standing up for yourself isn't a terrible idea! just so long as you're doing it because the dm or another player is genuinely stepping over boundaries or ruling things in ways that directly disadvantage your character or your/other's ability to have fun. the dm's role is one where it's very easy to wield power over others, and I've seen games get ruined quickly because a player feels as though they're being trampled by the dm
