets on WOR-TV channel 9.

What about Wayne Twitchell?
Hearing this has inspired me to grow my hair like Jackson Todd :)

I hear you John! I had said the same thing to others, and they had never believed me. But here it is
and I love the drum solo, with the highhats
Whoa ... that bass lick at 0:53 ...
The whole thing is a great piece for brass.
Just screams ' 70's.
Steve Cohen needs to bring this version back!
The Mets did
I heard this version last night (early morning) on SNY when Gary Cohen was saying goodbye after the Mets 8-3 win against the D-Backs
They used on SNY/WPIX broadcast sometimes
This is the NY Mets TV theme I recall best.
As good as this is to hear, it was an era of mediocre teams or worse.
Actually debuted in '74.
Thank you wiedep, you are correct and change has been made!
We got this version tonight, LFGM!
wah-wah-wah-wah-wah...love the 70's!!!
Great news, SNY has been playing it after every Mets win
Yes! I noticed that last night early morning 8-3 win over the D-Backs
Was actually used through the 1980 season.
Music performed by Keith Textor and his Orchestra
This gave me goose bumps, and I find myself listening to it over and over. Thank you so much! The audio begins with a needle drop. Was this on an LP?

Fantastic. This is a treasure.
Brian, on a giveaway day at Shea Stadium they actually gave out copies of this 45 record that had this version and the vocal version.
I’m a Cubs fan, but I grew up at Shea.
RIP The Franchise
Long lost version from long losing seasons
Disco Mets !
OH SHIT DOESNT SNY USE THIS NOW?
true -- found it in a clip of yesterday's SNY clip of the NYM v Cleveland Indians game, at the very end
Well SNY found this today LOL, #LGM
Patrick Manion did they play this on the network today?
ajvent68 yeah they played after the bottom of the 9th, I recognized it by the Waka jos
Oh man I wish I had been watching. But had to work :-)
Ummm, yeah, the original version with the singing was much, much better.
Lol Mets
Version sucks!
